ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

APRIL 11th, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.

Ernest Hemingway

TODAY’S ACTION

Celebrate the unique gifts that you bring to the world.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Each day comes bearing its own gifts. Untie the ribbons.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY

 OVER THE HUMP DAY !

The sun came out yesterday but it didn’t get very warm here. The wind was still very chilly. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be about 45 degrees with rain/wind/snow all possible. On Sunday when we are supposed to have our family get together for Easter the long range says it will be 36 degrees and have a possibility of rain/wind/ snow …

I am so longing for some warmth!

It seems I should be writing about something besides the weather here today, but it is what’s on my mind lately. That little touch of summer-like weather I had when we went to see the Sunshine Babes was just enough to make me want more…

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…SUBMARINE DAY

A submarine is a vessel designed for underwater operations that can still sail on the water's surface. Aristotle described a submersible used in 332 B.C. by the sailors of Alexander The Great. There is also evidence that a primitive sub was built around 200 B.C. in China. It was centuries later before the first real sub was built in 1620 by a Dutchman (of wood encased in leather). From these beginnings, we have progressed to the nuclear powered subs that sail today.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Barbershop Quartet Day. By the way, Sweet Adeline, the love song that became a favorite of barbershop quartets, was written in 1903 by Richard Gerard and Henry Armstrong; and there really was a sweet Adeline. She was opera singer Adelina Patti. Today, female barbershop quartets are called Sweet Adelines.

Today is National D.A.R.E. Day. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, developed in 1983 by the Los Angeles police and the LA Unified School District, helps school students avoid drugs, gangs, and violence. The program is now in almost 75 percent of America's schools.

Today is National Dandelion Day.

Today is National Cheese Fondue Day.

1929: Popeye made his first appearance as a supporting character in a comic strip in Hearst's New York newspapers.

1956: Elvis Presley held his first recording session with the Jordanaires, cutting the single track "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You."

1961 - Bob Dylan made his professional singing debut in Greenwich Village. He sang Blowin’ in the Wind.

TODAY’S SMILE

A famous singer had been contracted to sing in a Paris opera house, and ticket sales were booming. In fact, the night of the concert found the house packed and every ticket sold.

The feeling of anticipation and excitement was in the air as the house manager took the stage and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your enthusiastic support. I am afraid that due to illness, the man whom you've all come to hear will not be performing tonight. However, we have found a suitable substitute we hope will provide you with comparable entertainment."

The crowd groaned in disappointment. The environment turned from excitement to frustration. The stand-in performer gave the performance everything he had. When he had finished, there was nothing but an uncomfortable silence. No one applauded.

Suddenly, from the balcony, a little boy stood up and shouted, "Daddy, I think you are wonderful!" The crowd broke into thunderous applause.

We all need people in our Lives who are willing to stand up once in a while and say, "I think you are wonderful."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Ruth bore a son. . . . They called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Ruth 4:13,17

In the story of Ruth, God providentially set the stage for Boaz to rescue Ruth and Naomi from a life of poverty and the shame of not having an heir. Ruth could have been bitter about her status as a young widow, and Boaz might have thought that as a foreigner Ruth was not worth his time.

But they recognized the hand of God in their circumstances and converged with His plan to provide for her needs. The best part is that their story doesn’t end there. Salvation for the world was yet to come through their descendants—first David and then Jesus (Matt. 1:5-16).

We can compete with God’s plan and pursue our own agenda. Or we can converge with God’s plan and join the winning side. The choice is ours.

God’s plans always lead to victory.
