ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

DECEMBER 3rd, 2OO7

TODAY'S THOUGHT

One of the sanest, surest and most generous joys of life comes from being happy over the good fortune of others.

John Rutledge

TODAY’S ACTION

Listen to your inner voice and focus on your purpose.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. What if they are a little coarse, and you may get your coat soiled or torn? What if you do fail, and get fairly rolled in the dirt once or twice. Up again, you shall never be so afraid of a tumble.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

HAPPY MONDAY !!

I had a quiet weekend and got a few gifts wrapped and a few cards written, but nothing is done yet. We had more high winds here in Northern Ohio last night. I haven’t been out to see if there are any shingles missing, but hopefully not.

On the calendar for this week is my Bible Study on Thursday evening, then on Saturday I plan to go with DD and her hubby to visit the Newlyweds.

Next Sunday evening our church is having an Advent Prayer service so I’ll be going to that. Otherwise, all is pretty quiet here and I’ll be off to work as usual.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

My SIL’s cousin had a preemie baby this past week. The little boy is only 1lb 9oz’s so I’d be grateful if you would join me in praying for this tiny precious one. His mom and dad will appreciate it for sure.

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TO REMEMBER…

I am in the hands of God, and in God’s time all things will be made well.

TODAY IS…LET’S HUG DAY !

You Deserve A Hug, so...

HERE IT IS!

(((HUG!)))

BIG HUGS TO YOU ALL !

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Alka-Seltzer Day, marking its introduction by the Dr. Miles Medical Company of Elkhart, Indiana, on December 3, 1931

1818 - Illinois (from an American Indian word meaning ‘tribe of superior men’) is the name of the 21st state to enter the United States of America. Many superior men have hailed from Illinois, the most famous being Abraham Lincoln. The ‘Illinois rail-splitter’ is buried in the city where he was married and began his legal career, Springfield, the capital of Illinois. Also known as the Prairie State, Illinois calls the tiny, but beautiful violet, the state flower, while state bird honors were bestowed on the brightly colored cardinal

1833 - Oberlin College in Ohio started classes as the first coed institution of higher learning in the United States. Looking at the school’s registration, one would have found a total of 44 students enrolled: 29 men and 15 women.

1944 - Frank Sinatra was in the Columbia Records studio recording Old Man River

1950: Newscaster Paul Harvey made his first national broadcast from Chicago

1960 - Camelot opened at the Majestic Theatre in New York City. Richard Burton and Julie Andrews played the leading roles in the musical written by Lerner and Loewe

2000: Space shuttle Endeavour's astronauts attached the world's largest, most powerful set of solar panels to the international space station

TODAY’S SMILE

A man hated his wife's cat and he decided to get rid of it. He drove 20 blocks away from home and dropped the cat there. The cat was already walking up the driveway when he approached his home.

The next day, he decided to drop the cat 40 blocks away but the same thing happened. He kept on increasing the number of blocks but the cat kept on coming home before him.

At last he decided to drive a few miles away, turn right, then left, past the bridge, then right again and another right and so on until he reached what he thought was a perfect spot and dropped the cat there.

Hours later, the man calls his wife at home and asked her, "Jen is the cat there?"

"Yes, why do you ask?" answered the wife.

Frustrated the man said, "Put that cat on the phone, I am lost and I need directions."

One more…

A little four-year-old inquired of her widowed mother one moonlight night: "Mama, is the moon God's light?"

The light had just been put out, and the timid little girl, as well as her mother, was afraid of the dark; but presently she saw the bright moon out of her window, and it suggested the question:

"Is the moon God's light?"

"Yes, Ethel," the mother replied; "the moon and stars are all God's lights."

Then came the next question from the little girl: "Will God blow out his light and go to sleep too?"

"No, my child," replied the mother, "his lights are always burning."

"Well, mama, while God's awake, I am not afraid."

TODAY’S WORD

 vicissitude \vih-SIS-ih-tood; -tyood\, noun:

1. Regular change or succession from one thing to another; alternation; mutual succession; interchange.

 2. Irregular change; revolution; mutation.

3. A change in condition or fortune; an instance of mutability in life or nature (especially successive alternation from one condition to another).

Vicissitude comes from Latin vicissitudo, from vicissim, in turn, probably from vices, changes.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

I rejoiced because they said to me, “We will go up to the house of the LORD.” And now we have set foot within your gates, O Jerusalem.

Psalm 122:1-2

The time of Advent is a time of waiting and making ready to receive the Lord more fully into our lives. The readings today give us a great many images of God and his life and the way in which he works in our lives.

Isaiah is telling us how important the city of God is to those who wish to follow the Lord. Today, the city of God for us is where there are others who also wish to find the will of God in their lives, as we are searching in our own.

We are the individual parts, as St Paul reminds us, of the one body of Jesus Christ
