ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JUNE 1ST, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Life is uncharted territory. It reveals its story one moment at a time.

Leo Buscaglia

TODAY’S ACTION

Face your problems as they arise.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Our minds act like a beam of a lighthouse, picking up one object after another. God's mind is like the sun radiating simultaneously on all things at once.

Richard Harries

HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY!

Here we are – June – It’s bursting out all over !

It really does feel like summertime here.

I got a call from DS#6 last evening. In an effort to become more physically fit, he has either sprained or fractured his ankle. Of course it had to be the right one, so he’s unable to drive too. He’ll be having a MRI today, so I’ll be praying that it isn’t broken for sure. We’ll know more after the test is done.

As usual the weekend ahead will be spent with my Dad. He is doing about the same and still needs someone around to help him out.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…FLIP A COIN DAY

Heads or Tails? It was Julius Caesar who started the practice of flipping a coin to make decisions. His own head was on one side of every Roman coin, so "heads" determined the winner in each flip. People thought "heads" meant that Caesar agreed with the decision. The coin flip was used in serious litigation involving property, marriage and even criminal guilt. Just think how many lawyers would be out of a job if we went back to this method today!

1792 - Kentucky entered the United States of America as the 15th state. Since its name is an American Indian word for "great meadow", it is fitting that Kentucky’s nickname is the Bluegrass State, and its flower is the goldenrod. The official state bird is the cardinal. The capital of Kentucky is the city of Frankfort.

1796 - Tennessee joined the United States of America on this day. Long before it officially became the 16th state, Tennessee had already begun to earn its nickname, the Volunteer State, as it sent large numbers of volunteers to fight in the American Revolution. The tradition continued for the War of 1812, the Mexican War and the Civil War. The country-music capital of the world, Nashville, is also the governmental capital of Tennessee. The state’s official flower is the iris, its bird, the mockingbird.

1831 - Sir James Clark Ross, an English navigator and explorer, discovered the magnetic North Pole while on his Arctic exploration.

1935: The Ingersoll-Waterbury Company reported its two-year association with Walt Disney had produced 2.5 million Mickey Mouse watches.

1938: Superman first appeared in Action Comics. His creator, Toronto artist Joe Shuster, sold his rights to the character for $130. Superman’s origin was inspired by the biblical story of Moses, whose parents abandoned him as a baby to save his life.

1954: In the "Peanuts" comic strip, Linus' security blanket debuted.

TODAY’S WORD

 tatterdemalion (tat-uhr-di-MAYL-yuhn, -MALEE-uhn) adjective

Ragged, tattered. noun

A person in ragged clothes.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Do not say to your neighbor, 'Come back later, I'll give it tomorrow — when you now have it with you.

 Proverbs 3:28

Jesus gave us instructions for loving our neighbor: "If someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles" (Matthew 5:40-41).

Why do you suppose Jesus taught this? I believe it was to help us have the abundant life he promised. If you become angry and bitter, you'll end up with contention and heartache. But when you have a loving, giving spirit, you'll find that many people will return your kindness.
