TODAY IS... CHOCOLATE COVERED RAISIN DAY

It greatly reduces "chocolate guilt" if you hide some fruit inside, so this must be the reason they invented chocolate covered raisins. Now... if we can just figure out why they came up with chocolate covered ants! Maybe to add protein ??

CHOCOLATE RAISIN BARS

2 cups vanilla wafer crumbs

1/2 cup cocoa

3 tablespoons sugar

2/3 cup cold butter, cut into pieces

1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

1 cup peanut butter chips

1-1/3 cups raisins

1 cup chopped walnuts 1.

Heat oven to 350°F. 2. In a medium bowl, stir together the crumbs, cocoa and sugar. Cut in the butter until crumbly. 3. Press mixture evenly on the bottom and 1/2-inch up the sides of 13x9x2-inch baking pan. 4. Pour the condensed milk over the crumb mixture and sprinkle on the peanut butter chips and raisins. Sprinkle nuts over the top and press down firmly. 5. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Cover with foil and let stand several hours before cutting into bars.

TODAY'S REFLECTION

All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; -- that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saving: I will open My mouth in parables…

Matthew 13:34-35

As the prophet said, Jesus taught by telling stories. This is a wonderful way to teach, for we all love to hear a good story. Many a child looks forward to his or her parent reading a bedtime story before saying good night. The more we study Jesus' parables, the greater understanding we’ll have of their meaning in our lives

HAPPY FRIDAY!

This is a sad report to give you all – we got the results back from my mom’s biopsy yesterday and she’ll be having hospice care for now. She has very advanced pancreatic cancer and at the most 2 months they think. Of course we all know there is no second guessing when it comes to our time to go. Only the good Lord knows that one for sure. We just hope to make her as comfortable as she can possibly be.

If you can say a little prayer for her, my dad and my sisters, I’d appreciate it. It will be a difficult time for all. If my e-mails get sporadic you’ll know why. I will try to post every day as it is a great stress reliever for me. When I’m looking up trivia, or a good quote it takes my mind off other things.

Remember to make every day count, it is truly a gift and sooooo precious.

Take good care !

Houdini is the most famous magician in history. He was born Erik Weisz on March 24, 1874, in Budapest, Hungary - and 4 years old when his family emigrated to America. His worldwide fame came from making amazing escapes. Early routines included getting out of straitjackets and handcuffs. He eventually performed an act where he was shackled with irons, placed in a box that was locked, roped, and weighted - and then submerged under water.

TODAY'S QUOTE

All Fords are exactly alike, but no two men are just alike. Every new life is a new thing under the sun; there has never been anything just like it before, never will be again. A young man ought to get that idea about himself; he should look for the single spark of individuality that makes him different from other folks, and develop that for all he is worth. Society and schools may try to iron it out of him; their tendency is to put it all in the same mold, but I say don't let that spark be lost; it is your only real claim to importance.

HAPPY THURSDAY!

We saw a few flakes falling yesterday and the windchill has been in the low teens. I do dress in layers and most of them are on during the day at work and at home, but when I go to my folks house, it’s just like being in the tropics and off come the layers. They keep it nice and warm so they don’t catch a chill.

I’ll be so thankful when warmer weather comes and we can even open a window or two and let some fresh air in.

Off to work as usual this morning. Only today and Friday left of this work week. I’ll be spending Friday night and all day Saturday at the folks house. We are starting to develop a routine here.

TODAY IS...NICE FRAGRANCE DAY!

The word "perfume" comes from the Latin words per fume meaning "through smoke". This reflects the oldest tradition of burning incense and herbs during religious offering. Wearing perfume didn't hit it big until the 17th century when perfumed gloves became the rage in France. Over the Hump Day ! For the past 2 days I’ve had the office to myself. Today my boss should be in and it’s payroll day. Maybe I’ll actually get to work only an 8 hour day. I shouldn’t complain because the extra hours mean more in the paycheck.

They said my mom made it through the biopsy procedure just fine. She has been sleeping a lot the past few days and is very weak. I was out there after work and she wasn’t awake very long at all. We won’t find out the results for a day or two. I’m so very thankful for my sister caring for both my mom and dad – she’s so very appreciated.

TODAY IS...ROLLER COASTER DAY

In 1884, LaMarcus A. Thompson built a ride at New York's Coney Island to bring people out of the local beer gardens. The tracks carried individual cars that climbed 15 feet in the air and zoomed along at 4 miles per hour. People swarmed to Coney Island to try this novelty for a nickel a ride. Today, the fastest roller coaster is the Alpengeist at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA. It goes 67 mph - and it probably costs more than a nickel.

Philosophy of Life

Life is an endless struggle, full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.

The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

Time may be a great healer but it's also a lousy beautician.

Brain cells come and go but fat cells live forever.

Life not only begins at forty, it begins to show. You don't stop laughing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop laughing.

It is bad to suppress laughter; it goes back down and spreads to your hips.

Age is important only if you're cheese and wine.

The only time a woman wishes that she were a year older is when she is expecting a baby.

Inside some of us is a thin person struggling to get out, but he/she can usually be sedated with a few pieces of chocolate cake.

With expectation and anticipation written all over his face, the clerk quickly measured out and wrapped the cloth, then teasingly held it out.

The girl snapped up the package and pointed to a little old lady standing beside her. "Grandma is paying for it," she smiled

If we want blessings from God, nothing can fetch them down but faith. Prayer cannot draw down answers, from God's throne except it be the earnest prayer of the man who believes. Faith is the angelic messenger between the soul and the Lord Jesus in glory

TODAY IS...I CAN CROCHET DAY

The origin of crochet is up for grabs. China? Turkey? North Africa? The word "crochet" comes from the French work croc (meaning hook), but there is no record of this needlework before the 1800s. Written instructions were being published in the 1840s, but most patterns were handed down through family and friends. Girls were taught to crochet holding the hook like a pencil because it was considered graceful. They know today that holding the hook in the palm of your hand cuts down on carpal tunnel problems.

Later that day, a police officer came in and got his hair cut. He then asked how much it was. The barber said, "No charge. I consider it a service to the community."

The next morning, he came to work and there were a dozen donuts and a thank you note from the police officer.

Then, a Senator came in and got a haircut. When he was done he asked how much it was. The barber said, "No charge. I consider it a service to the country."

"I agree with you," said the other. I've always noticed that if someone has one short leg, the other one is always just that little bit longer.

Psalm 63: 1- 2

In this song of David, we see that he seeks God early in the morning. When David first opens his physical eyes, he also seeks God as he opens his spiritual eyes. David sets the tone of the day by starting his day seeking God. David understands that nothing in the physical world on earth can satisfy his immortal soul. We will find our happiness in the Lord. HAPPY THURSDAY!

We had a very cold windy day yesterday, but the sun was shinning most of the day ! That always makes me feel better, but the eyes say I still need more sleep. I haven’t caught up yet from last weekend.

Usually when mid-March comes I feel like I have more energy because the days are longer and it doesn’t get dark so early.

The wind blew off a few more shingles from my side of the roof and those were repaired yesterday. Pretty soon we should have a new roof!

Take good care all!

TODAY IS...THE IDES (middle) OF MARCH DAY

Are the Ides of March unlucky? Well, they were for Julius Ceasar when he got to the steps of the Senate. But... that's Shakespeare. The word "ides" simply means middle, so we can have the Ides of May, the Ides of July, or even the Ides of Chocolate Pudding. There's nothing unlucky about it - unless you're Ceasar. In that case, watch your back.
