ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JULY 22ND., 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

In times like these, it helps to recall that there have always been times like these.

Paul Harvey

TODAY’S ACTION

Open the window of your heart and let your light and love shine through. The happiness you share with others will circulate back to you.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come.

Anne Lamott

HAPPY SATURDAY !

It’s great to sit back and enjoy this morning and not rush off to work. I can’t ever remember enjoying mornings so much as I do now. I used to be a night time person, but after working so many years and getting up early I’ve had to change my ways.

I’ll be doing my usual house blessing and visit with my Dad today…another ordinary day – I do love them!

DDIL#5 came through her surgery just fine and should be coming home sometime today. Thank the dear Lord and thank you for your prayers!

Have a great day ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…LION’S SHARE DAY!

This popular expression comes from an an Aesop fable. A lion, a cow, a sheep and a goat form a hunting party. They kill a deer, and the lion divides it into four equal parts. He takes three of the parts (the lion's share) and lets the others divide one. Sounds like a pig to me!

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Cleveland. Ohio’s Birthday - Founded by Moses Cleaveland in 1796.

On July 22nd, 1796,Moses Cleaveland landed at the mouth of the Cuyahoga. He ascended the bank, and, beholding a beautiful plain covered with a luxuriant forest-growth, divined that the spot where he stood, with the river on the west and Lake Erie on the north, was a favorable site for a city. He accordingly had it surveyed into town lots, and the employees named the place Cleaveland, in honor of their chief.

There were but four settlers the first year, and, on account of the insalubrity of the locality, the growth was at first slow, reaching 150 inhabitants only in 1820.

In 1830, when the first newspaper, the "Cleveland Advertiser," was established, the editor discovered that the head-line was too long for the form, and accordingly left out the letter "a" in the first syllable of "Cleaveland," which spelling was at once adopted by the public.

 TODAY’S SMILE

A fire started on some grassland near a farm in Indiana. The fire department from the nearby town was called to put the fire out. The fire proved to be more than the small town fire department could handle, so someone suggested that a rural volunteer fire department be called.

The volunteer fire department arrived in a dilapidated old fire truck. They drove straight towards the fire and stopped right in the middle of the flames. The volunteer firemen jumped off the truck and frantically started spraying water in all directions and beating the fire out by flaying it with their jackets.

Soon they had snuffed out the center of the fire, dividing the flames into two easily controllable parts. Now the farmer was so impressed with the volunteer fire department's work and so grateful that his farm and crops had been spared, he presented the volunteer fire department with a check for $1000.

A local news reporter asked the volunteer fire captain what the department planned to do with the funds. "That should be obvious," he responded. "The very first thing we're gonna do is get the brakes fixed on that stupid fire truck."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

I asked the LORD to give me this child, and he has given me my request. Now I am giving him to the LORD, and he will belong to the LORD his whole life.

1 Samuel 1:27-28

These precious children are indeed gifts entrusted to parents for a short while. They're not ours, they're God's. Even when they spill the milk, rip their pants, and get into fights with their sister.

And parents are there as God's babysitters to see that they have good models and a chance to make this world a better place.

TODAY’S ADVICE FROM THE OLD FARMER’S ALMANAC
