TODAY’S QUOTE
Christmas is a spirit that flows from one heart to another.
It is more precious than rubies and better than gold.

HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY !!
Correction on yesterday's post. I did mean I would have DS#5's help going to the post office Saturday, and maybe even DS#1's, but not #6's. I don't want to confuse anyone, but sometimes even I have a hard time with the numbers.
We may get some snow today, but hopefully not much. DD’s graduation ceremony is this evening. DS#1 and his family are coming up for it as long as the weather holds. They’ll be staying with DS#5 and his wife so I won’t have any one here, but tomorrow we are all supposed to meet for lunch before they head back home.
Then the following Saturday they will be making the trip again for our Family Christmas Feast. That will also be over at DS#5’s house. This is the first Christmas since I had children that there will be no Christmas festivities at my house, it does seem a bit strange. However I’m thankful for less work to do, so I won’t be complaining.
There have been and still will continue to be a whole lot of firsts in my life…
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !
TODAY’S PRAYERS
Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU !
25 WORDS
God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name
TO REMEMBER…
I am in the hands of God, and in God’s time all things will be made well.
TODAY IS…BUY A TREE DAY
The Pennyslvania Germans introduced the Christmas tree to America. The first mention of a decorated Christmas tree was a diary entry dated December 20, 1821 in Lancaster, Pennyslvania. Some people think the Christmas tree arrived with the Hessian soldiers paid to fight in the Revolutionary War, but if this is true, they kept the custom to themselves
TODAY’S TRIVIA
Today is Deck the Halls Day and Buy a Tree Day.
Today is National Bouillabaisse Day
(this is a rich soup made with fish and originating from the south of France)
1793: America’s first state road was authorized. It would be built from Frankfort, Kentucky, to Cincinnati.
1819 - The 22nd entry into the United States of America, Alabama, was officially admitted on this day. Deep in the “Heart of Dixie,” (one of the state’s nicknames), Alabama was first inhabited by the Creek Indians (Alabama means ‘tribal town’), then explored by the Spanish, settled by the French, and then controlled by the British. The region was ceded to the U.S. following the American Revolution. The Confederacy was founded in Alabama; the state flag still bears a resemblance to the Confederate Battle Flag. Alabama’s motto, Audemus jura nostra defendere – We Dare Defend Our Rights - has been taken very seriously throughout the state’s history, especially in the 1950s and 1960s , as it was the site of landmark civil rights actions. The state tree, pinus palustris or Southern longleaf pine; and the camellia, the state flower, are plentiful throughout the state, as is the state bird, the yellowhammer, which is also the state’s other nickname
1911 - After centuries of unsuccessful expeditions in search of the South Pole, Roald Amundsen and four companions made the discovery this day.
1944 - MGM released the movie National Velvet. Elizabeth Taylor starred as Velvet Brown
1959: Research released at Ohio State University revealed that the overwhelming favorite music of teens 14 to 18 years old was rock 'n' roll. It was also the least favorite of those aged 19 to 70.
1970 - George Harrison received a gold record for his single, My Sweet Lord.
1999: Charles M. Schulz announced he was retiring the "Peanuts" comic strip. The last original "Peanuts" comic strip would be published on February 13, 2000. Reruns are still appearing in hundreds of newspapers
TODAY’S SMILE
Little Jimmy's prayer:
Dear God, it must be hard for you to love everybody in the world, because I only have two brothers and I don't even do so good with them.
At the local cafe, my friend and I were having hamburgers with my grandson who is 7 years old. The discussion centered around why hamburgers were not called ground beef burgers because they were not made from ham.
Trying to draw the grandson into the conversation I asked him why he thought they were named "hamburgers" and he said simply, "That's because you pick them up with your hands." Now I wonder why I didn't think of that.
Being able to spell doesn't give you all the answers in life
TODAY’S WORD
cacophony \kuh-KAH-fuh-nee\, noun:
1. Harsh or discordant sound; dissonance.
2. The use of harsh or discordant sounds in literary composition. Cacophony comes from Greek kakophonia, from kakophonos, from kakos, "bad" + phone, "sound."
The adjective form is cacophonous. The opposite of cacophony is euphony.
TODAY’S REFLECTION
Good people do good things because of the good in their hearts.
Luke 6:45
The giving of fruitcake at the Christmas season has gotten to be a joke, since there are so many people who receive the gift of fruitcake, but they don't enjoy eating it. You are not giving a compliment, when you call someone a "fruitcake."
If you like fruitcake, it is easy to be grateful for the generosity of your friend. If not, you can still appreciate the good heart of the one who prepared it for you and give her or him your loving thanks.
We may not always appreciate the gift we received at Christmas, but we can always be thankful for the love of the friend who cared for us enough to be generous. You bring smiles to each face and joy to each heart when you show appreciation, whether or not the gift is to your liking.
