ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

DECEMBER 1st, 2OO7

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Henry David Thoreau

TODAY’S ACTION

Grasp every opportunity to offer encouragement to others.

TODAY'S QUOTE

Everything that happens is either a blessing, which is also a lesson or a lesson which is also a blessing.

Polly Berrien Berends

HAPPY SATURDAY!!

Here we are another new month already. Ever since September, the time has just flown. December is one of my favorite months of the year just because I love Christmas and everything about it.

Advent will begin this coming Sunday and we will then have 4 weeks to prepare for Christmas. There are so many things we can do that I'll be entering lots of things here and also on my What's New at My House journal - at onyama.blogspot.com

I'll also be using the topic of GIFTS for my Good Morning Sunshine journal page. The links for my journal pages are always at the end of each of these newsletters. 'On the Brightside' is read by so many different people. I just had an e-mail the other day from a nurse in Colorado She came across my blog and uses parts of it to encourage her staff every day. I can only thank the good Lord for enabling me to bring a little sunshine into someone else's life.

It seems I find lots to share with you all and it just doesn't all fit here in this little newsletter.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

LORD, hold our troops in you loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perfor for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TO REMEMBER...

I am in the hands of God, and in God's time all things will be made well.

TODAY IS…APPLE KRINKLE DAY

We have an Apple Krinkle day is because it's my favorite winter dessert. And I have a recipe to give you. Eat this hot out of the oven or cold out of the fridge. Eat it plain or pile on the ice cream. There is nothing you can do to this that makes it anything except yummy good!

4 cups apples

1 cup sugar

2 tablespoons flour

Topping

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup flour

1/3 brown sugar

1/2 oatmeal

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees 2. Peal and slice the apples into a baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of flour over the top of the apples. 3. Put the butter, flour, brown sugar and oatmeal for the topping in a mixing bowl. Blend well with the back of a fork. Spread evenly over the top of the apples. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour - until the apples are bubbly and the top is brown

TODAY'S TRIVIA

December is the twelfth and last month of the year, with 31 days. From the Latin decem for "ten" (it was the tenth month of the year, before January and February were added). December begins on the same day of the week as September every year. December's flower is the Narcissus with its birthstone being the Turquoise. The meaning of the Turquoise is Prosperity

National Stress-Free Family Holidays Month begins

Cookie Cutter Week begins

Today is National Eat a Red Apple Day

Today is My Husband's Strung the Christmas Lights and Now I Can't Open the Garage Door Day

The annual Chia Pet Hunting Season begins today

This is National 3D Month, a time to prevent drunk and drugged driving

1917 - Father Edward Flanagan opened Boys Town, a farm village for wayward boys (and for girls since 1979), in an area west of Omaha, Nebraska. In 1938, Spencer Tracy portrayed Father Flanagan in the movie, Boys Town, and won himself an Oscar.

1929: Edwin S. Lowe invented the game of Bingo

1945 - Burl Ives made his concert debut. He appeared at New York’s Town Hall. We lovingly listen every year for the voice of this old-time radio personality as the narrator and banjo-pickin’ snowman in TV’s Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

1973 - ‘The Golden Bear’, Jack Nicklaus, won the Walt Disney World Open Golf Tournament and became the first golfer to win $2 million in career earnings

Sometimes the holiday season has us scurrying around so fast that we forget to stop and play. But consider December’s history. During this month in 1851, the first YMCA opened. This month saw the first ball-bearing roller skates patented in 1884. The first table tennis tournament was played in 1901, and the first crossword puzzle was printed in a New York newspaper in 1913. Monopoly debuted in December of 1935, and in 1951, Bob Waterfield became the first professional football player to kick five field goals in one game

TODAY’S SMILE

THE WONDER OF A CHILD

Daddy," she said, her eyes full of tears, "Will you talk to me and quiet my fears? Those bad boys at school are spreading a lie 'Bout the impossibility of reindeer that fly. There's no Santa Claus, they say with a grin, There's not one now and never has been."

"How can one man take all those toys? To thousands of girls and boys?

But I told them daddy, that they were not right, That I would come home and find out tonight. Mama said wait until you get home Please tell me now that I was not wrong."

Her daddy looked at her questioning face And puffed his pipe while his frantic mind raced. He had put this thing off as long as he could, He had to think fast and it better be good.

Whispering a prayer, he began with a smile, "Well climb on my lap, dear, let's talk a while."

"Remember at church how we learned to pray, Asking God to take care of us each day? And you know how we say grace before each meal? To this same God whom we know to be real Though we never see Him, we know He is there Watching his children with such loving care."

"God started Christmas a long time ago When He gave us His son to love and to know. A spirit of giving came with that birth, And God's generosity filled the whole earth. Man had to name this spirit of giving

Just as He names all things that are living."

"The name Santa Claus came to someone's mind Probably the best name of any to find There is, you can see, and I think it quite clear, Truly a Santa who visits each year.

Spirits like God, whom we never see He enters the hearts of your mother and me."

"Each year at Christmas for one special night We become him and make everything right. But the REAL spirit of Christmas is in you and in me, And I hope you are old enough now to see

That as we believe and continue to give, Our friend Santa Claus will continue to live.

TODAY’S WORD

 malapropos \mal-ap-ruh-POH\, adjective:

1. Unseasonable; unsuitable; inappropriate.

adverb:

1. In an inappropriate or inopportune manner; unseasonably

As an on-air radio pronouncer, I am quite familiar with the hazard of opening the mouth before the brain is in gear. It is very easy to fire-off a malapropos statement in the heat of trying to make a point and the result is some funny things are said, but perhaps not meant.-- Gerry Forbes, "Foot-in-Mouth Afflictions

TODAY’S REFLECTION

But as many as received him, to them gave he power.

John 1:12

What is the most important thing about you when you get up each morning? It is more important than money, job, or how others treat you. What is that important thing? Your attitude!

Even if you have made mistakes, you don't have to give up. When you throw up your hands and say," I'm a failure! I can't handle this," you're building barriers to the blessings God can shower on you. But when your attitude is positive and you say, "This may look hopeless, but with God's help, I'll try," you'll find that God's power will guide you to the answers of your dilemma
