TODAY IS...PIPE DREAMS DAY

During the 1800s, opium was heavily imported to Europe from Asia. This hallucinogenic drug wasn't illegal at that time and was widely used in some literary circles in England. The opium was smoked in a pipe and usually produced strange visions. The creative writers called these visions "pipe dreams".   Today the term is used for farfetched ideas that probably aren't going to happen

   TODAY'S SMILE

After hearing a speech on motivating employees, the owner of a large business posted signs that read “Do It Now” on the wall of every department at the office. It was impossible for the employees not to see them all through the day.

A friend dropped by a week later. Seeing the signs, he asked if the scheme really worked.

“Well,” says the business owner,
not exactly the way I thought it would. The cashier ran off with $20,000, the office manager eloped with my secretary and the rest of the employees asked for raises

TODAY'S REFLECTION

God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect.   II Samuel 22:33

Since our world operates with computers, we are at a standstill when the power is out. A friend turned on her computer in her home office and the monitor screen remained blank. She called a friend of hers who was an expert in computers. In a few minutes he arrived, bringing an extra monitor. He said, "Let's see if the monitor is turned on." With that, he pressed a button on the monitor and it immediately lit up. My friend was so embarrassed over the trouble she had caused, when it was just that the monitor wasn’t connected to the power.    By doing things on our own, we make decisions quickly, without connecting to God's wisdom. We can  plug into God's mighty power by:

  • Studying God's Word.

Memorize encouraging verses that can help in trying times.
    •Worshiping regularly with fellow believers.
    •Avoiding making quick decisions.
Take time to pray about them.
•Being patient and waiting upon the Lord
