ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

AUGUST 11th, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

People become really quite remarkable when they start thinking that they can do things. When they believe in themselves they have the first secret of success.

Norman Vincent Peale

TODAY’S ACTION

TODAY’S QUOTE

The comfortable and comforting people are those who look upon the bright side of life; gathering its roses and sunshine and making the most that happens seem the best.

Dorothy Dix

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Finally the end of this week has come. I did get my washer fixed. Thanks to my sister to let the repair man in and out while I was at work. It needed 2 belts that were worn out and the service call and the labor were double what the cost of belts were , of course.

The weather is supposed to be nice through the weekend !

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS HAVE A POPSCICLE DAY !

There's nothing like a popscicle on a hot summer day. Flavored "ices" were being made almost as soon as people had ice. They chipped off small pieces, added syrup and served it in a bowl with a spoon. The next step was adding the sticks, and... the rest is history.

Popcicle Recipe

Fresh or frozen berries

1 can seltzer water

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup orange juice

small paper cups

popscicle sticks

1. Put the seltzer water, sugar and orange juice in a blender and mix. 2. Add a handful of berries (to taste). Strawberries or blueberries work well. Blend until well mixed. 3. Pour into the paper cups. You then need to add a popscicle stick to each cup. TIP: Put the cups in the freezer - add sticks once the liquid is slushy. Freeze until hard.

TODAY’S SMILE

Start your day off with a great big smile because every day should be a GREAT DAY.

City Zoo Semantics

The manager of a large city zoo was drafting a letter to order a pair of animals. He sat at his computer and typed the following sentence: "I would like to place an order for two mongooses, to be delivered at your earliest convenience."

He stared at the screen, focusing on that odd word mongooses. Then he deleted the word and added another, so that the sentence now read: "I would like to place an order for two mongeese, tobe delivered at your earliest convenience."

Again he stared at the screen, this time focusing on the new word, which seemed just as odd as the original one. Finally, he deleted the whole sentence and started all over.

"Everyone knows no full - stocked zoo should be without a mongoose," he typed. "Please send us two of them."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

The purposes of a man's heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out.

Proverbs 20:5

Many parents think that love means showering their children with gifts. Spending time with them and encouraging them would mean so much more.

No one loved his disciples more than Jesus and he could have given them anything. Jesus gave his disciples all they needed, and he always took the time to give them his understanding love.

TODAY’S ADVICE FROM THE OLD FARMER’S ALMANAC

Place violets in your bedroom to help you sleep.

Dog Days End

The phrase “Dog Days” refers to the hottest days of summer. The Old Farmer’s Almanac lists the traditional timing of the Dog Days: the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11, coinciding with the heliacal (at sunrise) rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. The rising of Sirius does not actually affect the weather (some of our hottest and most humid days occur after August 11), but for the ancient Egyptians, Sirius appeared just before the season of the Nile’s flooding, so they used the star as a “watchdog” for that event. Since its rising also coincided with a time of extreme heat, the connection with hot, sultry weather was made for all time.
