ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

MAY 31ST, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

I always prefer to believe the best of everybody--it saves so much trouble.

Rudyard Kipling

TODAY’S ACTION

Reflect upon a past kindness and the strength it afforded both the giver and the receiver.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I — not events — have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

Groucho Marx

 HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

It is still very hot and humid here. No, I didn’t turn the ac on either. Yes, I am sweltering.

I was up later than I should have been due to a meeting for church. I guess they think 9:00 is a good time to end….not me that’s when I head for bed usually.

Today will be a busy one because of payroll at work. Hope my brain works !

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…PATIO GRILL DAY

Whoever discovered fire, probably had the first cookout. No matter when that was, there were definitely many centuries when meals were cooked over an open fire. Maybe doing this today puts us close to nature and reminds us of our caveman ancestors. Or maybe we just do it because food cooked out on the grill tastes so good.

TURKEY SAUSAGE KABOBS

12 (6-inch) skewers

1/2 red onion

1/2 green pepper

 1/2 red pepper

1/2 yellow pepper

1. Cut the onion into 12 small wedges. Cut the peppers and sausage into 12 pieces each. Cook the corn on the cob, then cut each ear into 4 pieces. You now have 12 pieces of each ingredient. 2. Take a skewer and stack the ingredients in this order: onion, red pepper, green pepper, yellow pepper, sausage and corn. Repeat with the rest of the skewers to make the kabobs. 3. Lay the kabobs in a cake pan or any convenient container. Brush each one with Italian dressing, then pour the remainder over the top. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours. 4. Broil or grill 6" from heat for 8-10 minutes (or until heated through). Baste with the Italian dressing and turn frequently

TODAY’S TRIVIA

1790 US copyright law enacted

1870 - As we get ready for the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer (a great Nat King Cole tune...) we also add ‘sticky’. Edward J. de Smedt of New York City patented the stuff that sticks to car tires and shoes when it gets sticky under the hot sun beginning at this time of year. Mr. DeSemdt came up with the idea of the asphalt pavement

1884: Dr. John Harvey Kellogg of Battle Creek, Michigan, patented "flaked cereal."

TODAY’S SMILE

What The Bible Means!

A father was approached by his small son, who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible means!" His father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' the Bible?"

The son replied, "I do know!"

"Okay," said his father.

"So, Son, what does the Bible mean?" "That's easy, Daddy.

It stands for 'Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.'"

TODAY’S WORD

mettlesome • \MET-ul-sum\ adjective :

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? -- If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Luke 11: 11 & 13

The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray. After giving them a prayer called by some "The Lord's Prayer" or the "Our Father" (Luke 11:2-4). He told them to pray boldly, and then said what is today's scripture. Let’s consider what else the Bible teaches about prayer

Be thankful when you pray. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).

Pray often. "Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus” I Thessalonians 5:17).

Pray for others. "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed” (James 5:16).

Learn to forgive. "And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins" (Mark 11:25

God gives you the Holy Spirit to guide you and he will give you the right answers for your life.
