ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JANUARY 26TH, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.

W.T. Purkiser

TODAY’S ACTION

Don't lose perspective when dealing with problems

TODAY’S QUOTE

The word which God has written on the brow of every man is Hope.

Victor Hugo (1802-85)

HAPPY FRIDAY

The end of a very long week has finally come. I’m off to work once more . I’m afraid my Dad is still waiting for the pacemaker. He’s now been in the hospital since Tuesday afternoon . He has waited for the pacemaker each day. Each day they say maybe tomorrow. He just sleeps a lot as there is little else he can do. We shall see what today brings.

One thing for sure is that it is very cold here. The artic air has moved in and wind chills bring our temps around ‘O’ degrees. Next week they say we may see some Siberian winds coming our way with even colder temps. I guess we are getting paybacks for the unusually warm weather we had just a few short weeks ago.

I have some special prayer requests today

1. For my Dad and the doctors caring for him

2. for one of my cousins that will have an mri today to see if her chemo is working

Take care and keep warm all !

Have a great day . Another wonderful one on the Way !

And don’t forget our troops . they need our prayers more than ever.

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

I hope you didn’t take it personally Pastor," the embarrassed women said after a church service, "when my husband walked out during your sermon."

"I must admit, I did find it rather disconcerting," he replied. "Its not a reflection on you," said the now red faced lady in a confidential tone,

"Ralph’s been walking in his sleep ever since he was a child."

The Flight To Egypt

A Sunday School teacher ask her class to draw a picture of their favourite Bible story. All were beautiful, deep but understandable until she came to Johnny. For Johnny’s picture showed four people on an aeroplane.

"What’s that? she asked. "Oh, the flight to Egypt," Johnny replied. "I see…. And that must be Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus," she said. "But who’s the fourth person?"

"Oh, that’s Pontius – the Pilot!"

 TODAY’S REFLECTION

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:6b

We adults are told to keep exercising in order to keep our muscles flexible and the older we get, the harder it becomes. Not only is it difficult to be physically flexible, but also to be mentally flexible. We do not like to change, but many times these changes are forced upon us by circumstance -- loss of a job, loss of a loved one through divorce or death.

Today's scripture reminds us that when we were born, God begana good work in us. As a baby, we exercised by instinct. As we grew older, our minds developed and we began to learn, and children seem to be more flexible than adults, when changes are made. If we remember that God can use this change to carry on his good work in us to completion, we can discipline ourselves to choose to accept changes rather than resist them.
