ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

APRIL 23RD, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

The way you overcome shyness is to become so wrapped up in something that you forget to be afraid.

Lady Bird Johnson

TODAY’S ACTION

Lose yourself in something that you believe in.

TODAY’S QUOTE

There are two lasting bequests we can give our children.

One is roots. The other is wings.

HAPPY MONDAY

It is back to work today! We are supposed to start off the day sunny but could have some thunder showers by evening. We got the fertilizer on Sunday afternoon so it will be good if it does rain.

We also mowed the grass for the first time this year. Now you know it will be every week for a while . No stopping…until maybe next October.

Sundays always go by fast. Nothing much but the yard work got done around my house. I’ll have to try to do a little each day this week. Next Sunday our little Pumpkin is baptized and they are having a party to celebrate that and our Angels birthday too ! I’m going to try and go after church, so that leaves no weekend time to do anything at home.

Our campers had a beautiful weekend to open up their summer homes. I did hear from them and I guess it was just gorgeous there. When Memorial Day weekend rolls around I’ll be able to go and visit them.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…GARLIC BREATH DAY

Garlic was worshipped by the ancient Egyptians, chewed by Greek Olympian atheletes and thought to drive vampires away. It's also good for keeping your heart healthy and warding off colds. With all of these benefits, who's going to worry about a little bad breath!

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Cherry Cheesecake Day.

Today is St. George's Day, honoring the patron saint of England. It's a holiday in Newfoundland. In Greek mythology George used his magic sword to kill a dragon ... just in the nick of time to save the king’s daughter from being sacrificed to the fire-breathing beast. As the story goes, this dragon had an insatiable appetite and it was only through his deep faith that George was able to accomplish this deed.

He was so revered by the Crusaders, that George was named Patron Saint of England in 1350 A.D. For many years, English soldiers wore the red cross of St. George on a white background as a badge; and it remains a part of the British Union flag.

Today is World Book and Copyright Day, sponsored by the United Nations.

1939: Singer Ray Peterson was born in Denton, Texas. He learned to play guitar while recovering from polio at a San Antonio hospital. His 1960 hit "Tell Laura I Love Her" made the Tear Jerker Hall of Fame.

TODAY’S SMILE

Man is fond of counting his troubles, but he does not count his joys. If he counted them up as he ought to, he would see that every lot has enough happiness provided for it. ~Fyodor Dostoevsky

There was once a very active boy who fell and broke his leg. He could run again in the spring, the doctors said, but only if he stayed in bed for an entire month and kept his leg still. At first the boy fought the rule, but he found that the more he thought about things he couldn't do, the more tired and angry he felt.

His parents put in a phone by his bed and friends called every day. He'd never much liked talking on the phone, but he felt better when they called. He wrote letters and got replies, and was surprised at what fun it was. Usually, he didn't have time to write letters.

He learned to play chess and began to enjoy reading. His days were slower and quieter than he'd been used to, but he learned a month really isn't a very long time. When spring came, he was running again, a little more joyfully than before.

When we can learn to accept our troubles, we find, like the boy, that they are just packages in which new growth and discoveries are wrapped.

TODAY’S WORD

The book is a collection of opuscula written by the author between his two major novels.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Then Jesus said to those who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

John 8:31-32

Believing in yourself, and those who are around you, is something that we have a hard time doing. We are consistently being told that we are not good enough, or at the very least, that there is someone better than we are.

Here's the thing though (and if this isn't the greatest equalizer out there, then I don't know what is), God believes in You! Say it! And don't just say it, believe it!

God believes in me.

God, help us to recognize Your belief in us, and then make that understanding our own. Lord, let it be so! Amen.
