ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

AUGUST 2nd, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

If wrinkles must be written upon our brows, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit should not grow old.

James Abram Garfield

TODAY’S ACTION

TODAY’S QUOTE

Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.

Charles Swindoll

HAPPY THURSDAY !!

We have another hot summer day coming our way. I hope you all are keeping cool and if you have to be out working in the sun, remember the sunscreen and to drink plenty of water.

You know I work in the a/c so I’m just fine for sure. There is no rain in our forecast until Sunday so we’ll be having a few more of these lovely sunny days ahead.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…WATERMELON DAY

Watermelon is part of the pumpkin, squash and gourd family. They originated in Africa - then spread to Egypt, India and China. When the French colonized America, they found Indians growing them in the Mississippi Valley. How they got the seeds is a mystery! The good news... only 40 calories per cup and lots of vitamin C!

WATERMELON ICE CUBES

Watermelon is great for hot days because it's 92% water. Freeze the juice in ice cube trays - add to lemonade, fruit punch or iced tea. It's a fun flavoring for your drink.

1. Put pieces of watermelon (no seeds) in a blender. Mix until smooth. 2. Pour it through a strainer and then into an ice tray. 3. Freeze until set.

TODAY’S SMILE

A high school basketball team walked back to the team room at half time. They trailing badly and pretty discouraged.

When they were seated, the coach yelled, "Look at me and answer these questions as loudly as I ask them. "Did Michael Jordan ever quit?" The team yelled back, "No!"

The coach yelled, "Did Ken Griffey, Jr. ever quit?" The team yelled, "No!" "What about the Wright brothers. Did they quit?" "No!" yelled the team.

Then, the coach shouted. "And what about Elmer White. Did he ever quit?" There was awkward pause. Then, the team captain said, "Coach, we never heard of him!"

"Of course, you haven't!" yelled the coach. "He quit!"

Glenn Van Ekeren, adapted

Things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you're trudging seems all uphill . . .

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must but don't you quit.

Clinton Howell

TODAY’S WORD

 wayworn \WAY-worn\, adjective:

Wearied by traveling.

These beautiful and verdant recesses, running through and softening the rugged mountains, were cheering and refreshing to the wayworn travellers.

Washington Irving

TODAY’S REFLECTION

You brought me more happiness than a rich harvest of grain and grapes.

Psalm 4:7

The psalmist says that God's loving care has brought him more happiness than all of these. The psalmist is remembering all the times that God has worked in his life.

If you look back on your life, I'm sure that you remember times when you were discouraged and feeling helpless, and things happened in a way that brought you out of your troubles and into a feeling of satisfaction and happiness.

When you recognize these as signs of God's intervention on your part, you become more confident about the future. Life is filled with valleys of pain and sorrow. But when you trust God, he will fill you with the joy of the Lord, even in the most troublesome times. How blessed we are!
