ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JUNE 28TH, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

The only gift is a portion of thyself.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

TODAY’S ACTION

Lose yourself in something that you believe in.

TODAY’S QUOTE

You can catch more flies with a spoonful of honey than with a barrel full of vinegar.

St.Francis DeSales

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

The storms and rain by-passed us on Tuesday, It got a little warmer and humid. Today will probably be more of the same. Friday is supposed to be sunny, but there is a chance for rain most of the weekend.

We’ll hope that the chance goes somewhere that needs the rain.

I heard from DD and DSIL came through his surgery just fine. It will still be quite a while before he’ll be able to use that hand, but it is now on the mend. Thank the good Lord !

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…PAUL BUNYAN DAY

The legend of Paul Bunyan started with stories told by men in lumber camps. He was supposed to be a giant lumberjack who performed incredible feats - such as scooping out the Great Lakes to get water for his blue ox, Babe. The stories probably date back to the 1800's. They appeared in newspapers in the early 1900's and turned Paul into part of American folklore.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Monday Holiday Law Anniversary - The Monday Holiday law was signed in 1968.

Today is National Tapioca Day.

1894: Labor Day was established as a holiday for federal employees on the first Monday of September

2003: Eager to block telemarketing calls, 735,000 Americans registered the first day with the Federal Trade Commission's new National Do Not Call Registry

TODAY’S SMILE

Skip The Nursing Home!

With the average cost for a Nursing Home per day reaching $188.00, there is a better way when we get old and feeble. I have ascertained that I can get a nice room at the Holiday Inn for around $65.00...that leaves $123.00 a day for beer, food (room service), laundry, gratuities and special TV movies.

They have a swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge, washer, dryer, etc. Most have free toothpaste and razors, and all have free shampoo and soap.

Super 8 is somewhat more economical and they have a free breakfast, though you usually have to walk next door for lunch and dinner. There may be a bit of a wait to get that first floor room, but that's OK, it takes months to get into decent nursing homes.

There is the Senior Bus, the Handicap bus (if you fake a decent limp), a Church bus or van, cabs, and even a regular bus. For a change of lunch take the Airport Bus and eat at one of the fast food cafe's there.

The Inn has security, and if someone sees you drop over, they will call an ambulance.

What more can you ask for?

As a bonus, they all have AARP and other Senior discounts.

So: When I reach the Golden age, help me keep my grin. Just check my old rickety self into the nearest Holiday Inn!

TODAY’S WORD

Objurgate

Pronunciation: /OB-jur-gate/

v : to scold or chide vehemently; rebuke; berate

TODAY’S REFLECTION

But You are God, ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness...

Nehemiah 9:17b

What a beautiful description of our heavenly Father! And if we are made in his image, we can have those same qualities. But God has given us freedom of choice, so our attitude depends on us

We can all make simple living easier for each other with little unexpected acts of kindness
