ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JULY 12TH, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

The more you lose yourself in something bigger than yourself, the more energy you will have.

TODAY’S ACTION

Spend part of every day just doing something you'd like to do. Today will never come again, and yesterday is through.

TODAY’S QUOTE

When you feel “dog tired” at night, it may be because you growled all day.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY

And

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO DD AND DSIL

May the dear Lord bless you both!

Yesterday brought more showers our way and I think it felt warmer too. I did turn the a/c on because the humidity was so very high. Otherwise it’s a very quiet week here. Work and home , work and home,

Just ‘ordinary’ days!

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…TOM SAWYER DAY

"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" was Mark Twain's first novel. The book was a failure when it was published in 1876, but it was a stepping stone to bigger things. He went on to write the great "Huckleberry Finn" and other stories of childhood or the Mississippi Valley. By the time he died, this failure had become an American classic and is the most popular of all his books today.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Pecan Pie Day.

Eat Your Jell-O Day - Celebrated on the Birthday of comedian/actor Bill Cosby. He was born on this day in 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Minimum Wage Day - On this day in 1933, Congress passed the fist minimum wage law ($.40 per hour).

Simplicity Day - Celebrated on the birthday of Henry David Thoreau. He was born in 1817. Today follow his advice to "Simplify, simplify, simplify!"

1862 - The Medal of Honor was authorized on this day by the U.S. Congress.

1958 - Yakety Yak, by The Coasters, became the number one song in the U.S.A., according to Billboard magazine. It was the first stereo record to reach the top of the chart.

1960 - The first Etch-A-Sketch went on sale. Over 50 million units were sold during the next 25 years. It was the favorite toy of many moms because it was self-contained and so-o-o quiet

1982 - E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial broke all box-office records by surpassing the $100-million mark of ticket sales in the first 31 days of its opening.

1982: The last of the distinctive looking Checker taxicabs rolled off the assembly line in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The company had produced those cabs since 1922

TODAY’S SMILE

On a positive note I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.

I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.

I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life.

I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as making a "life."

I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.

I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.

I've learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But if you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your work and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you.

I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, usually make the right decision.

I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love that human touch - holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.

I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

I've learned that you should pass this on to someone you care about. I just did. Sometimes they just need a little something to make them smile.

People may forget what you said, people may forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel!

TODAY’S WORD

 regale

Pronunciation: /ri-GAYL/ v : to entertain, especially with fine food and drink

She regaled her attendants with a sumptuous feast.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Be still, and know that I am God.

Psalms 46:10

We are so busy focusing on worldly things -- that we never see the marvelous works of God all round us.

How about stopping for about 10 seconds, shut out the world for a moment, and focus on something wondrous around you.

As simple as that sounds, it is one of the hardest things in the world for us to do, isn't it?

Stop and take a "God break." I just did and I needed it!

How about you?
