TODAY’S QUOTE

Life is never easy for those who dream.

Robert James Waller

HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY!

It’s Friday the 13th too ! Usually this is a lucky day for me, at least I don’t remember anything bad ever happening on the 13th.

I’m off to see the tooth repair people this morning. These are different people from my regular dentist. I figured there was no sense going back there as they hadn’t been able to fix it right before. We’ll see how the new guys do.

After the dentist, I’ll spend the day with my sisters working on things at Dad’s house. This is the main reason I took the day off. I feel bad that I’ve not been able to help anymore than I have. In some respects I’m probably more of a hindrance than a help, so they were probably blessed not to have had me around all week.

The big news of the day is that DD and her hubby are going to be buying Dad’s house. I know they are thrilled to be able to get it as they have always loved the place. It’s nice too that it is remaining in the family.

That’s the news from home for now.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…BISON LOVERS DAY

The bison (buffalo) is the largest land mammal in North America. Before settlers moved across the continent, their herd size was about 30 million animals that provided meat, clothes, shoes, houses, and tools for Native Americans. Unregulated killing reduced their number to about 1,500 by the late 1800s. Legal protection and refuge preserves have helped restore the population to over 350,000 animals today

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Childhood Memories Day, a day to try to remember whatever happened to your Hot Wheels, your stuffed animals, your baseball cards, your apple core collection..... T

oday is Friday the 13th, believed by some to be an unlucky day in English, German, Polish, and Portuguese-speaking cultures. The 13th is unlucky in Greece or Spain, but only if it falls on Tuesday. In Russia the unlucky day is Monday the 13th. Though many stories trace the reason for the alleged bad luck back to as early as biblical times, apparently all such stories were concocted within the past century. The first documented mention of a "Friday the 13th" is generally listed as occurring in the early 1900s.

Today is National French Fries Day.

1832 - U.S. Indian agent and explorer Henry Schoolcraft stumbled upon the source of the Mississippi River. Its 2,552-mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico begins at Lake Itasca, Minnesota.

1930: The first World Cup Soccer competition was held in Montevideo, Uruguay.

1959 - Dedicated to the One I Love, by The Shirelles, was released. The tune went to number 83 on the Top 100 chart of "Billboard" magazine. The song was re-released in 1961 and made it to number three on the charts.

TODAY’S SMILE

A rose bush blooms in Joan Bertsch’s yard at the corner of Harris and Henderson in Athens, Georgia. Joan hangs a sign on a pole in front of her house that reads: "Cut a rose and give it to someone you love." Under the sign lies a pair of scissors.

Neighbors, students, husbands, wives - anyone who passes by - can cut flowers from the bush.

The roses used to be just for Joan. But seven years ago, a student from the local university rang the doorbell. "Could I cut a rose off 'the bush?" he asked. "I want to give it to my girlfriend."

"Of course!" Joan replied. She ran to get a pair of scissors.

Later she painted the sign. Doesn't she mind the rose bush being snipped bare? "Heavens, no," Joan says. "They'll grow back. Its like love, which never stops renewing itself"

TODAY’S REFLECTION

At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, 'Come, for everything is now ready.' But they all alike began to make excuses.

 Luke 14:17-18a

Jesus told the story of people who made excuses to put off going to a joyful event. Through this parable, Jesus was inviting the people to come to the kingdom of God. And I think there is another important lesson to be learned.

Too many times we put off pleasant things -- "Maybe next year we’ll take a vacation" -- "I'm saving the good dishes and silverware for a special occasion."

Erma Bombeck said it well: "Don't forget to stop and smell the roses today! Take time to tell a loved one how much you love them, do something nice for yourself, and stop to give God thanks for all of it."
