ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

NOVEMBER 17th, 2OO7

TODAY'S THOUGHT

There are two worlds; the world that we can measure with the line and rule, and the world that we feel with our hearts and imagination.

Leigh Hunt

TODAY’S ACTION

Right a wrong in your own life.

TODAY'S QUOTE

If you fill your heart with regrets of yesterday and worries of tomorrow, you have no today to be thankful for

HAPPY SUPER SATURDAY!!

This is my weekend to get the house ready for company next week. I don't think that anyone will staying over, they'll just come in for Saturday when we have our family feast. So I won't need to get the spare beds ready. That is one floor of the house that I won't have to clean .

DS#3 emailed yesterday to say that they had a nice coating of snow on the ground and that the kids were very excited about it. He is close to what they call the snow belt in Ohio and sees alot more of it than I do. Hopefully the weather will hold and no one will have bad roads to travel on next weekend. That is something we never know about til it happens this time of year.

We'll see...

Have a great day all! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY’S SMILE

To those of us who have children in our lives, whether they are our own, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or students...here is something to make you chuckle. Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to His own children

After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And one of the things he said was "DON'T!"

"Don't what?" Adam replied.

"Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said.

"Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit? Hey Eve.. we have forbidden fruit!!!!!"

"No Way!"

"Yes way!"

"Do NOT eat the fruit!" said God. "Why"

"Because I am your Father and I said so!" God replied, wondering why He hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants.

A few minutes later, God saw His children having an apple break! "Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" God asked.

"Uh huh," Adam replied. "Then why did you?" said the Father.

"The serpent made me do it," said Eve.

"She started it!" Adam said

"Did not!"

"Did too!"

 "DID NOT!"

Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own.

Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed. But there is reassurance in the story! If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself. If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you?

TODAY’S REFLECTION

...take courage, all you people of the land, says the Lord; work, for I am with you, says the Lord of hosts, according to the promise that I made you when you came out of Egypt. My spirit abides among you; do not fear. For thus says the Lord of hosts from the book

Haggai 2:1, 3-9

The scripture for today begins with a specific time marker. It points to the seventh day of the great eight day autumn festival, the Feast of Booths. This seventh and significant day celebrates the harvest and God’s sustaining care.

For Israelites, the Feast of Booths was a celebration of their liberation from Egypt and a remembrance of what they lost as a nation. This scripture ties a festival of remembrance for Israelites together with a current-day need.

Sometimes we can get frustrated with life’s circumstances. We get bogged down with the latest project... We can lean on God during those rough times, just as Haggai instructed the Israelites. God’s love and promises never fail!

The thing about promises is that they connect us to one another. When we make promises to others, or when others make promises to us, we are connected in a way that makes us vulnerable to one another, because now we have expectations of one another. God promises to always be with us.
