ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

DECEMBER 19th, 2005

TODAY'S THOUGHT

The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet

James Oppenheim

TODAY'S ACTION

Never place too much importance on objects

TODAY'S QUOTE

We do not always know the reasons for what God does and doesn't do, but in the end we'll see that He was always right

Janette Oke

ADVENT

But now you will be speechless and unable to talk until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at their proper time.

In Zachariah's story we see how "unable to speak" we become when we do not believe God's words of promise to us. Let us trust that nothing is impossible with God

Be an encourager today.

Listen. Sometimes we just need to know that we are needed and loved by someone. Tell someone you love them. An unexpected blessing and miracle is just around the corner. Keep your eyes open

TODAY IS...CHOCOLATE PIZZA DAY

Pizza isn't just crust and sauce with your favorite toppings! You can make one for dessert and wow the family with your talents. This chocolate pizza is especially good for Christmas guests - and it just takes 15 minutes to make. Or take it to the office as a holiday surprise. But watch out! You might end up eating the whole thing yourself

1 (12oz) pkg real semi- sweet chocolate chips

1 lb white almond bark, divided

2 cups miniature marshmallows

1 cup crisp rice cereal

1 cup peanuts

1 (6oz) jar red maraschino cherries, drained, cut in half

2 Tbsp green maraschino cherries, drained and quartered

1/3 cup angel flake coconut

1 tsp oil

Melt chocolate chips with 14 oz almond bark in large pan over low heat. Stir in marshmallows, cereal and peanuts. Pour onto greased 12" pizza pan. Top with cherries, sprinkle with coconut. Melt remaining 2 oz almond bark with oil over low heat, stir till smooth. Drizzle over coconut. Chill until firm. Store at room temperature.

MEMO FROM SANTA

I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will no longer serve the States of Georgia, Florida, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, and Arkansas on Christmas Eve.

Due to the overwhelming current population of the earth, my contract was renegotiated by North American Fairies and Elves Local 209. As part of the new and better contract I also get longer breaks for milk and cookies so keep that in mind. However, I'm certain that your children will be in good hands with your local replacement, who happens to be my third cousin, Bubba Claus.

His side of the family is from the South Pole. He shares my goal of delivering toys to all the good boys and girls; however, there are a few differences between us.

Differences such as:

1. There is no danger of the Grinch stealing your presents from Bubba Claus. He has a gun rack on his sleigh and a bumper sticker that reads: These toys insured by Smith and Wesson.

2. Instead of milk and cookies, Bubba Claus prefers that children leave an RC cola and pork rinds [or a moon pie] on the fireplace. And Bubba doesn't smoke a pipe. He dips a little snuff though, so please have an empty spit can handy.

3. Bubba Claus' sleigh is pulled by floppy-eared, flyin' coon dogs instead of reindeer. I made the mistake of loaning him a couple of my reindeer one time, and Blitzen's head now overlooks Bubba's fireplace.

4. You won't hear, On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen.. when BubbaClaus arrives. Instead, you'll hear, On Earnhardt, on Andretti, on Elliott, and Petty.

5. Ho, Ho, Ho! has been replaced by Yee Haw! And you also are likely to hear Bubba's elves respond, I her'd dat!

6. As required by Southern highway laws, Bubba Claus' sleigh does have a Yosemite Sam safety triangle on the back with the words Back Off.

7. The usual Christmas movie classics such as Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life will not be shown in your negotiated viewing area. Instead, you'll see Boss Hogg Saves Christmas and Smokey and the Bandit IV featuring Burt Reynolds as Bubba Claus and dozens of state patrol cars crashing into each other. And Finally,

8. Bubba Claus doesn't wear a belt. If I were you, I'd make sure you, the wife, and the kids turn the other way when he bends over to put presents under the tree.

Sincerely Yours, S. Claus

TODAY'S REFLECTION

Love does not behave rudely, does not seek its own

I Corinthians 13:4

Your attitude can make all the difference in your treating people with respect or treating them rudely. When you get up in the morning and ask God to fill your heart with love, you're more likely to have a pleasant day, rather than a painful one that is filled with confrontations. For your attitude determines your actions

Don't get angry at the person who acts in ways that displease you. Give him a smile he lacks. Spread the sunshine of your Lord's limitless love.

Joni Eareckson Tada

Christmas is the season that we celebrate God's infinite love for us through Jesus Christ. Many people want to take Christ out of the holiday season. Instead of getting angry and saying rude things, we have the opportunity of exhibiting Christ's love by being unselfish and respectful to all.
