JUNE 20TH, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Benjamin Franklin

TODAY’S ACTION

TODAY’S QUOTE

An unread Bible is like food uneaten, a love letter never read, a buried sword, a road map unstudied, gold never mined.

Jerry Vines

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

OVER THE HUMP DAY!

I had a great time with my dulcimer buddies last evening. It was so good to get together with them for a few SMILES.

For well over 25 years now we have enjoyed each others company and our dulcimers. It is a gift to be sure to have such good friends and I’m very thankful for them and for the many others that I have the privilege of calling a friend too.

My family and friends have helped to make me the person I am. Without their love, and encouragement, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Just in case you all don’t know it, you are ALL very special to me!

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…PLAIN YOGURT DAY

Yogurt is an old, old food that's been around for centuries, but it didn't become popular in the U.S. until the 1980s. People now eat it for breakfast, lunch, snacks - or even as a frozen dessert. All yogurt is an excellent source of calcium, riboflavin (B2) and protein. It can also be low in calories and fat - just read the label.

CUCUMBER YOGURT SALAD

1 cup plain yogurt

2 large cucumbers

Fresh mint (to taste)

Optional Seasonings:

1 Tablespoon lemon juice

2 teaspoons chopped garlic

Salt and pepper

1. Peel cucumbers and cut in half lengthwise. Scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Slice thinly.

2. Stir up the yogurt and spoon it into a mixing bowl. Add some chopped mint plus any other seasonings desired. Mix well. 3. Stir in the sliced cucumbers last.

Cover the bowl with saran wrap or foil. Chill for at least an hour before serving.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

It’s National Vanilla Milkshake Day, sometimes called Ice Cream Soda Day.

Today is West Virginia Day. It became the 35th U.S. state on this date in 1863. Charleston is the capital of the Mountain State which boasts of having the most rugged terrain of any state east of the Mississippi. Throughout the forested hills of West Virginia, you’ll also find many cardinals (the state bird) and multitudes of the state flower, the big rhododendron.

1782 - The Great Seal of the United States was adopted by Congress. William Barton designed the seal which consists of an eagle, an olive branch and 13 arrows -- one for each of the original 13 colonies

1887: On Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, Buffalo Bill Cody staged a Royal Command Performance of his famous Wild West Show and four European kings boarded the original Deadwood stagecoach driven by Cody.

1948 - Toast of the Town premiered on CBS-TV. New York entertainment columnist and critic Ed Sullivan was the host. It started his TV career that would span 23 years on a weekly basis.

1973: "American Bandstand" celebrated its 20th anniversary with a 90-minute television special featuring Little Richard, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Cheech and Chong, Three Dog Night and, of course, Dick Clark.

TODAY’S SMILE

It was the first time I had attended a shower for both the bride- and groom-to-be. Lacy and Arthur took turns opening the practical gifts: towels, cookware, and the like.

Unfortunately one guest hadn't been told it was to be a joint shower, so when Arthur opened a box containing lingerie meant for Lacy, the embarrassed woman exclaimed, "I didn't know Arthur was going to be here!"

But Arthur jumped up, ran over to the lady and enveloped her in an enthusiastic hug. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" he exclaimed. "This is exactly what we needed!"

You get married not to be happy but to make each other happy.

One more…

When I go to a local discount store to get oil and filters for my car, I buy my wife a bouquet of flowers on display near the checkout counter. During one trip, some women in line behind me were oohing and aahing about a husband getting flowers for his wife. "How often do you do that?" one asked.

Before I could answer, the cashier, more than familiar with my routine, said, "Every three months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first."

And just because I have to laugh every time I get gas

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you… My soul will be satisfied with the richest of foods.

Psalm 63:3, 5

When it comes to love: Be careful. Until love is stirred, let God’s love be enough for you. There are seasons when God allows us to feel the frailty of human love so we’ll appreciate the strength of his love.

Didn’t he do this with David? Saul turned on him. Michal, his wife, betrayed him. Jonathan and Samuel were David’s friends, but they couldn’t follow him into the wilderness. Betrayal and circumstances left David alone.

Alone with God. And, as David discovered, God was enough.
