ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

FEBRUARY 4TH, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

In any moment of decision

the best thing you can do is the right thing,

the next best thing is the wrong thing,

and the worst thing that you can do is nothing.

Theodore Roosevelt

TODAY'S ACTION

Do your best. There is no better achieved than that.

TODAY'S QUOTE

When we are alone we want to be with others and when we are with others we want to be alone. After all, human beings are like that.

Gertrude Stein

HAPPY SATURDAY !

I’m going to try to breeze through the house blessing this morning as the ‘Newlyweds’ are supposed to be taking me to lunch. The weather man has been predicting 4-5 inches of snow today. Not really a good day to go anywhere. I guess we’ll be having ‘wintry’ weather for a few more days too !

Our ‘SUNSHINE BABES’ will be leaving on their cruise this weekend. I know they are excited and happy to be having a vacation. It’s too bad we can’t all go with them…

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS...SPOILED CATS DAY !

Yes, the most popular pets world wide are dogs! But, don't tell the cats!. People who own these little balls of fur know how independent and royal they really are. Of course, they were the favorite pets of the pharaohs. I think they remember this!

TODAY'S TRIVIA

Today is Homemade Soup Day

Today is USO Day. The United Service Organization, providing worldwide civilian support for U.S. servicemen and women and their families, was created on this date in 1941

1789: Electors unanimously chose George Washington to be the first president of the United States

1938: Walt Disney released the classic children’s movie "Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs

1957: Smith-Corona Manufacturing Inc. of New York began selling portable electric typewriters. The first machine was a ‘portable’ of 19 pounds! Soon, other manufacturers offered similar models, made of lighter-weight plastics, with a lot less of the sophisticated workings inside

1977: Dick Clark’s "American Bandstand" celebrated its 25th anniversary with a TV special

TODAY'S SMILE

Mrs. Lonefold's dishwasher quit working, so she called a repairman. He couldn't accommodate her with an evening appointment, and, since she had to go to work the next day, she told him: "I'll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I'll mail you the check.

By the way, don't worry about my Rottweiler. He won't bother you. But, whatever you do, do not under *any* circumstances talk to my parrot!"

When the repairman arrived at Mrs. Lonefold's apartment the next day, he discovered the biggest and meanest looking Rottweiler he had ever seen. But, just like she had said, the dog just lay there on the carpet, watching the repairman go about his business.

However, the whole time he was there, the parrot drove him nuts with incessant cursing, yelling, and name-calling. Finally the repairman couldn't contain himself any longer and yelled: "Shut up, you dumb bird!!"

To which the parrot replied:

GET HIM, Brutus!

Middle age is when it takes longer to rest than to get tired.

TODAY'S WORD

druthers \DRUH-therz noun,

dialect : free choice : preference

If Hugh had his druthers, he'd be riding in a mountain bike race this weekend instead of helping out at his dad's garage

Druther is an alteration of "would rather."

TODAY'S REFLECTION

Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies

Psalm 34:12

Surely we want to see good days. The psalmist gives two ways to bring this about:

Keep your tongue from evil. This means no gossiping. It also means avoiding telling dirty jokes and making fun of others. It also means no complaining.

Keep your lips from speaking lies Your tongue is a very powerful part of your body. Compassionate words can be soothing, but scornful words can be destructive

If you desire to be happy

And get rid of the misery of dread,

Just give up supposin’ the worst things

And look for the best things instead
