ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

APRIL 4TH, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Prayer is not asking for what you think you want, but asking to be changed in ways you can't imagine.

Kathleen Norris

TODAY’S ACTION

Concentrate on your attitude and your expression. If you wear a smile you're bound to appear happier and you might just find your are happier.

TODAY’S QUOTE

The most valuable of all talents is that of never using two words when one will do.

Thomas Jefferson

HAPPY WEDNESDAY

Mid week and ‘Over the Hump’ we go. Only today and tomorrow of my work week left.

Friday is a day off from work at work anyway. It will be work at home day. Wow do we ever need it here.

Our weather man seems to be right on track. We had a record breaking 80 degree day yesterday. By tonight it will be down in the 30’s.

The snowbelt east of us could get 1-4 inches of that lovely white stuff. We may see a little, but not much.

I want to thank all of you that have prayed with me. You all are always included in my prayers every day. God Bless You !

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…LIBRARY BOOK DAY

Lending libraries have been part of culture down through the ages. But, do you know the name of the longest book ever published? It's "The Yongle Dadian." - a 10,000 volume encyclopedia written by 5,000 scholars over a period of 5 years during the Ming Dynasty in China. Somehow, I don't think too many people have checked that out!

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Cordon Bleu Day.

Today is Vitamin-C Day, marking this date in 1932 when C.C. King first isolated the vitamin at the University of Pittsburgh.

1960: On the same day Elvis Presley recorded "Are You Lonesome Tonight," RCA became the first record company to begin releasing pop singles simultaneously in both mono and stereo. Its first such release was Elvis' "Stuck on You."

1964: Twelve of the Billboard Hot 100 songs were by the Beatles, including the top five in order: "Can't Buy Me Love," "Twist and Shout," "She Loves You," "I Want to Hold Your Hand," and "Please Please Me.

1974: Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves tied Babe Ruth's home-run record by hitting his 714th homer in Cincinnati.

TODAY’S SMILE

Rosey and Nina were the best of friends and tried to do everything together. One day Rosey announced that she was going to start on a diet to lose a few extra pounds. "Good!" Nina exclaimed. "I'll start a diet too. We can be dieting buddies and help each other out.

And when I feel the urge to drive out and get a hamburger and fries, I'll call you first." "Great!" Rosey replied. "I'll ride with you to Burger King."

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. -Galatians 6:2

TODAY’S WORD

Clepsydra

\KLEP-suh-druh\ noun :

water clock

"Maybe we should reintroduce the ancient Greek practice of timing political speeches with clepsydra -- when the water is gone, the oration is over," suggested Alfie.

Peoples around the world invented clocks that used dripping water to mark the hours. In one kind of water clock, possibly invented by the Chaldeans, a vessel was filled with water that was allowed to escape through a hole. The vessel's inside was marked with graduated lines, and the time was read by measuring the level of the remaining water.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.

Luke 23:34

AS we draw near to Good Friday, I'm inclined to ask, "How do we really understand what happened on this special day?" When we look at the cross on that first Good Friday, we see the darkness around the cross.

This makes me think of all my sins and all the sins of the world. When we look at the cross, we see Jesus hanging there. We can ask him to forgive us and know we have the promise of eternal life.

In southern Maryland we enjoyed a few 80 degree days this week too but I was awaken early this morning with hail and heavy rain that sent the temps into the 40's.  The weather people said we could get a snow shower over the weekend.  They also said that the Easter Bunny better contact Santa and see if he can borrow his sleigh.  We can't do anything about the weather so we might as well have a laugh with it.  Happy Easter!!!
