ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JULY 19TH, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

There is time for everything.

Thomas Edison

TODAY’S ACTION

TODAY’S QUOTE

Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.

Norman Vincent Peale

HAPPY WEDNESDAY !

It’s Over the Hump Day !

We didn’t get our rain yesterday, but it was cooler. Mid 80’s is better than upper 90’s. They say our heat index was 100 degrees on Monday. From the sounds of things we are having cooler weather than a lot of people. Maybe that’s because we are up by Lake Erie.

This week is slowly going by, I guess that’s a good thing, because I’m not in a hurry about doing anything…It is the lazy hazy days of Summer after all.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…IT’S FLITCH DAY

An old custom brought to America by the early settlers became the holiday we now call Flitch Day. Once a year, a slab of bacon was given to any married couple who could prove they had lived in harmony and fidelity for the past twelve months. Very few "took home the bacon".

TODAY’S SMILE

A few corny ones today…

Q. What is one of the first things that Adam and Eve did after they were kicked out?

A. They really raised Cain.

Q. How long did Cain hate his Brother?

A. As long as he was Able!

A young man who was also an avid golfer found himself with a few hours to spare one afternoon. He figured if he hurried and played very fast, he could get in 9 holes before he had to head home. Just as he was about to tee off an old gentleman shuffled onto the tee and asked if he could accompany the young man as he was golfing alone. Not being able to say no, he allowed the old gent to join him.

To his surprise the old man played fairly quickly. He didn't hit the ball far, but plodded along consistently and didn't waste much time. Finally, they reached the 9th fairway and the young man found himself with a tough shot.

There was a large pine tree right in front of his ball, directly between his ball and the green. After several minutes of debating how to hit the shot the old man finally said, "You know, when I was young, I'd hit the ball right over that tree."

With that challenge placed before him, the youngster swung hard, hit the ball up, right smack into the top of the tree trunk and it thudded back on the ground not a foot from where it had originally lay.

The old man offered one more comment, "Of course, when I was young, that pine tree was only 3 feet tall."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. They are the people he called, because that was his plan.

Romans 8:28

Tears and sorrow come, but each time God will be there to remind you that He cares.... God causes all things in our lives to work together for good. Flowers can grow on dung hills, and compost makes great gardens.

God is offering Himself to you daily, and the exchange is fixed. It is your sins for His forgiveness, your tragedy and hurt for His balm of healing, and your sorrow for His joy.

Barbara Johnson
