ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

0CTOBER 28TH,2006 T

ODAY'S THOUGHT

Do not wish to be anything but what you are, and try to be that perfectly.

St. Francis De Sales

TODAY’S ACTION

Cherish your purpose in life.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns whatwe have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Melody Beattie

HAPPY SATURDAY

It’s Flu Shot Day for me ! Hope you all are able to get one too. The flu season will soon be on us.

It rained yesterday and we’ll be getting more this weekend along with some high winds. The news said that they may be up to 50-60 mph winds. I haven’t got the courage to check my roof since the last wind storm. Hopefully all those shingles are still laying flat.

DD and her hubby are off to visit some of his relatives this weekend and as far as I know everyone else is staying at home…camping season is over.

I watched Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin last night - it was just as great as the first time I saw it many many years ago !

Take good care all !

Have a great day ! Another wonderful one on the Way!

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

TODAY IS..GHOST DAY

What is the most popular Halloween costume every year? A ghost, of course. And the most famous ghost is Casper. "Casper the Friendly Ghost" was created by Joe Oriolo and Sy Reit in the early 1940s. He went on to star in cartoons, comic books and tv shows. Worldwide, he is the most recognized character after Micky Mouse. And everyone knows the tune... Casper, the friendly ghost, The friendliest ghost you know!

TODAY’S SMILE

On Going to Church: (Author Unknown)

A Christian wrote a letter to the editor of the newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me I can't remember a single one of them. So I think I'm wasting my time . . . and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall what the menu was for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: they all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me those meals, I would be dead today."

No comments were made on the sermon contents anymore.

TODAY’S WORD

hobbit \HOB-it\ noun :

a member of a fictitious peaceful and genial race of small humanlike creatures that dwell underground

"What is a hobbit?" wrote J.R.R. Tolkien in the 1937 fantasy novel that introduced Mr. Bilbo Baggins. The author then answered himself: "They are (or were) little people, about half our height, and smaller than the bearded Dwarves. . . . There is little or no magic about them, except the ordinary everyday sort which helps them to disappear when large stupid folk like you and me come blundering along . . . ." Tolkien tells us that hobbits "are inclined to be fat," and that they "dress in bright colours"; they "have good-natured faces, and deep fruity laughs (especially after dinner)." Tolkien, a professional linguist who taught at Oxford, coined the word "hobbit" (and many other terms—in fact, a whole new language) for The Hobbit and for his enormously popular series The Lord of the Rings.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that…we might have hope.

Romans 15:4

Encourage those who are struggling. Don’t know what to say? Then open your Bible...

To the grief stricken: “God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’” (Heb. 13:5 NIV).

To the guilt ridden: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1 NIV).

To the jobless: “In all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Rom. 8:28 NIV).

To those who feel beyond God’s grace: “Whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NIV).

Your Bible is a basket of blessings. Won’t you share one?
