ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

FEBRUARY 18TH,2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.

Robert Browning

TODAY’S ACTION

Live in harmony with your beliefs and ideals.

TODAY’S QUOTE

It is very strange that the years teach us patience - that the shorter our time, the greater our capacity for waiting.

Elizabeth Taylor

HAPPY SUNDAY

We must have added another 3 inches of that white fluffy stuff to our collection yesterday. We really didn’t need any more !

I’m off to church as usual and then home to catch up a little here. We’ll see what the day brings…

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

TODAY IS…PLAY DOH DAY

Play-Doh was created in 1956 by Joe McVicker when he made modeling clay out of wallpaper paste for his sister’s pre-school students. The white dough could be shaped into anything, squashed back into a ball and kept soft in an airtight container. Rainbow Crafts in Cincinnati, Ohio sold the Play-Doh to department stores and schools. It was soon picked up by Kenner, made into lots of colors and sold worldwide

TODAY’S TRIVIA

February 18 starts the Chinese New Year. In the Chinese zodiac, 2007 is the year of the boar, as were 1995, 1983, 1971, 1959, 1947, 1935, and 1923. Individuals born in these years are gallant, noble, and loyal.

Today is National Crab Stuffed Flounder Day

Today is Fasching Sunday in Germany and Austria, always the last Sunday before Lent. That makes it National Pancake Week in the U.S. and Carnival Week, or Mardi Gras, in many other countries

1885: Mark Twain's ''Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'' was published

1908 - U.S. postage stamps were sold for the very first time. They cost only a penny...

1960: The Everly Brothers recorded "When Will I Be Loved?"

TODAY’S SMILE

A guy had an awful day fishing on the lake, sitting in the blazing sun all day without catching a single fish. On his way home he decided to stop at the supermarket and order four catfish. He told the fish salesman, "Pick four large ones out and throw them at me, will you?"

"Why do you want me to throw them at you?"

"Because I want to tell my wife that I caught them."

"Okay, but I suggest that you take the orange roughy."

"Why?"

"Because your wife came in earlier today and said that if you came by, I should tell you to take orange roughy. She prefers that for supper tonight."

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but hethat soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Galatians 6:7

TODAY’S WORD

polestar

(noun) [POEL-stawr']

1. a star at the end of the handle of the Little Dipper and almost at the north celestial pole (North Star, polar star, polestar)

2. a guiding principle:

"John took the leap to a riskier and more challenging position, following a polestar against complacency that had lead him through every job change since college."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.

Jeremiah 6:16

You can be going along at an easy pace and suddenly your path is blocked by an unexpected event. You have to make a detour and sometimes it isn't easy to make that change.

But you have a choice. You can both whine and complain, feeling sorry for yourself, or you can look for the good in the situation and find new opportunities that you hadn't seen before. Through prayers we can ask God to show us where the good way is and then walk in it.
