ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JULY 22nd, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Gratitude is the sign of noble souls.

Aesop's Fables

TODAY’S ACTION

Be ready to find joy where and when it surfaces.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Go to your bosom: Knock there, and ask your heart what it doth know.

William Shakespeare

HAPPY SUNDAY!

Today is R and R day once more. I’ll be getting ready soon and going off to church as always First of all before all that happens, I can take the time to slowly wake up and even have a couple of those good cups of coffee this morning.

What a blessing that there is one morning of the week that there is no rushing around to do. There is of course plenty to do around here as the past few months have not allowed for much to be done at home…but it has waited this long and will wait just a bit longer too.

If I don’t have my R & R day there is just nothing that’s going to go right anyway.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…LION’S SHARE DAY

This popular expression comes from an an Aesop fable. A lion, a cow, a sheep and a goat form a hunting party. They kill a deer, and the lion divides it into four equal parts. He takes three of the parts (the lion's share) and lets the others divide one. Sounds like a pig to me!

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Parents Day, paying tribute to parents whose devotion to their children strengthens our society.

Today is National Penuche Day (Punuche is a fudgelike confection of Mexican brown sugar, cream or milk, and chopped nuts, sometimes called penuchi or panocha).

Today is National Blackfoot Daisy Day, honoring one of summer's heartiest wildflowers

1796 Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Gen Moses Cleaveland

1937 - Hal Kemp and his orchestra recorded the now-standard tune, Got a Date with an Angel, for Victor Records in Hollywood, California

1985 - Bruce Springsteen became the hottest ticket in the rock concert biz as 70,000 Cleveland fans lined up (in less than three hours) to grab tickets to see the ‘Boss’.

TODAY’S WORD

moot \MOOT\ adjective

1 a : open to question : debatable b : subjected to discussion : disputed

2 : deprived of practical significance : made abstract or purely academic

Since the team would have lost anyway, it's a moot point whether the umpire's call was right or not.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

Proverbs 25:11

Words are so powerful! We can heal or harm others by our words. How good it is when we can say just the words that are needed to comfort someone who is sorrowful, or encourage someone who is doubtful, or cheer someone on who is fearful.

Parents can make such a difference in their children's self-esteem. Unfortunately some parents only criticize, and if you were to ask them about it, they would say that they were trying to guide their children to do things the right way.

That is surely commendable, but if we don't add words of praise and encouragement, as the child attempts something, we are going to hamper our child's confidence

Lord, help me to love my neighbor enough to encourage rather than discourage, to help rather than hinder. Amen.
