ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JULY 10TH, 2008

TODAY'S THOUGHT

What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.

Hugh Mulligan

TODAY’S ACTION

Be careful of your thoughts: They may become words at any moment

TODAY’S QUOTE

There is a certain relief in change, even though it be from bad to worse! As I have often found in travelling in a stagecoach, that it is often a comfort to shift one's position, and be bruised in a new place.

Washington Irving

HAPPY THURSDAY !!

Hurray ! I made it over the hump of this long work week and now only today and tomorrow remain I don’t have much to do as usual for the next two days so they will be long ones for sure.

It seems that even though our men are back to work, my work load has not increased and with my #1 boss retired I don’t even have many of the things to do that I used to do for him. #2 boss does a lot of his own work and doesn’t pass much my way. # 1 boss was not computer literate and that makes a big difference. I guess I should feel lucky in that respect.

I had a real treat yesterday morning as I listened to DS#5 on one of our local radio stations. He did caricatures for them and then they interviewed him and gave his caricature business a good recommendation. I don’t know how many listeners they have but it could be his work will be on the increase after that nice interview. It’s nice to have a celebrity in the family.

We are supposed to have some sunny days coming our way through most of the weekend. I do hope the weather report does not change. We had quite enough rain at the camper last weekend. Maybe the grass will grow and the mud will dry up.

After work this evening I’m supposed to go to Bible Study so I won’t be doing much at home, but I think I got what was needed done last night.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. GOD BLESS YOU !

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TO REMEMBER…

I am in the hands of God, and in God’s time all things will be made well.

A PRAYER FOR PEACE

Our Father, up in heaven, hear this fervent prayer

May the people of all nations be united in thy care.

For earth's peace and man's salvation can come only by

Thy grace And not through bombs and missiles and our quest for outer space.

For until all men recognize that "The Battle is the Lord's"

And peace on earth cannot be won with strategy and swords.

We will go on vainly fighting, as we have in ages past

Finding only emptyvictories and a peace that cannot last.

But we've grown so rich and mighty and so arrogantly strong,

We no longer ask in humbleness "God, show us where we're wrong"

We have come to trust completely in the power of man-made things,

Unmindful of God's mighty power and that He Is "King of Kings"

We have turned our eyes away from Him to go our selfish way,

And money, power and pleasure are the gods we serve today.

And the good green earth God gave us to peacefully enjoy,

Through greed and fear and hatred we are seeking to destroy.

Oh, Father, up in heaven, stir and wake our sleeping souls,

Renew our faith and lift us up and give us higher goals.

And grant us heavenly guidance as war threatens us again

For, more than guided missiles, all the world needs guided men.

TODAY IS…SMILE POWER DAY

Just in case you've ever doubted the power of smiling... It takes twice as many muscles to frown as it does to smile. Smiling is the most recognized form of beauty, friendship, acceptance and goodwill. A smile can lower the blood pressure of everyone who sees it. And smiling can even lengthen your life. That's a lot of payback for something that's so easy to do - and free

TODAY’S TRIVIA

LADY GODIVA DAY - Commemorating her legendary nude horse ride in protest of excess taxes.

1890 - Wyoming, the state with the smallest population entered the Union this day. The 44th state was named after an Algonquin Indian word meaning ‘large prairie place’. Appropriately, the Indian paintbrush that covers much of the large prairie is the state flower and the meadowlark, frequently seen circling the prairie land, is the state bird. Another Indian term, Cheyenne, is also the name of the state capital. Wyoming is called the Equality State because it is the first state to have granted women the right to vote (1869

1900 - One of the most famous trademarks in the world, ‘His Master’s Voice’, was registered with the U.S. Patent Office. The logo of the Victor Talking Machine Company, and later, RCA Victor, shows the dog, Nipper, looking into the horn of a gramophone machine

1913 - It’s summer in the northern hemisphere and while you are baking at the beach or lake, keep this factoid in mind: The highest temperature ever recorded in the continental United States was 134 degrees which melted thermometers this day in Death Valley, California

1929 - The U.S. government began issuing paper money in the small size we currently carry

1962 - The Telstar communications satellite was successfully launched from Cape Canaveral, FL. Telstar would usher in a new age of communication via telephone and TV, with voice and picture transmission from Europe to America and back. Signals were picked up by a 38-ton antenna in Andover, Maine.

TODAY’S SMILE

An older couple was asking for a room with a king, queen or double bed. The clerk apologized and said that the only rooms available had twin beds.

Disappointed, the man remarked, "I don't know. We've been sharing the same bed for 44 years." "Could you possibly put them close together?" the wife asked.

Several people nearby smiled, and someone commented, "How romantic." Then the woman finished her request with, "Because if he snores, I want him close enough to be able to punch him."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

With the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

2 Peter 3:8

We can be optimistic about the future because God will replace our world with a new one. In that new heaven and new earth we will experience blessed fellowship with our Creator for eternity (Rev. 21:1-4).

Even now, Jesus is preparing a place for those who love Him (John 14:1-3), a place where “there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying” (Rev. 21:4). Jesus is preparing a place for us and preparing us for that place http://www.rbc.org
