ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JANUARY 21st, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.

Anne Bradstreet

TODAY’S ACTION

Appreciate the moments that you have today.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Life becomes precious and more special to us when we look for the little everyday miracles and get excited about the privileges of simply being human.

HAPPY SUNDAY

As the cold and wintry days continue, I am once again starting a new day . One that may bring a few joys, or sorrows, as life often surprises us. One thing that I know for sure is that it will be one that the good Lord has given me and you to do the very best we can.

My best this morning is getting myself off to church and as always, I’ll be praying for you all. All my family and friends , all of you that get this little letter each day.

God Bless You !

Have a great day ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

TODAY IS…ELECTRICBLANKET DAY

In 1912, S.I. Russell patented an electric heating pad for tuberculosis patients. The small square of fabric with insolated heating coils was to meant to warm the chest and help them breathe. It sold for $150 - a staggering price at the time. People immediately wanted to make larger, bed-sized pads, but it wasn't until the 1930s that the first electric blanket was made. Today, we have standards for electric blankets that regulate both heating and safety.

TODAY’S SMILE

Superman

At his request, each morning three-year-old Ray's mother pinned a bath towel to the back shoulders of his size two T-shirt.

Immediately in his young imaginative mind the towel became a brilliant magic blue and red cape. And he became Superman. Outfitted each day in his "cape,"

Ray's days were packed with adventure and daring escapades. He was Superman. This fact was clearly pointed out last fall when his mother enrolled him in kindergarten class.

During the course of the interview, the teacher asked Ray his name. "Superman," he answered politely and without pause. The teacher smiled, cast an appreciative glance at his mother, and asked again, "Your real name, please."

Again, Ray answered, "Superman." Realizing the situation demanded more authority, or maybe to hide amusement, the teacher closed her eyes for a moment, then in a voice quite stern, said, "I will have to have your real name for the records."

Sensing he'd have to play straight with the teacher, Ray slid his eyes around the room, hunched closer to her, and patting a corner of frayed towel at his shoulder, answered in a voice hushed with conspiracy, "Clark Kent."

Test for Mental Acuity

It doesn't hurt to take a hard look at yourself from time to time, and this should help get you started.

During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director what the criterion was which defined whether or not a patient should be institutionalized.

"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub."

"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup.

"No." said the Director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?"

(I think I want a bed near the window)

TODAY’S WORD

miscible

\MISS-uh-bul\ adjective :

capable of being mixed; specifically : capable of mixing in any ratio without separation of two phases

Mr. Remington's class demonstration showed that, to paraphrase an old saying, oil and water are indeed not miscible.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Colossians 3:15

Many times others do good things for us and we forget to say thanks. It is so important to find the time to let others know that you appreciate what they have done for you. You might be surprised at what a note or phone call might do. You can make someone's day brighter and make yours brighter also. And never forget to thank God for the life he gives you.

For each new morning with its light,

Father, we thank thee,

For rest and shelter of the night,

Father, we thank thee,

For health and food, for love and friends,

For everything thy goodness sends,

Father, in heaven, we thank thee."

Amen
