TODAY'S QUOTE

 A. D. -- the world writes the letters carelessly as it turns the page to record for the first time the new year; but in these letters is the "open secret" of the ages, for this, too, is a year of our Lord, an acceptable year, a year of grace.

CHRISTMAS SEASON

See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

 1 John 2

This wonderful and heartwarming scripture from I John is essentially a love letter from God, identifying us as His children. In a world that is longing for belonging, this is very good news As His children, we are in a very special relationship where as we grow closer to God, we become more like Him, and ultimately become a reflection of Him.

Today we celebrate the Most Holy Name of Jesus

The name of Jesus is a name of gladness, a name of hope and a name of love. A name of gladness, because if the remembrance of past transgressions afflicts us, this name comforts us, reminding us that the Son of God became man for this purpose, to make himself our Savior. A name of hope, because he that prays to the Eternal Father in the name of Jesus may hope for every grace he asks for: If you ask the Father anything in My name, He will give it you

To celebrate this feast we can begin by explaining to our children why we must show reverence for Our Lord by bowing our heads whenever we hear His name

After the triumph of Christianity, the Chi-Rho monogram spread into all countries and found manifold use. It no longer served as a mere abbreviation of the sacred Name, but stood as a symbol for Christ the King. Artists often surrounded it with a laurel wreath or a circle. This signified Christ's dominion over the world,

The familiar abbreviation IHS is a symbol of the Name Jesus which has retained its popularity down through the centuries. It owes its spread to St. Bernardine of Siena, who had it placed on his banner, surrounded with twelve rays of the sun and surmounted by a cross. It soon became the most popular monogram for the holy Name of Jesus

Ichthys. The early Church loved another monogram for our Savior's name, the widely-used ICHTHYS. Christ's full title was (in Greek): Iesous Christos Theou Yos Soter, Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. The initial letters of these five words form the Greek word ICHTHYS, which means fish. For this reason Christ is often pictured as a fish. Thus both the abbreviation and the picture became for the early Christians a secret symbol for the Redeemer

HAPPY TUESDAY

Back to work ! I hope you all had a nice long holiday weekend ! Here we are – a new week and a New Year. Now we’ll start making plans for all the things we want to accomplish this year. New Years day I listened to DD and DS#1 talk about some plans they have for camping ! Winter provides us for some nice quiet days to prepare for and make those plans.

It’ll be a quiet week here. I haven’t got anything extra going on after work this whole month, which is a good thing. It will be good to just come home and stay warm!

Have a great day ! Another wonderful one on the Way!

TODAY IS...SILLY PUTTY DAY

During WWII, General Electric tried to make a cheap substitute for rubber. A company engineer came up with a compound he called "nutty putty", but nobody know what to do with it. In 1949, Paul Hodgson saw some "nuttyputty" at a party. He bought some putty, separated it into half-ounce balls, and sold it inside colored plastic eggs as Silly Putty. When it outsold every other item in his toy store, he mass produced Silly Putty as the toy with one moving part

Psalm 33:3-4

We can't predict what events will occur this New Year, but we know that "the plans of the Lord stand firm forever." Our psalmist suggests that rather than singing, "Should Auld acquaintance be forgot," we should sing a brand new song, looking forward rather than back.

Every year and every generation the world changes . Go into the New Year with confidence!
