ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JUNE 7TH, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

To live a little better,

Always be forgiving.

Add a little sunshine

To the world in which we're living.

Helen Steiner Rice

TODAY’S ACTION

Look for an opportunity to make a positive difference.

TODAY’S QUOTE

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities.

HAPPY THURSDAY!

Today DS#4 and family will be traveling up to Ohio! They along and DS#1 and his family will be going to our nearby amusement park for a 3 day weekend trip. Friday evening I hope to go with DS#5 and his wife up to see them all after work.

It will be a short visit, but it seems ages since I’ve seen them all and I do miss getting together with my family.

Saturday and Sunday will be spent with my Dad as usual. The weeks seem to be flying by and one day seems to blend with the next.

I’ll be praying for all the travelers and for DS#6 as he may finally get his MRI on the sprained/broken (?) ankle today.

I truly don’t know what is going on with my e-mail. I always send this newsletter to myself just to make sure it gets out, and again yesterday I saw that it didn’t arrive in my mail. Hopefully whatever the problem is will straighten up soon. And hopefully you are receiving my daily e-mail. It really does go out every day. If I do have to miss, I’ll let you know ahead of time.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…ACCORDIAN LOVERS DAY

In 1829, two men patented portable instruments based on the same principle - free reeds activated by a keyboard and a set of bellows. Sir Charles Wheatstone of Middlesex, England, called his the concertina. Cyrill Demian in Vienna, Austria, named his the accordian. The instrument came to the U.S. in the mid-1830s. Also know as a squeeze box or a hand harmonica, it was the favorite instrument for both Confederate and Union soldiers during the Civil War.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Betamax Day, marking Sony’s introduction of the first videocassette recorder on this date in 1975. It sold for $995 and eventually disappeared as consumers preferred VHS-format VCRs, introduced later

Today is Plymouth Day, the day the first Plymouth rolled off the assembly line in 1928.

It’s National Chocolate Ice Cream Day

Today is Boone Day in Kentucky. On this day in 1769, Daniel Boone began exploring what would become the Bluegrass state.

1913: During a revival at Pokagon, Michigan, Ohio-born Methodist evangelist George Bennard introduced a new song he had composed entitled "The Old Rugged Cross."

1955: Quizmaster Hal March introduced the "isolation booth" to TV's $64,000 Question. Contestants were locked inside the sound-proof glass booth for the final series of questions that led to the grand prize.

1972: The musical "Grease" opened on Broadway. The '50s style musical lasted through April 13, 1980 for 3,388 performances.

 TODAY’S SMILE

An artist was asked to put on canvas what he considered to be the picture best symbolizing a decaying and dying church. After several months, he returned and reported that he had finished the task.

The hour arrived finally when the painting was to be unveiled. Several people had already given their description of what they thought the church would look like. Some had said it would be a rundown building in great need of repair and paint. Weeds would be growing in the church yard, and there would be some broken window panes.

Everyone in the group seemed to have the same picture in mind. However, when the cloth was removed, a hush fell over the group. Everyone was stunned. Before their eyes was an absolutely beautiful church building. The grounds were well kept and the exterior of the building was in excellent condition.

After a few minutes, one person stepped forward and said to the artist, “I thought we asked you to paint a dying church?” The artist smiled and invited everyone to step closer to the painting.

He pointed through the windows to the empty pews and to the collection plate on the table. There was nothing in the plate but cobwebs.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Luke 12:34

A church and a person who is living and growing in Jesus will be giving generously to His work.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

But commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead the people across and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.

Deuteronomy 3:28

God spoke these words to Moses, who had led the Children of Israel out of slavery. They were at the edge of the Promised Land and God had chosen Joshua to lead them into the land. But note that God instructed Moses to encourage Joshua. You can imagine that Joshua was uneasy about such responsibility. God knew that he needed encouragement to do such a mighty task

Perhaps we should ask ourselves whether anyone was uplifted by words we said to them today. Often we are quick to correct someone, and if we can help them, correction is good. But as Johann Goethe wrote, "Encouragement after correction is as the sun after a shower."
