TODAY'S THOUGHT

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature, and God.

Anne Frank

TODAY’S ACTION

Have great hopes and dare to go all out for them.

TODAY’S QUOTE

There is no one recipe for happiness, but love is always an ingredient.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY

OVER THE HUMP DAY!

I had my pancakes for supper last night. The Tuesday before Ash Wednesday is often called ‘Pancake Day’ or ‘Fat Tuesday’. Many were celebrating ‘Mardi Gras’. I ate my pancakes and am probably a little fatter too !

This evening I’m supposed to meet DS#5 and his wife for dinner after work and then later on I’ll go to church and receive my ashes. We have ashes placed on our foreheads to remind us that ‘to dust we shall return.’ .

This is a time of repentance and reflection. I’ll be putting a few Lenten Reflections in my journal ‘What’s New at My House’ if you care to read them.

It’s so nice to know that the work week is half over !

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful on on the Way!

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

TODAY IS…BARLEY PUDDING DAY

Barley is a hearty grain high in protein and carbohydrates. It is most often seen in soups or stews and usually compared to rice. Using it to make pudding is a traditional Irish method that turns this grain into a delicious dessert

1 quart water

4 Tbsp Pearl barley

1 1/2 lb apples - peeled, cored and sliced

3 Tbsp sugar

3/4 cup heavy cream

1 Tbsp lemon juice

1. Put the barley in the water and bring to the boil. Add the sliced apples and continue cooking over medium-low heat until the barley and apples are soft. 2. Pour into a blender and blend until smooth. Return mixture to the saucepan. 3. Add sugar and lemon juice. Bring to the boil again. Remove from heat, allow to cool, and then chill. Stir in cream right before serving.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent, observed in many Christian churches as a period of fasting and penitence

1878: The first telephone directory was issued, by the District Telephone Company of New Haven, Connecticut

1929: At the Victor Records studio in New York City, Jimmie Rodgers recorded 11 songs, including "Desert Blues" and "Any Old Time." He was already America’s first country music superstar

1885: The Washington Monument was dedicated

1931: Alka Seltzer is introduced. Oh, what a relief it is!

1947 - Edwin Land demonstrated a nifty new gadget to the Optical Society of America in New York City. It was the first camera to take, develop and print a picture on photo paper (in black and white back then) all in about a minute. He called his invention the Polaroid Land Camera.

TODAY’S SMILE

DO GOOD ANYWAY

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered... Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives...

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies...

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you...

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight...

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous...

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow...

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough...

Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God...

It never was between you and them anyway.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

…a time to weep and a time to laugh...

Ecclesiastes 3:4

If you are feeling crushed by life's problems, perhaps now is the time to go to the Lord in prayer, release your anxieties to his loving care, and start to lighten up and look for the fun.

Relax and allow yourself to laugh. Sometimes it takes discipline, but with the Lord's help, you can do it! A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit Proverbs 15:13
