HAPPY TUESDAY

AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We have trick or treat night here this evening. The weather man is saying all the showers predicted today should end by early evening. I hope so ! It was great going to work in the daylight yesterday morning. The sun was just starting to come up, I couldn’t see it on the horizon, but it was light out at 6:30 when I left the house and it turned out to be a beautiful sunny day! We’ll see what today brings…

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

TODAY IS…WHAT’S HALLOWEEN DAY

Holidays and festivals have been celebrated at the end of October for thousands of years. During the 8th century, the Christian church made November 1st, "All Saints' Day". And the night before was called "All Hallows Eve". Over the years, this name became Halloween. The custom of Halloween was brought to America in the 1800's by European immigrants.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Knock-Knock Day, a day for kids of all ages to try out their knock-knock jokes.

Today is National Caramel Apple Day.

834: Established by Pope Gregory the 4th to honor the saints, the first All Hallows Eve was observed by all Christian churches

1941 - Mount Rushmore was ‘completed’ this day. Actually, the money ran out. Work on the monument, honoring Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt, had begun August 10, 1927. It was dedicated March 3, 1933 although work continued. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum died in 1941 and his son, Lincoln, continued the project until funds ran out on this day. Since then , no additional carving has been done, nor is any further work (other than maintenance) on the memorial planned.

1964 - The Supremes Baby Love was the number one single (for four weeks), while Barbra Streisand’s People was #1 on U.S. album charts (for five weeks).

TODAY’S SMILE

I love the story of a church that had a parking problem. It was right next door to a store that was closed on Sunday. They asked the owner ifthey could use his parking lot.

He said that they could use it for 51 Sundays out of the year but that it would be chained off one week. They were happy with the deal, but curious why it would be chained off that one Sunday.

He explained that he just wanted them to remember that it wasn't their parking lot! You know, there's a lot of wisdom there. Because if you use something long enough, you tend to assume that it's yours.

But everything we have belongs to God. God wants us to remember that.

But then you say in your heart, 'My power and the might of mine hand have gained me this wealth.' And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth. (Deuteronomy 8:17-18).

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Everything you do or say should be done to obey Jesus your Lord.

Colossians 3:17

Have you seen the painting The Angelus by Jean-Francois Millet? It portrays two peasants praying in their field. A church steeple sits on the horizon, and a light falls down from heaven. The rays do not fall on the church, however. They don’t fall on the bowed heads of the man and woman. The rays of sun fall on the wheelbarrow and the pitchfork at the couple’s feet. God’s eyes fall on the work of our hands.

Our Wednesdays matter to him as much as our Sundays. He blurs the secular and sacred. One stay-at-home mom keeps this sign over her kitchen sink: “Divine tasks performed here, daily.” An executive hung this plaque in her office: “My desk is my altar.” Both are correct.

With God, our work matters as much as our worship. Indeed, work can be worship.
