ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

MAY 31st, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don't throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.

Corrie Ten Boom

TODAY’S ACTION

Focus on your goals and chase away excuses.

TODAY’S QUOTE

The best way for a person to have happy thoughts is to count his blessings and not his cash.

HAPPY THURSDAY!

Today will be another hot day for us in Northern Ohio. When I was checking the weather, it seems that all my children from the Gulf Coast to the East Coast and here in Ohio are enjoying just about the same temps for a change. It is very unusual for us to be this warm in May.

Today should be a pretty busy day at work which is always nice as the time goes by faster. I plan to finish up some cleaning here at home this evening. With a dog, two old lady cats, and a dirty bird there is always something to do.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…PATIO GRILL DAY!

Whoever discovered fire, probably had the first cookout. No matter when that was, there were definitely many centuries when meals were cooked over an open fire. Maybe doing this today puts us close to nature and reminds us of our caveman ancestors. Or maybe we just do it because food cooked out on the grill tastes so good

TURKEY SAUSAGE KABOBS

12 (6-inch) skewers

1/2 red onion

1/2 green pepper

1/2 red pepper

1/2 yellow pepper

1 lb. smoked turkey sausage

3 ears corn on the cob

 1/2 cup Italian salad dressing

1. Cut the onion into 12 small wedges. Cut the peppers and sausage into 12 pieces each.

Cook the corn on the cob, then cut each ear into 4 pieces. You now have 12 pieces of each ingredient.

2. Take a skewer and stack the ingredients in this order: onion, red pepper, green pepper, yellow pepper, sausage and corn. Repeat with the rest of the skewers to make the kabobs.

3. Lay the kabobs in a cake pan or any convenient container. Brush each one with Italian dressing, then pour the remainder over the top. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours.

4. Broil or grill 6" from heat for 8-10 minutes (or until heated through). Baste with the Italian dressing and turn frequently.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is What You Think Upon Grows Day, a day to remind people of the power of positive thinking.

Today is National Macaroon Day.

1884: Dr. John Harvey Kellogg of Battle Creek, Michigan, patented "flaked cereal."

1943: The comic strip "Archie Andrews" debuted on the Mutual radio network. Archie, Veronica, Betty, Jughead, and the gang lasted on radio about five years.

1956: Buddy Holly was inspired to write "That'll Be the Day" after he saw the John Wayne movie "The Searchers."

1958: Sheb Wooley’s "Purple People Eater" became the #1 U.S. song and stayed there for six weeks. It was based on a popular children’s riddle: What has one eye, one horn, flies, and eats people? A one-eyed, one-horned, flying people eater.

1969: Stevie Wonder released "My Cherie Amore."

TODAY’S SMILE THINGS I WISH FOR YOU

- A Message from Paul Harvey

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better. I'd really like for them to know about hand-me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meatloaf sandwiches. I really would.

My cherished grandson, I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated. I hope you learn to make your bed and mow the lawn and wash the car. And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen. I hope you have a job by then.

It will be good if at least one time you can see a baby calf born and your old dog put to sleep. I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.

When you want to see a Disney movie and your little brother wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him. I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.

On rainy days when you have to catch a ride I hope your driver doesn't have to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your mom. If you want a slingshot, I hope your dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.

I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books. When you learn to use those new fangled computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head. I hope you get razzed by your friends when you have your first crush on a girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what Ivory soap tastes like.

May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on the stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole. I hope you get sick when someone blows cigar smoke in your face. If you must try beer, I hope you don't like it.

And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend. I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your grandpa and go fishing with your uncle.

May you feel sorrow at a funeral and the joy of holidays. I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through a neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time when you give her a plaster of Paris mold of your hand.

These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

You were chosen to tell about the excellent qualities of God.

 I Peter 2:9

Make a big deal out of God. Become who you are for him! Has he not transferred you from a dull, death-destined life to a rich, heaven-bound adventure?

Remember, “You were chosen to tell about the excellent qualities of God.” And do so every day of your life.

With God, every day matters, every person counts. And that includes you.
