ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

0CTOBER 16TH,2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

I try to avoid looking forward or backward,

and try to keep looking upward.

Charlotte Bronte

TODAY’S ACTION

Today heal wounds. Healing has a domino effect.

One man is lavish yet grows still richer; another is too sparing, yet is the poorer.

Proverbs 11:24

TODAY’S QUOTE

It is hard to let old beliefs go. They are familiar. We are comfortable with them and have spent years building systems and developing habits that depend on them.

Like a man who has worn eyeglasses so long that he forgets he has them on, we forget that the world looks to us the way it does because we have become used to seeing it that way through a particular set of lenses.

Today, however, we need new lenses. And we need to throw the old ones away.

HAPPY MONDAY

BACK TO WORK I GO!

Sunday was sunny and much warmer, of course! I needed to stay inside and get some things done so I’d be ready again to face a new work week. If I don’t get a few things done, I feel bogged down all week long. It’s much better to be a little prepared. Things like washing clothes and cleaning the house just wait patiently til we get around to them, but eventually need to be done.

The week ahead does look like a pretty quiet one, except for Tuesday evening and that’s dulcimer night…always good for a laugh or two.

I did hear from DD about 6:30 yesterday evening and they were back in Ohio, but not yet home. They had a great trip, but it wasn't long enough ! They had a great time with the 'Sunshine' babes.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S SMILE

It's that time of year - time to take our annual senior citizen test.

Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important that we keep mentally alert. The saying; "If you don't use it, you will lose it" also applies to the brain.

Below is a very private way to gauge your loss or non-loss of intelligence. So, take the following test presented below and determine if you are "losing it" or if you're still "with it." The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until you have made your answer - no cheating.

(You may take the test, even if you’re not a senior citizen)

Okay, relax, clear your mind and . . . begin.

1. What do you put in a toaster?

Answer: "bread."

If you said "toast," then give up now and go do something else. Try not to hurt yourself. If you said, "bread," go to question number two (2).

2. Say "silk" five times. Now spell "silk." What do cows drink?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you said "milk," please do not attempt the next question. Your brain is obviously over stressed and may even overheat. It may be that you need to amuse yourself by reading something more appropriate, such as Children's World. If you said "water" then proceed to question number three (3).

3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said "green bricks," what are you still doing here reading these questions????? If you said "glass," then! go on to question number four (4).

4. It's twenty years ago, and a plane is flying at 10,000 feet over Germany (If you will recall, Germany at the time was politically divided into West Germany and East Germany.) Anyway, during the flight, TWO of the engines fail. The pilot, realizing that the last remaining engine is also failing, decides on a crash landing procedure. Unfortunately the engine fails before he has time and the plane fatally crashes smack in the middle of "no man's land" between East Germany and West Germany. Where would you bury the survivors? East Germany or West Germany or in "no man's land"?

Answer: You don't, of course, bury survivors. If you said ANYTHING else, you are a real dunce and you must NEVER try to rescue anyone from a plane crash. Your efforts would not be appreciated. If you said, "Don't bury the survivors", then proceed to the next question.

5. Without using a calculator - You are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales. In London, 17 people get on the bus. In Reading, six people get off the bus and nine people get on. In Swindon, two people get off and four get on. In Cardiff, 11 people get off and 16 people get on. In Swansea, three people get off and five people get on In Carmathen, six people get off and three get on. You then arrive at Milford Haven. What was the name of the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud! Don't you remember your own name? It was YOU!!!

TODAY’S WORD

ba·nal adjective

Drearily commonplace and often predictable; trite. Synonym trite.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

We also have joy with our troubles, because we know that these troubles produce patience. Romans 5:3

It's amazing how uptight and impatient I/we can become with the little annoyances of everyday life. Remember, though, that the things that bug us don't cause our impatience, they just trigger it! And that's what God wants to get us to face and fix.

He wants to fix us from the inside out so that we will learn both patience and every other grace. Keep in mind, though, if you don't want to experience trials and tribulation, don't ever pray for patience!

This is because we only learn patience by experiencing the things that upset and bug us. While learning to be patient with others, don't forget to learn to be patient with yourself.
