ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JULY 26TH, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

Louisa May Alcott

TODAY’S ACTION

Encourage courage. Praise someone for going after his or her dreams.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Life is not about how fast you run, or how high you climb, but how well you bounce.

HAPPY THURSDAY!

We had a mixture of sunshine and rain yesterday. The rain was mostly in the morning so I was able to get out for a bit and watch those crazy hummingbirds at the feeders again in the evening. There are quite a few now and we’ve notice that even though the feeders have at least 4 openings , only one bird is allowed to drink from it at a time.

They chase each other around just like they were trying to keep it all for themselves. They also visit the Sweet Peas, the Coral Bells and the Rose of Sharon Blossoms, but seem to prefer the feeders.

After work I managed to get about a garbage bag of weeds cleared away. They are growing just fine in my flower beds whether anything else is or not.

Today is the dentist appointment. I supposed they will start with the cleaning I need and then work on to the fillings. I’m dreading all this of course.

Take good care all !

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…SUGAR CANE DAY

Sugar cane is a giant grass that grows in warm, moist climates and stores sugar in its stalk. This natural sugar is ground out of the cane as juice, boiled into syrup and spun into crystals. The end result is raw sugar that is a tan color and very coarse. Raw sugar is not used in food. It is shipped to another refinery to be washed and filtered to remove the color and any leftover plant material. It is then crystallized, dried and packaged to land at your nearest grocery store.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Feed the Country Ducks Day, a day to drive into the country and find a pond with ducks you can feed. Don’t forget insecticide for your shoes and socks to keep the chiggers away

On this day in 1775, a postal system was established by the 2nd Continental Congress of the United States. The first Postmaster General was the same gentleman who graces the U.S. $100 bill and who flew a kite with a key attached in a thunderstorm -- Benjamin Franklin. Mr. Franklin was paid $1,000 a year for his job as Postmaster General.

Today is National Coffee Milkshake Day

1788 - New York, the 11th state, entered the United States of America this day. New York City, one of the most famous cities in the world, was once the capital of the Empire State, but that ended in 1796. Albany, once called Fort Orange, has been the capital of the State ofNew York ever since. The beautiful rose is the official state flower with the colorful bluebird taking the honorable title of New York’s state bird.

1942 - Judy Garland joined Gene Kelly to record For Me and My Gal for Decca Records. The song is featured in the movie of the same name.

1968: Singer Jeannie C. Riley recorded "Harper Valley P.T.A." The Tom. T. Hall song skyrocketed to #1 and became the country music Single of the Year.

TODAY’S SMILE

Some years ago, near a seldom used trail in the Amargosa Desert in California, there stood a rundown hut. Nearby was a well, the only source of water for miles around. Attached to the pump was a tin baking powder can with a message inside, written in pencil on a sheet of brown wrapping paper.

This was the message . . .

This pump is all right as of June, 1932. I put a new sucker washer into it and it ought to last five years. But the washer dries out and the pump has got to be primed. Under the white rock I buried a bottle of water, out of the sun and cork end up. There's enough water in it to prime this pump but not if you drink some first. Pour in about 1/4 and let her soak to wet the leather. Then pour in the rest medium fast and pump for all your worth. You'll git water.

The well never has ran dry. Have faith. When you git watered up, fill the bottle and put it back like you found it for the next feller.

SIGNED: Desert Pete

P.S. Don't go drinking the water first! Prime the pump with it and you'll git all you can hold. And next time you pray, remember that God is like the pump. He has to be primed.

I've given my last dime away a dozen times to prime the pump of my prayers, and I've fed my last beans to a stranger while saying Amen. It never failed yet to git me an answer.

You got to git your heart fixed to give before you can be give to.

The story of Desert Pete was Track 1 on the 'A' side of the Kingston Trio's album "Sunny Side!" (Capitol Records T-1935, released 1963). The refrain went like this:

You've got to prime the pump,

You must have faith and believe.

You've got to give of yourself

Before you're worthy to receive.

Drink all the water you can hold,

Wash your face to your feet,

But leave the bottle full for others

-- Thank you kindly, Desert Pete.

TODAY’S WORD

riposte \rih-POST\, noun:

1. A quick thrust given after parrying an opponent's lunge in fencing. 2. A quick and effective reply by word or act.

intransitive verb: 1. To make a riposte.

When she told him how much she hated being called an old trout, he'd riposte: "The trout is the most beautiful of fish."

Angela Carter

Riposte derives from Italian risposta, "an answer," from rispondere, "to answer," from Latin respondere, "to promise in return, to answer," from re- + spondere, "to promise

TODAY’S REFLECTION

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

Hebrews 10:35-36

We often start a project with great enthusiasm. But when obstacles get in our path, we let worry and fear of failure keep us from pushing ahead and we quit. You can't go through life quitting everything.

If your project is worthy, you have to stick to it. Your confidence can be weakened, if you begin to make excuses or start blaming someone else for your project's setback When you trust the Lord and you know that your project would be approved by him, press on!

TODAY’S ADVICE FROM THE OLD FARMER’S ALMANAC

Fresh grass clippings make excellent garden mulch. (Don't bunch clippings too heavily around young plants, as the grass can burn tender stalks.)

58 DAYS UNTIL AUTUMN!

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your Heart

 Psalm 37:4

May there be a miracle in YOUR life today and may you have the EYES to SEE it!

I Love You All !!!

Be Blessed !!!
