HAPPY TUESDAY!

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DN (nephew)#3

May the dear Lord Bless you today and always !

Back to work once again.

The good Lord gave me a nice long weekend but now I’ve got to return to reality.! It was so hot yesterday that all I wanted to wear was shorts and a light top, I suppose I should wear more than that to work, but I don’t really have to…they really don’t care what anyone wears. Very few people come in our office and most of the time I’m the only one there.

The front porch is cleaned off and I got to sit a little while in my porch swing, but then I went back in the house where it was cooler. The sudden rise in temps to the 90’s is hard to take.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way!

TODAY IS…BIKINI DAY

In 1946, Paris designer Louis Reard was ready to introduce a skimpy, two-piece swimsuit that didn't have a name. At the same time, the US began peacetime nuclear bomb testing on a chain of islands in the Pacific Ocean known as the Bikini Atoll. Wanting media attention for his new design, Reard decided to use the same name. Four days after the first bomb was dropped, the first model walked down the runway wearing a bikini.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

1848 -W.G. Young of Baltimore, MD patented the ice-cream freezer -- just in time for spring and summer treats!

1868 - Memorial Day was observed for the first time in the United States -- at the request of General John A. Logan, the national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. It was first called Decoration Day because the General had seen women decorating graves of Civil War heroes

1911: Indianapolis hosted its first long-distance auto race; Ray Harroun was the winner at an average speed of 74.59 miles an hour

1922: The Lincoln Memorial was dedicated in Washington DC, by Chief Justice William Howard Taft

The Doric columns on the exterior and Ionic columns on the interior, was designed by architect Henry Bacon. Marble was brought from Colorado and Tennessee, and limestone from Indiana to complete the stately memorial to one of the United States’ most revered presidents. Bronze ceiling beams picture murals and ornamentation created by Jules Guerin. An engraved stone tablet in the south chamber bears Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address; his second inaugural speech, also engraved on a stone tablet, is in the north chamber

1922: "Smilin" Ed McConnell and his banjo debuted on radio. He would make Froggie the Gremlin and His Magic Twanger famous among America’s children

1981: The compact disc was first introduced.

TODAY’S SMILE

A rabbi and a soap maker went for a walk together. The soap maker said, “what good is religion? Look at all the trouble and misery of the world! Still there, even after years thousands of years–of teaching about goodness and truth and peace. Still there, after all the prayers and sermons and teachings. If religion is good and true, why should this be?” The rabbi said nothing.

They continued walking until he noticed a child playing in the gutter. Then the rabbi said, “Look at that child. You say that soap makes people clean, but see the dirt on that youngster. Of what good is soap? With all the soap in the world, over all these years, the child is still filthy. I wonder how effective soap is, after all!”

The soap maker protested. “But, Rabbi, soap cannot do any good unless it is used!”

 “Exactly!” replied the rabbi.
