ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

February 29th, 2008

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Joy is prayer—Joy is strength—Joy is love—

Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls.

Mother Teresa

TODAY’S ACTION

Remember that remarkable achievements begin as thoughts

TODAY’S QUOTE

When you aim for perfection, you discover it's a moving target.

George Fisher

HAPPY FRIDAY !!

AND HAPPY LEAP DAY !

It’s the last day of February and then we’ll be celebrating the month of March. We’ll be finding out tomorrow if March will come in like a lamb or a lion. If it’s like a lamb the end of March will go out like a lion, If it’s a lion the end of March will go out like a lamb. That’s what they say anyway.

With March being such a changeable month, in which we can see warm spring-like temperatures or late-season snowstorms, you can understand how this saying might hold true in some instances. We can only hope that if March starts off cold and stormy it will end warm and sunny, but the key word is hope.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TO REMEMBER…

I am in the hands of God, and in God’s time all things will be made well.

TODAY IS…LEAP DAY

The length of an actual year is about 365.24219 days; most yearly calendars have just 365. Without leap days (such as February 29, 2008) added to the calendar every few years, the calendar would be off by 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds each year. A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, but century years are not leap years unless they are divisible by 400. Century leap years include 1600, 2000, and 2400. The longest time possible between leap years is eight years, such as will occur between 2096 and 2104

TODAY’S TRIVIA

46 B.C.: The Romans created the first Leap Year by adding a day to their calendar.

1288: A law in Scotland made it illegal for a man to refuse to marry a woman who proposed on Leap Year Day, the only day women could propose marriage.

TODAY’S SMILE

A Leap Year Ditty to Remember It By

Thirty days hath September, April, June and November;

All the rest have thirty-one

Save February, she alone

Hath eight days and a score

Til leap year gives her one day more

TODAY’S WORD

fallible \FAL-uh-bul\, adjective:

1. Liable to make a mistake.

2. Liable to be inaccurate or erroneous

Fallible derives from Medieval Latin fallibilis, from Latin fallere, "to deceive." It is related to fail, false (from falsum, the past participle of fallere), fallacy ("a false notion"), fault (from Old French falte, from fallere), and faucet (from Old Provençal falsar, "to falsify, to create a fault in, to bore through," from fallere

TODAY’S REFLECTION

There is no other commandment greater than these

Mark 12:31

The scribes were the learned interpreters of the Law of Moses. They expanded the Ten Commandments given to Moses into 613 greater and lesser rules and regulations. One scribe recognized Jesus' skill as a teacher, and asked him which one of the Mosaic Laws was the greatest. Jesus recognized the scribe's sincere search for truth.

Jesus summed up the entire Law with two basic decrees that he saw as inseparable. They were the laws upon which all the other commandments were based: to love God with one's entire being, and to love one's neighbor as oneself.

The scribe declared that the love of God and love of neighbor was worth more than any religious acts that one could perform. Because the scribe understood this principle, he moved a step closer to God's reign

TODAY'S THOUGHT

When I speak, I tell my audiences, "As you get out of bed each morning and stumble into the bathroom, jump-start each day with a positive attitude. Look in the mirror and say, 'Good Morning. I love you. We're going to have a great day!'

HAPPY THURSDAY !!

I’m hoping there are no more SNOW surprises this morning. Yesterday morning I was surprised to see there was more snow on the ground than there was the previous day. The shovel was called into action once more and I was saved great distress by the hum of my next door sister’s snow blower.

It was a cold one and will be again today. I think we may reach a high of 23 degrees. Brrrchilll ! After today it’ll be Friday which means I’ve made it through another work week and survived another day of winter, so I guess there is hope ! Spring will come !!!

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…BLUE JEANS DAY

Jeans was a blue twilled cotton cloth milled in Geneo, Italy. The French weavers called the town "Genes" - and that's how we got the word "jeans". Blue jeans were invented by Levi Strauss during the Gold Rush of the 1850s. Selling canvas to the miners, he started stitching it into pants. In the 1860s, he replaced the canvas with denim. Worn as work pants for years, they became fashionable in 1935 when a model wore then in Vogue magazine.

TODAY’S SMILE

The Child's Eye View of Religion . . . A little boy who prayed for a bicycle had an even more startling surprise instead-a baby sister. That night he had a talk with God about His delivery service. "I got a sister instead of a bike," he explained to God. "Maybe some other kid wanted a sister and got my bike. Is there any chance we can keep the girl and get me a bike, too?"

One of the most effective ways of sharing the feeling of God's daily presence with the family is to have the children ask the blessing for the evening meal. But, of course, many families don't have this custom, which accounts for the puzzlement of a little boy who went to dinner with his parents at the home of a very elderly gentleman. After watching the old man bow his head and speak in hushed tones, the boy asked his mother, "What did Mr. Bryan say to his plate?"

Three-year-old Laurie was delighted with the reception she got at church. She told her mother, "They sang a whole song just for me...'Laurie, Laurie Hallelujah'."

Instead of singing the Doxology phrase "Praise all creatures here below," a little girl sang instead, "Praise all preachers, here we go." It made sense to her because everybody sang it at the end of the service, just as they were leaving.

A tiny boy of four was warned by his slightly older sister that he wouldn't be allowed to talk in church. "They just won't let you say a word," she said. "Who won't?" the boy asked. "The hushers," she replied.

The small son of a football coach in Ft. Worth, Texas, was dragging his feet on Sunday morning because he didn't like Sunday school. Finally hismother said, "Hurry up," and he said, "Aw...let's wait and go at half time."

In Littleton, Colorado, a girl watching her mother shell hard boiled eggs said, "Jesus must like these a lot." "Why do you say that?" asked the mother, and the girl explained: "Last week in church we sang 'Hard Eggs, Take Them All To Jesus.' "

From: "Faith, Hope and Hilarity: The Child's Eye View of Religion." by Dick Van Dyke.

Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.

Robert Fulghum

TODAY’S WORD

temerarious \tem-uh-RAIR-ee-uhs\, adjective:

Recklessly or presumptuously daring; rash

Temerarious comes from Latin temerarius, "rash," from temere, rashly, heedlessly

TODAY’S REFLECTION

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

 Psalm 56:3

How did Jesus endure the terror of the crucifixion? He went first to the Father with his fears. He modeled the words of Psalm 56:3: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Do the same with yours. Don’t avoid life’s Gardens of Gethsemane. Enter them. Just don’t enter them alone. And while there, be honest. Pounding the ground is permitted. Tears are allowed. And if you sweat blood, you won’t be the first. Do what Jesus did; open your heart. And be specific. Jesus was. “Take this cup,” he prayed. Give God the number of the flight. Tell him the length of the speech.

Share the details of the job transfer. He hasplenty of time. He also has plenty of compassion. He doesn’t think your fears are foolish or silly. He won’t tell you to “buck up” or “get tough.” He’s been where you are. He knows how you feel. And he knows what you need.

TODAY’S ACTION

HAPPY WEDNESDAY !!

Over the Hump Day! Maybe we can get over the hump of this cold snowy weather too ! The roads were not as bad as expected yesterday morning, but overnight it got a lot colder and windy too. Blowing and drifting snow may be the problem today.

My next door sister had a snow day yesterday and thankfully had time to run the SNOW blower too. I came home to a clear driveway.

THANKS SIS!

I heard from DS#6 the night before last and he was asking about when our Family Easter celebration was going to be. It’ll be on the THE IDES OF MARCH, the 15th for us this year.

On Easter itself I’ll be visiting at DS#1’s house. DDIL#1 will be joining their church at the Easter Vigil Service and I wouldn’t miss that for sure. DDIL#6’s birthday is the 14th of March so we can celebrate her birthday then too !

DD and her hubby are hosting the family feast this year and we are hoping for good weather for an Easter egg hunt as they have a nice big back yard to do one in. It all depends on the weather of course.

March sometimes has nice days and sometimes not. Daylight savings times starts March 9th so we’ll have longer daylight hours anyway.

(THIS IS YOUR 1ST WARNING )

It’s nice to be thinking about Easter as then we know Spring will arrive also.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S SMILE

At a shower tea I attended, the last gift to be opened was accompanied by a card reading: "May this always be so," and signed, "Much love, Mother and Dad."

Inside was a beautifully framed, yellowed piece of paper with childish handwriting on it, which had once graced the bulletin board in the bedroom of the young bride-to-be. There were tears in her eyes as she read us the message:

"Today we had a test in history. I had to go to the dentist too. We did not win the paper drive. This is the worst day I have ever had in my life."

TODAY’S WORD

 aplomb \uh-PLOM\, noun:

Assurance of manner or of action; self-possession; confidence; coolness

Aplomb is from the French word meaning "perpendicularity, equilibrium, steadiness, assurance," from the Old French phrase a plomb, from a, "according to" (from Latin ad) + plomb, "lead weight" from Latin plumbum, lead

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Whoever obeys the Law and teaches others to do the same, will be great in the kingdom of heaven

Yes, and we realize that those who do this may not be so great on earth. In fact, they may be perceived as backward, antiquated or sentimental. They are those who choose to live modestly and reject materialism, those who live in simplicity and faith in suffering, those who reject a life of promiscuity and drugs.

It is not always easy to be obedient, especially when there are so many examples around us of those who renounce the commandments and Christian life because of a desire to ‘move with the times’. But we don’t have to be pressured to go along with what is trendy.

Obedience must be based on love not fear, freedom not oppression. Our inner discernment and the Holy Spirit’s guidance have major parts to play here. Even though we struggle sometimes, when it comes to God’s Law, it’s okay to obey! His Law is pure goodness and if we follow it there will be a place waiting for us in heaven.

HAPPY TUESDAY !!

WE’VE GOT SNOW !

In case any of you are missing a little SNOW in your lives, I just thought I’d let you know we’ve got more. Another winter storm coming our way today. Actually it is already here but will continue through the day.

Please be careful every body that has to be out and about today.

Monday wasn’t bad at all considering it was a Monday. Very often my mind takes a day to warm up to being at work again. I got my taxes done after work and will get a little refund back so that is always good news too.

Take good care all !

Have agreat day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Just One Minute

When you are depressed, angry, sad, disillusioned, grieving, joyful, tempted, estranged, or in any other state of mind and heart, include God for just a minute.

When you include God for just a minute, that minute is a little window into the infinite love God has for you.

When you include God for just a minute, that minute becomes the door through which Christ will walk to sit down next to you so He can give you peace, joy, comfort, and the incredible power of His uplifting love.

Today I’m asking that you join me in praying for a family (acquaintances of a friend’s sister) who is really in need of prayers right now. They have been very concerned with the illness of one family member who is in intensive care in the hospital and now the dad has suddenly passed away. Please pray for comfort for them and strength to see them through this difficult and sorrowful time. The man who died was a teacher and his students will be very affected by his death also.

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

The custom of wearing a wedding ring on the third finger (not counting the thumb) of the left hand was started by the Greeks in the 3rd century B.C. - by mistake! ONLINE FRIENDS

Throughout our lives, from birth to the grave, Our Impressions of others come from how they behave. We can touch them, feel them, see them and hear The truth of their words through a multi-sensed ear.

We can tell by their eyes, or their language, or look, If their words are sincere, or out of a book. But Online, the words we read on the screen, We Interpret to say what we want them to mean.

Our innermost feelings are brought forth there, From the words that appear on the screen where we stare. Does "I Love You' from them, mean the same as from me? Or am I only a game to them, and should I then flee?

Are they laughing, or joking, or smirking, or worse... While I pour out my heart in short little spurts... And that night, on the phone, when we spoke those same words, Did they hang up and say " Good God, What a Nerd .." ?

In All other places, we choose friends with care... Online, It is sad, We must truly BEWARE... To all of you whom I've poured out my heart...

Remember, be gentle, even though far apart... Because " I LOVE YOU " from me, comes from deep down inside, Where Trust, and Hope, and my true feelings hide...

And no matter the image, I show to the rest... My Online Friends know the real me the best... While with you I share my fears and my dreams... And I pray when we meet, I am all that I seem...

TODAY’S WORD

lissom \LISS-uhm\, adjective; also lissome:

1. Limber; supple; flexible.

2. Light and quick in action; nimble; agile; active

Lissom is an alteration of lithesome, which derives from Old English lithe, "flexible, mild, gentle

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Colossians 3:12

Are we not blessed to know that we have a mighty and loving God who knows each of us by name? (Luke 10:20). We don't have to earn our way into God's kingdom, for he sent his Son to rescue us (John 3:16). Life with our Lord is a gift!

God didn't have to send Jesus, his only Son, to live as one of us and suffer as he did. But Jesus had such compassion that he not only atoned for our sins, but he taught us how to live fruitful lives

When we don't take time to listen and encourage, we are not showing true compassion. And here is the surprise blessing! When we show true compassion to others, God fills our hearts with satisfaction and joy.

HAPPY MONDAY !!

I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready to go back to work today. Whether your work takes you away from home or it is at home we all have some kind of work to do. Winter continues on in northern Ohio and snow flurries are still in our forecast.

The temps today are supposed to be hovering around the mid 30 degree mark so that very often causes so wintry mix that causes some slippery conditions to watch out for.

Sunday I did a little of this and that around the house, all things that needed done, so it was a good day. I talked to DD and to DS#1 on the phone and all is well with them. The week ahead looks pretty quiet. After work on Monday I get my taxes done and Thursday evening is Bible Study.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

I will give you living water.

John 4:10

The story of the woman at the well is a beautiful story that is full of meaning and depth. Jesus is compared to a spring of water constantly bubbling, refreshing and revitalizing. The Samaritan woman is drawn towards Jesus. She comes to see God's plan for her. She realizes that it is Jesus who fulfills her deepest spiritual longings. She represents the confused person, young or old looking for meaning in life and wondering where to find it. She is the lonely person, young, middle aged, old who is looking for love and who has looked for it in the wrong places. She reminds us how God's love reaches deeply into us and is a wellspring for ever.

The promise of Jesus to us is, "I will give you living water."

HAPPY SUNDAY !!

Here we are R & R day again. Yesterday was a pretty sunny winter day here in Northern Ohio. I actually turned the furnace down a notch and it was comfortable in here too! After church today I’ll be home trying to finish up some things around here before going back to work tomorrow.

I put a little dent in my ‘to do’ list and even got some ironing done yesterday, but there’s always more to do. I got some pictures from DS#1 by e-mail showing the new golf carts they got to get us around the campground this summer. I’ll put pictures of them on my journal page if you want to see.

They really camp in style so it will be quite different camping with them this summer as I’m not used to such luxurious camping. It’ll be fun though and it won’t be long til April comes and we’ll be able to spend the weekends at the campground. I do hope it is a nice spring. Those April showers can come during the week, but come the weekend I do hope the sunshines.

I also got a call from our ‘Dino” boy on Saturday evening. What a nice surprise. I don’t get to talk with DS#2’s children very often, but it’s grand when I do. The last time I got to see them was a year ago this past Christmas. That is much too long, but they live very far from here. He says he’s doing good in school and had been out to ride his bike. It was a little cold there, but he got out anyway . It’s hard to believe but he’ll be 8 years old already this April.

It seems my large family never ceases to amaze and delight me. How very blessed I am.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…DINOSAUR LOVERS DAY

The word "dinosaur" was invented by Sir Richard Owen in 1842 to describe "fearfully great reptiles" - and there were only three dinosaurs known at the time.Scientists have now identified more than 700 speicies in many shapes and sizes. They lived from 225 million years ago up until about 65 million years ago. But, actually they live on today as the birds.

TODAY’S SMILE

Things You Can Learn from a Dog . . .

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

Take naps. Stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout . . . run right back and make friends.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

Stop when you have had enough.

Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

TODAY’S WORD

nettlesome \NET-l-suhm\, adjective:

Causing irritation, vexation, or distress

Nettlesome is from the verb nettle, "to sting; to irritate or vex" (from nettle, a plant covered with minute sharp, stinging hairs) + -some

TODAY’S REFLECTION

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven…

Matthew 16:19a

Jesus was speaking to his twelve disciples, but I believe that he gave "the keys of the kingdom" to each of us, when he said, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it. 'Love your neighbor as yourself'" (Matthew 22:37-39)

None of us can escape the troubles that life can bring, but if we are willing to accept Christ's commandments, we have the keys to open the door to "the peace that passes all understanding" (Philippians 4:7).

HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY !!

One more cold snowy, icy day they say and we’ll start warming up a little. It’ll be in the 30’s tomorrow. Meanwhile there is today to get through. It won’t be too bad though because it is Friday.

When I left work yesterday the Xerox copier man was there working on our copy machine. I do hope it works better today. He says we need a new one, but that’s not in the forecast right now so We’ll be hoping he got it all fixed up.

Tonight I’ll be going to the Stations of the Cross as I’m trying to do that every Friday during Lent. I’m not sure what the weekend will hold as nothing special is planned. DD and her hubby are off on a little trip out of town so I’ll be praying for safe travels for them. All is quiet here and that is a good thing!

Keep warm and stay safe on the roads!

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

1732: The first U.S. president, George Washington, was born at his parents' plantation in the Virginia Colony.

George Washington was really born on February 11, 1731. Over twenty years later, in 1752, Great Britain and its American colonies switched calendars from Julian to Gregorian. This switch eliminated eleven days from September of that year: September 2 was followed by September 14. At the same time, New Year's Day was changed from March 25 to January 1. Since then, historians have said that Washington was born in 1732, and the anniversary of his birth has been celebrated on February 22. Interestingly, the man who commanded the Continental Army as a four-star general was promoted posthumously to the position of six-star "General of the Armies of Congress" by an order of Jimmy Carter, who felt America's first President should also be America's highest military official.

TODAY’S SMILE

Cheerfulness is what greases the axles of the world. Don't go through life creaking.

H.W. Byles.

You are like the morning sun on my face

When I'm here with you, there's no better place.

And when the trials of the day get me down

You take my frown and you turn it around

When you smile at me, you just smile at me...

when you smile, just one smile, when you smile.

There is nothing that I'd rather see than the smile

I know is only for me.

And when the day is finally through,

I wish for just a smile from you

And you smile at me

you just smile at me and you smile,

just one smile, and you smile.

Smile for me, just one smile.

You make the world a better place,

You put the smile upon my face.

You bring sunshine into my day

when you smile at me, you just smile at me,

when you smile, just one smile, when you smile...

TODAY’S WORD

relegate \REL-uh-gayt\, transitive verb:

1. To assign to an inferior position, place, or condition.

2. To assign to an appropriate category or class.

3. To assign or refer (a matter or task, for example) to another for appropriate action.

4. To send into exile; to banish.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself…encourage you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.”

 2 Thessalonians 2:16

Are you still in love with Jesus? Before you remember anything, remember him. If you forget anything, don’t forget him. Oh, how quickly we forget.

So much happens through the years. So many changes within. So many alterations without. And, somewhere, back there, we leave him. We don’t turn away from him…we just don’t take him with us.

Assignments come. Promotions come. Budgets are made. Kids are born, and the Christ…the Christ is forgotten.

Has it been a while since you stared at the heavens in speechless amazement? Has it been a while since you realized God’s divinity and your carnality?

If it has, then you need to know something. He is still there. He hasn’t left.

HAPPY THURSDAY !!

I always feel better after I get Wednesday out of the way. Now there is only one more day of work til the weekend! Tonight is my Bible study and as much as I enjoy it I’m not looking forward to going out in the cold again after I get home from work, but I will.

Our weather for this evening says: Additional snow accumulation less than an inch. Lows around 7 above. Looking ahead at the long range forecast we may see some warmer temps and some sun this weekend. That will be a welcome relief. The days are getting longer and as the weeks go by we’ll be warming up for sure.

A church choir was putting on a car wash to raise money for a special trip. They made a large sign that read: CAR WASH FOR CHOIR TRIP. On the scheduled Saturday, business was very good. But, by two o'clock the sky clouded, the rain poured, and there were hardly any customers.

Finally, one of the singers had an idea. She printed a very large poster with the words: WE WASH. GOD RINSES (Next to the words was an arrow pointing skyward.)

Business boomed!

HAPPY WEDNESDAY !!

OVER THE HUMP DAY!

More snow and more cold are headed our way today. Another day of layers on to keep warm too!

I had a really nice dinner out with DD and her hubby last night. The little restaurant just down the street from them had a special deal where they donated 5% of our tab to our church school. So we helped the school and also enjoyed a delicious meal. Our church bulletin had a special coupon in it to take so they would get the credit for it.

I found some decorative things for my camper when I went out at lunch yesterday. I decided that I’d go with the ‘beach’ theme there as it will hopefully be my ‘trip to the beach’ for a long while. I got some shell wind chimes and paper plates napkins and glasses with the beach theme on them too. I even found a sign that says ‘WELOME TO PARADISE’ .

I’ve got several boxes already prepared to take camping. Besides the necessities I now have my decorative items and my new ‘beach’ clothes I got when we went shopping on Sunday.

Can you tell I am ready for the camping season to begin?

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…GUM DROP DAY

Gum drops are one of those old fashioned candies everyone still loves. They were probably first made in Germany as a jellied candy. Sugar cooked at a low temperature plus gelatin kept it soft. Molding it into the familiar drop shape gave it its name. They were the early version of the Gummie candies so popular today.

TODAY’S SMILE

After tucking in his six-year-old son Chris one night, Robert O'Brien tapped his son's chest and asked, "Do you know what you have in there?" Chris looked puzzled and responded, "My guts?" "No, you have a piece of God," his father replied.

After a brief silence Chris responded, "God is in my guts?" "No," said his Dad, "we have a piece of God inside of us; it is God's gift to each of us."

Chris smiled, tapped his Dad's chest, and asked whether his Dad had a piece of God in his guts. They laughed and together they began to ask this same question about the rest of the family. "Does Mommy have a piece of God?"

"Yes," they answered, laughing. "Does Matt have a piece of God?" they asked about his older brother.

"Yes."

O'Brien knew that Chris attended a day care center with a little girl named Mary who was so spoiled she made the people around her miserable.

He said, "You know, even Mary has a piece of God." Chris looked stunned, and then he said emphatically, "No, not Mary."

When his father insisted Chris said, "Daddy, I have been with her more than you. She doesn't have a piece of God.

O'Brien told his son that God never missed anyone; everyone has a piece of God inside. Chris pondered this a while, and then said, "Well, her piece must be all covered up with junk!"

TODAY’S REFLECTION

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

Have you ever noticed how the seasons of the year mirror the seasons of life? In spring we see beautiful buds and blossoms on plants and trees. The blossoms on many of these plants and trees are so beautiful, and they are the promise of beautiful flowers and ripe fruit during the summer.

In the same way, babies are so beautiful and are the springtime promises of the ripened fruit of adulthood in the summers of our lives. Then in some parts of the world comes autumn, the most spectacular season of all. Jack Frost hits the trees and they turn red, coral, gold and maroon before the winds blow them to the ground.

For many of us, the autumn September Song of life is a colorful time of enjoyment. Then comes winter, when in many places all looks dead. Those trees and plants may look dead, but they are not, for by Easter time, they are beginning to bud.

How wonderful that we know that Christ's Easter promises us eternal life! Oh, my friend, don't waste these seasons in anxiety, anger, loneliness or fear. Enjoy your childhood of spring and fruitfulness of summer. Don't let your September Song turn into a dirge of complaints and sourness.

When you stay close to the Lord through prayer, Bible study and fellowship with other believers, you can experience "the joy of the Lord" in all the seasons of your life.

That is my hope for you!
