ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JULY 29TH, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

A hundred times every day

I remind myself that my inner

and outer life depends on the labors of other men,

living and dead, and that I must exert myself

in order to give in the measure as

I have received and am still receiving.

Albert Einstein

TODAY’S ACTION

Look back and see how far you have come.

 TODAY’S QUOTE

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

HAPPY SATURDAY

Because it rained after we got home from our walk the other night, we sat out on the front porch instead of on the patio out in the back of the house.  There is just nothing more relaxing than sitting in the porch swing watching the rain coming down.  My beagle hopped up in the swing and sat with me too !

Well, that got me through Friday and here it is Saturday already.  This weekend looks to be a quiet one with only the 'ordinary' things going on.

Take good care all !

Have a great day !  Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…COUNTRY MUSIC DAY

Singing stories began in the Middle Ages and moved to America with the early settlers. By 1900, stories sung to fiddles spread through Appalachia and the Old West. In the 1920s, radio put these fiddlers on the air and created a national audience for the music. "Grand Ole Opry" Master of Ceremonies, George D. Hay, called it "down to earth, for the earthy."

We call it country music.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Lasagna Day. NASA Day - President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act on this day in 1958.

Saint Martha Feast Day - The sister of Lazarus and hostess to Jesus is patron saint of cooks, servants, innkeepers, housekeepers, and lay sisters.

The annual All American Soap Box Derby is today in Akron, Ohio.

1866: Thomas Chisholm was born. The American Methodist pastor wrote 1,200 poems, one of which became the familiar hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness."

1950: RKO Pictures released the Walt Disney adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson literary classic "Treasure Island."

.1963: Peter, Paul and Mary released "Blowin' In The Wind."

1967: Louis Armstrong recorded "What A Wonderful World." He insisted on singing the song only once. ABC Records used the first and only take.

TODAY’S SMILE

A guy got a credit card bill stating that he owed $0.00. He ignored it and threw it away.. Next month he got another, did the same thing. The next month they sent him a very nasty note stating they were going to cancel his credit card if he didn't send them $0.00.

He called them, talked to them, they said it was "a glitch" and told him they'd take care of it.. The following month he tried to charge something and couldn't. He called the credit card company who again said they'd take care of it..

The next day he got his bill for $0.00 stating that he was very delinquent.. The man figured the credit card company would take care of it, so he didn't worry. The next month he got a bill for $0.00 stating that he had 10 days to pay or his account was going to collection..

He mailed the credit card company a check for $0.00, and the credit card company's computer processed it, noting that his account was now paid in full..

A week later, the man's bank called him asking him what he was doing writing a check for $0.00. He explained and they said, "Well, your $0.00 check has caused our check processing software to fail. We now can't process ANY of our checks from that day electronically because that $0.00 check is causing the program to abort."

The man, who had been considering buying his wife a computer for her birthday, bought her a typewriter instead.

ONE MORE

In a Bible class one day, a teacher asked, “What was the greatest miracle in the Bible?” A weary young father of several pre-schoolers said, “It was when Joshua told the sun to stand still, and his sun obeyed him!”

The Bible is full of miracles!

Just Say Thanks!

If you go to the web site at www.letssaythanks.com

you can pick out a thank you card and the Xerox Corporation will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq.

You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

It is FREE and it only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Be prepared in season and out of season.

 II Timothy 4:2

The apostle Paul was instructing young Timothy in ways to be a good pastor. Today's scripture contains good advice for all Christians.

During those out of season times, when simple living is filled with routine tasks, we simply plod along and forget about all our good intentions
