ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

0CTOBER 11TH,2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

I didn't find my friends, the good God gave them to me.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

TODAY’S ACTION

Go out of your way for someone, but do it quietly without the need for recognition.

TODAY’S QUOTE

The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be only the beginning.

Ivy Baker Priest

HAPPY WEDNESDAY

It’s ‘Over the Hump’ day already ! I love short work weeks .

My 3 day weekend must have worn me out, because I could hardly keep my eyes open at work yesterday. I hope today is better as it’s payroll day and I need to get a lot done .

I talked to DS#6 last night and he told me that he’ll have some of his artwork featured in a magazine come November/December. I think the name of it is Layers . Now I’ll be going out to the book store to see if I can find it.

I’m so proud of all my babes, I hope you’ll forgive me if I brag about them now and then.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…TAKE YOUR TEDDY BEAR TO WORK DAY

Today is the day you're supposed to take your Teddy Bear with you into the office.

So, go for it!

Oh... and, if you still have a job tomorrow, let us know!

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is You Go, Girl Day, celebrating Kathy Sullivan, the first American woman to walk in space.

Today is National Sausage Pizza Day

1958 - Spencer Tracy’s classic movie, The Old Man and the Sea was released. Based on Ernest Hemingway’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, it is the story of an aging fisherman attempting to find himself, and hopefully a fish, on a fishing trip near Cuba. Tracy was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance, but was edged out that year by David Niven (for Separate Tables)

1968 - The U.S. launched Apollo 7. Described by commander Walter M. Schirra, Jr. as a “magnificent flying machine,” Apollo 7 travelled some 4.5 million miles in orbit around the Earth to become the first manned flight in NASA’s lunar-landing program. The mission also featured the first live TV transmission from a spacecraft in orbit.

1983: The last hand-cranked telephone system in the U. S. went out of service as 440 telephone customers in Bryant Pond, Maine, were switched over to direct-dial service.

TODAY’S SMILE

An old poem describes a woman walking through a meadow, meditating on nature. While strolling about, she came upon a field of golden pumpkins. In the corner of the field stood a majestic, huge oak tree.

She sat under the oak tree musing on the strange twists in nature which put tiny acorns on huge branches and huge pumpkins on tiny vines.

She thought to herself, "God blundered with Creation! He should have put the small acorns on the tiny vines and the large pumpkins on the huge branches."

Nodding off, the woman stretched out under the oak tree for a nap. A few minutes after falling asleep she was awakened by a tiny acorn bouncing off her nose.

Chuckling to herself, she rubbed her nose and thought, "Maybe God was right after all!"

TODAY’S WORD

recusant \REK-yuh-zunt\adjective :

refusing to submit to authority

In 1534, Henry VIII of England declared himself the head of the Church of England, separating it from the Roman Catholic Church, and the resultant furor led to increased attention focused on people's religious observances. A "recusant" was someone who (from about 1570-1791) refused to attend services of the Church of England, and therefore violated the laws of mandatory church attendance, but by the century's end, both the adjective and the noun were also being used generally to suggest resistance to authority of any form.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness.

Romans 8:26

What a sentence worthy of a highlighter. Who does not need this reminder? Weak bodies. Weak wills. Weakened resolves. We’ve known them all. Whether we are feeble of soul or body or both, how good to know it’s not up to us. The Spirit himself is pleading for us.
