TODAY’S QUOTE

A day hemmed in by prayer is less likely to unravel...

HAPPY MONDAY

BACK TO WORK !

We sat on the porch a little yesterday evening, but not very long..very muggy.  It rained a little and cooled it off some but it was over 100 degrees here with the heat index.  I'm not sure how they figure it, but it's the 'feels like' temp not the one on the thermometer.

I received a call from DD yesterday when they were on their way home from camping and she invited me for dinner this evening.  I never pass up a chance to visit with my family, unless it can't be helped, so I'll be the taste tester on her first crock pot roast.  Sounds good to me.

DS#1 also called to let me know they were home from camping also.  They had a nice Saturday, but rain on Sunday.

DS#6 says he'll be having a booth at our county fair come the end of August doing his artwork.  This is the first time ever that I can remember the fair being the week before school starts.  He lucked out there.

That's the news from home as I know it.

Have a great day all !  Another wonderful one on the way !

TODAY IS…COTTON CANDY DAY !

Cotton candy is nothing but sugar, air and a little food coloring! And there is no way to make it without special equipment. You have to melt the sugar and spin it through small holes to make threads. The air cools the threads so they form a fluffy web that sticks to a paper cone. And why does it melt in your mouth? If you mix cotton candy with water, it dissolves right back into sugar.

TODAY’S SMILE

The Weathered Old Barn

(Author Unknown)

A stranger came by the other day with an offer that set me to thinking. He wanted to buy the old barn that sits out by the highway. I told him right off he was crazy. He was a city type, you could tell by his clothes, his car, his hands, and the way he talked. He said he was driving by and saw that beautiful barn sitting out in the tall grass and wanted to know if it was for sale.

I told him he had a funny idea of beauty. Sure, it was a handsome building in its day. But then, there's been a lot of winters pass with their snow and ice and howling wind. The summer sun's beat down on that old barn till all the paint's gone, and the wood has turned silver gray. Now the old building leans a good deal, looking kind of tired.

Yet, that fellow called it beautiful. That set me to thinking. I walked out to the field and just stood there, gazing at that old barn.

The stranger said he planned to use the lumber to line the walls of his den in a new country home he's building down the road. He said you couldn't get paint that beautiful. Only years of standing in the weather, bearing the storms and scorching sun, only that can produce beautiful barn wood.

It came to me then. We're a lot like that, you and I. Only it's on the inside that the beauty grows with us. Sure we turn silver gray too ... and lean a bit more than we did when we were young and full of sap. But the Good Lord knows what He's doing. And as the years pass

He's busy using the hard wealth of our lives, the dry spells and the stormy seasons, to do a job of beautifying our souls that nothing else can produce. And to think how often folks holler because they want life easy!

They took the old barn down today and hauled it away to beautify a rich man's house. And someday you and I'll be hauled off to Heaven to take on whatever chores the Good Lord has for us on the Great Sky Ranch. And I suspect we'll be more beautiful then for the seasons we've been through here ... and add a bit of beauty to our Father's house.

TODAY’S WORD

incunabulum

\in-kyuh-NAB-yuh-lum\ noun

1 : a book printed before 1501

2 : a work of art or of industry of an early period

Among the library's archives is a collection of exquisite incunabula. T

he invention of the mechanized printing press in the 15th century revolutionized the way books were produced, dramatically increasing the number and variety of works to be published and distributed to awaiting readers. "Incunabulum" first appeared in English in the 19th century, referring retroactively to those books produced in the first decades of printing press technology, specifically those printed before the year 1501.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.

Philemon vs. 7

We have a temporary friendship with so many along the path of simple living -- neighbors who stay for just a short time, people we meet at a resort or convention. It is so hard to remember everyone.

In today's scripture, Paul is telling his friend how happy he is that his friend has "refreshed the hearts of the saints." Perhaps you may not remember everyone's name, but who knows what an impact you have had on the people you have met.

If you allow the Lord to be your guide, you may be able to encourage and inspire someone during that short fellowship together. If so, you're responding to Jesus' command: "Love your neighbor as yourself.
