HAPPY THURSDAY!

And Happy New Month of June!

Yesterday was supposed to be our last day of hot temps and high humidity for a least a week. A cool front came though bringing some storms along with it. Today it’ll cool down in the mid 70’s and I’m very thankful for that !

DD is supposed to come by this evening and get some plants from my overgrown day lilys , Black eyed Susans and hosta plants to take to the campsite to plant there. They’ve outgrown their space in my flower beds and need to be thinned out.

They’ll be going camping again, but I’ll be staying home this weekend.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way!

TODAY IS…FLIP A COIN DAY

Heads or Tails? It was Julius Caesar who started the practice of flipping a coin to make decisions. His own head was on one side of every Roman coin, so "heads" determined the winner in each flip. People thought "heads" meant that Caesar agreed with the decision. The coin flip was used in serious litigation involving property, marriage and even criminal guilt. Just think how many lawyers would be out of a job if we went back to this method today!

TODAY’S TRIVIA

June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, Children's Awareness Month, Dairy Month, No-Dairy Month, Fireworks Safety Month, International Men's Month, Turkey Lovers' Month, National Accordion Awareness Month, National Candy Month, National Iced Tea Month, Potty Training Awareness Month, National Rose Month, and National Soul Food Month

TODAY’S WORD

Quiescent

Pronunciation: /kwy-ES-unt/

adj : quiet, still, or at rest; inactive

The quiescent volcano finally erupted after five years

TODAY’S REFLECTION

My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

Proverbs 3: 21-24

When we use sound judgment, we take time to consider our words and actions, thus avoiding the mistakes that cause negative emotions.

If we are discerning, we are able to distinguish between wisdom and foolishness. We can withstand hurtful actions of others.

Then we are able to go to bed with a clear conscience and a happy heart.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I — not events — have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

Groucho Marx

 HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

It is still very hot and humid here. No, I didn’t turn the ac on either. Yes, I am sweltering.

I was up later than I should have been due to a meeting for church. I guess they think 9:00 is a good time to end….not me that’s when I head for bed usually.

Today will be a busy one because of payroll at work. Hope my brain works !

TODAY IS…PATIO GRILL DAY

Whoever discovered fire, probably had the first cookout. No matter when that was, there were definitely many centuries when meals were cooked over an open fire. Maybe doing this today puts us close to nature and reminds us of our caveman ancestors. Or maybe we just do it because food cooked out on the grill tastes so good.

What The Bible Means!

A father was approached by his small son, who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible means!" His father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' the Bible?"

The son replied, "I do know!"

"Okay," said his father.

"So, Son, what does the Bible mean?" "That's easy, Daddy.

It stands for 'Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.'"

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? -- If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Luke 11: 11 & 13

The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray. After giving them a prayer called by some "The Lord's Prayer" or the "Our Father" (Luke 11:2-4). He told them to pray boldly, and then said what is today's scripture. Let’s consider what else the Bible teaches about prayer

Be thankful when you pray. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).

Pray often. "Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus” I Thessalonians 5:17).

Pray for others. "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed” (James 5:16).

Learn to forgive. "And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins" (Mark 11:25

God gives you the Holy Spirit to guide you and he will give you the right answers for your life.

HAPPY TUESDAY!

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DN (nephew)#3

May the dear Lord Bless you today and always !

Back to work once again.

The good Lord gave me a nice long weekend but now I’ve got to return to reality.! It was so hot yesterday that all I wanted to wear was shorts and a light top, I suppose I should wear more than that to work, but I don’t really have to…they really don’t care what anyone wears. Very few people come in our office and most of the time I’m the only one there.

The front porch is cleaned off and I got to sit a little while in my porch swing, but then I went back in the house where it was cooler. The sudden rise in temps to the 90’s is hard to take.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way!

TODAY IS…BIKINI DAY

In 1946, Paris designer Louis Reard was ready to introduce a skimpy, two-piece swimsuit that didn't have a name. At the same time, the US began peacetime nuclear bomb testing on a chain of islands in the Pacific Ocean known as the Bikini Atoll. Wanting media attention for his new design, Reard decided to use the same name. Four days after the first bomb was dropped, the first model walked down the runway wearing a bikini.

1981: The compact disc was first introduced.

A rabbi and a soap maker went for a walk together. The soap maker said, “what good is religion? Look at all the trouble and misery of the world! Still there, even after years thousands of years–of teaching about goodness and truth and peace. Still there, after all the prayers and sermons and teachings. If religion is good and true, why should this be?” The rabbi said nothing.

They continued walking until he noticed a child playing in the gutter. Then the rabbi said, “Look at that child. You say that soap makes people clean, but see the dirt on that youngster. Of what good is soap? With all the soap in the world, over all these years, the child is still filthy. I wonder how effective soap is, after all!”

The soap maker protested. “But, Rabbi, soap cannot do any good unless it is used!”

 “Exactly!” replied the rabbi.

TODAY IS…PAPER CLIP DAY

Fastening papers together started in the 13th century when a short length of ribbon was placed through parallel cuts in the upper left handcorner of pages. It was almost 600 years later before anybody improved on this ribbon fastener. In 1899, Johan Vaaler, an inventor in Norway, patented the paper clip - and it's been used in more ways than you think. During the five-year Nazi occupation of World War II, Norwegians weren't allowed to wear buttons imprinted with the king's initials. Loyal Norwegians wore paper clips to symbolized solidarity and oppose the occupation

It's hard to guess who flew the first kites. But, we can date kites as far back as 3000 years ago in China - they were made from bamboo and silk and were first used by the military. Over the centuries, kites have been reproduced around the world for many different reasons. God and the Spider

During the War, a US marine was separated from his unit. The fighting had been intense, and in the smoke and the crossfire he had lost touch with his comrades Alone in the hills, he could hear enemy soldiers coming in his direction.

Scrambling for cover, he found his way up a high ridge to several small caves in the rock. Quickly he crawled inside one of the caves. Although safe for the moment, he realized that once the enemy soldiers looking for him swept up the ridge, they would quickly search all the caves and he would be killed

As he waited, he prayed, "Lord, if it be your will, please protect me. Whatever your will though, I love you and trust you. Amen." After praying, he lay quietly listening to the enemy begin to draw close. He thought, "Well, I guess the Lord isn't going to help me out of this one.."

Then he saw a spider begin to build a web over the front of his cave. As he watched, listening to the enemy searching for him all the while, the spider layered strand after strand of web across the opening of the cave.

Ha, he thought. "What I need is a brick wall and what the Lord has sent me is a spider web. God does have a sense of humor."

As the enemy drew closer he watched from the darkness of his hideout and could see them searching one cave after another. As they came to his, he got ready to make his last stand. To his amazement, however, after glancing in the direction of his cave, they moved on.

Suddenly, he realized that with the spider web over the entrance, his cave looked as if no one had entered for quite a while. "Lord, forgive me," prayed the young man. "I had forgotten that in you a spider's web is stronger than a brick wall."

We all face times of great trouble. When we do, it is so easy to forget the victories that God would work in our lives, sometimes in the most surprising ways. As the great leader, Nehemiah, reminded the people of Israel when they faced the task of rebuilding Jerusalem,

In God we will have success!

Nehemiah 2:20

travesty  \TRAV-uh-stee\ noun

1 : a burlesque translation or literary or artistic imitation usually grotesquely incongruous in style, treatment, or subject matter 2 : a debased, distorted, or grossly inferior imitation

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused.

1 Timothy 4:4

Have you ever wondered why God made a particular creature, like mosquitos or snakes? I’ve often wondered about earthworms. Why did God form such creepy crawlers?

Actually, worms have an indispensable function to fulfill. In an average acre of ground there are countless earthworms continually breaking up the soil. Their silent and invisible activity is absolutely essential—no worms, no vegetation.

Not only in nature but also in our lives there are invisible forces at work. There is the silent and unseen work of prayer by those who are concerned about our well-being. There is the work of our own spiritual discipline, as we pray and meditate on God’s Word. And there is the vital work of the Holy Spirit, breaking up the clogged soil of our souls and producing in us the Christlike fruit of “love, joy, peace, longsuffering . .

God has ordained unseen influences that bear fruit. Whether it’s the lowly earthworm or the crown of God’s creation—the human race—there is so much more at work than meets the eye.

All things bright and beautiful,

All creatures great and small,

All things wise and wonderful,

The Lord God made them all.

One child suggested that maybe he was adopted. A little girl named Jocelynn said, "I know all about adoptions because I was adopted." "What does it mean to be adopted?" asked another child.

"It means that you grew in your mommy's heart instead of her tummy." said Jocelynn

TODAY’S REFLECTION

If someone strikes you on one cheek,

turn to him theother also

Luke 6:29

This command from our Lord and Savior is a very difficult one because it is normal to want to retaliate for wrongs that are done to us. We are too quick to think of ways to take revenge on the person who has hurt us deeply.

But God's ways are not the ways of the world If you truly try to love others, you will be forgiving rather than vengeful or confrontational.

Perhaps the best revenge we can have is living full, happy lives in spite of hurts

HAPPY FRIDAY

It’s a vacation day for me ! Yes, I’m home slowly waking up with that good cup of coffee right now. Yesterday was like a summer day. Sunny and warm to start, but by the time I got home the thunderstorms rolled in and we are supposed to have a chance of them most of today too! I really don’t mind that it is raining today, because I have lots to do inside.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday are supposed to be warm and sunny so there will be plenty of time to get out doors and do things then.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way!

Historians can't agree on whether the original tossed tins held pies or Frisbie sugar cookies.

Do we have it good or what?? Years ago a Kentucky grandmother gave the new bride the following recipe for washing clothes. It appears below just as it was written, and despite the spelling, has a bit of philosophy. This is an exact copy as written and found in an old scrap book (with spelling errors and all).

1. Bilt fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water.

2. Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert.

3. Shave one hole cake of lie soap in bilin water.

4. Sort things, make 3 piles. 1 pile white, 1 pile colored, 1 pile work britches and rags.

5. To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with bilin water.

6. Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard, and then bile. Rub colored don't bile, just rinch and starch.

7. Take things out of kettle with broomstick handle, then rinch, and starch.

8. Hang old rags on fence.

9. Spread tea towels on grass.

10. Pore rinch water in flower bed.

11. Scrub porch with hot soapy water.

12. Turn tubs upside down.

13. Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs. Brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings.

* Paste this over your washer and dryer and next time when you think things are bleak, read it again and give thanks for your blessings.

HAPPY THURSDAY

This is just like a FRIDAY ! The last day of this work week for me! I got most of my work done yesterday so today will just be finishing up a few little things and getting all the mail out.

On my way home this evening I plan on stopping by the cemetery to leave some flowers on DDH’s grave for Memorial Day. They always have flags for any of the veterans, but I like to take flowers too.

We are supposed to get a few showers today , but the weather will be warm so I’ll just be thankful for that.

Take good care all !

Have a great day ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS TAP DANCING DAY

Tap dancing combined the elements of African drumming and dancing with the techniques of European clog and step dancing. It was a melting pot of cultures that came together in the late 1800s. Taps were added to the heels and toes of shoes in 1925 to make the fast tapping easier to hear. The US Congress designated May 25th as National Tap Dancing Day in honor of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson's birthday.

Little Billy said his good night prayer, closing with something about like this: "Dear Jesus, Tommy Brown has a bicycle and I do want one. Please send me a bicycle."

His parents heard his earnest petition and decided to help answer his prayer. They went down town to secure it but decided he was a little too small for the bicycle and so they got a tricycle. They took it home and placed it in the room where he would see it when he awoke.

Next morning he awoke, sat up in bed and rubbed his sleepy eyes, as he gazed upon the tricycle he said, "Dear Lord, don't you know the difference between a bicycle and a tricycle?"

The parents heard him and took the tricycle and exchanged it for a bicycle. He was definite.

We are too indefinite often in praying.

The needy man, in the Bible, went to his neighbor and said, "Friend, lend me three loaves." Too often we do not pray for anything definite and do not receive anything special.

TODAY’S SMILE

(smile: having an appearance of pleasure or approval)

It was far back in the country. In a certain home typhoid fever was raging. One daughter had died. One son was very low. The doctor came and said, "If we had ice we might save him but he will be gone before it can be obtained for it will require hours to get it." This was before the day of automobiles.

The mother, who loved him devotedly and believed in God and prayer, felt that God could and would, in some way, send ice. She immediately found a secluded place and began to plead the promises.

She prayed something like this, "Lord, Thou hast promised to supply our need. My son, unless ice is obtained immediately, will be gone." Then she reminded the Lord that she believed Him and would trust Him to send it in some way.

They said, while no clouds were visible, at the time of the conversation, as she held on they heard a strange noise. They listened and it was thunder. In a very few minutes the heavens were black and the rain began to pour. Soon they heard something like hail on the roof. They looked again and the hail was falling. In a very few minutes it was piled up against the fences and thick over the ground.

The old mother came out with a dishpan, scooped up a pan full and said, "Doctor here is ice. Here it is." She would shout, run out and fill her pan and say, "Doctor, here it is! God has sent it."

The glory was filling the place. The doctor looked on in wonder, and said, "I never saw it like this before."

Body painting is a decorative art that has been practiced down through the ages - starting with the Egyptian Pharoes who used henna to color the skin for cosmetic purposes. Today, this body art is practised all over the world. In India, it is used as part of traditional wedding ceremonies to draw designs on the bride. In Europe and America it has become an alternative to tattooing since it lasts for only 2-4 weeks instead of being permanent.

A small boy once approached his slightly older sister with a question about God. "Susie, can anybody ever really see God?" he asked. Busy with other things, Susie curtly replied: "No, of course not silly. God is so far up in heaven that nobody can see him."

Time passed, but his question still lingered so he approached his mom: "Mom, can anybody ever really see God?" "No, not really," she gently said. "God is a spirit and he dwells in our hearts, but we can never really see Him."

Somewhat satisfied but still wondering, the youngster went on his way. Not long afterwards, his saintly old grandfather took the little boy on a fishing trip. They were having a great time together. The sun was beginning to set with unusual splendor and the grandfather stared silently at the exquisite beauty unfolding before them.

On seeing the face of his grandfather reflecting such deep peace and contentment, the little boy thought for a moment and finally spoke hesitatingly: "Granddad, I--I-- wasn't going to ask anybody else, but I wonder if you can tell me the answer to something I've been wondering about a long time. Can anybody - can anybody ever really see God?".

The old man did not even turn his head. A long moment slipped by before he finally answered. "Son," he quietly said. "It's getting so I can't see anything else."
