ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

OCTOBER 31ST. 2OO7

TODAY'S THOUGHT

No one has ever become poor by giving.

Anne Frank

TODAY’S ACTION

Grasp every opportunity to offer encouragement to others.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Work joyfully and peacefully, knowing that right thoughts and right efforts will inevitably bring about right results.

James Allen

HAPPY WEDNESDAY !!

And HAPPY ALL HALLOWS EVE!

I know a lot of us have gone out Trick or Treating or will with some little ones, or like me, will stand at the door and hand out treats tonight. Just be careful and watch out for those little ones on the streets.

Halloween has become so popular in our USA, but in other parts of the world it isn’t at all and in some parts it’s not very nice at all.

Remember that the real reason we have ‘All Hallows Eve’ is that tomorrow is All Saints Day – they are hallowed ones.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…HALLOWEEN DAY

Holidays and festivals have been celebrated at the end of October for thousands of years. During the 8th century, the Christian church made November 1st, "All Saints' Day". And the night before was called "All Hallows Eve". Over the years, this name became Halloween. The custom of Halloween was brought to America in the 1800's by European immigrants.

834: Established by Pope Gregory the 4th to honor the saints, the first All Hallows Eve was observed by all Christian churches.

1864: Nevada became the 36th U.S. state. The Spanish word means "snowy."

SOME HALLOWEEN TRIVA

The custom of trick-or-treating originated with a ninth-century European custom called souling. On November 2, All Souls Day, people would walk from village to village begging for "soul cakes," made out of square pieces of bread with currants. The more soul cakes the beggars would receive, the more prayers they would promise to say on behalf of the dead relatives of the donors.

The National Confectioners Association estimates that one billion nine hundred fifty-three million dollars is now spent on Halloween candy.

80% of children say their favorite Trick or Treat candy is either chocolate or gum.

TODAY’S SMILE

A Little Diet Fun:

I try to lose weight, but it keeps finding me.

My figure does nothing for me, so why should I do anything for it?

Diet is 'die' with a T.

The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and fat are really good friends.

Every time I think about exercise, I lie down until the thought goes away.

Thou shalt not weigh more than thy refrigerator.

I am not fat! I am big boned.

Mama taught me to clean my plate; she didn't teach me not to pile it high.

I'm thinking of all the starving children in China, like Mama said.

Forget health foods. I need all the preservatives I can get.

2. A boundary; a border; a limit.

 4. Either end of a railroad or other transportation line; also, the station house, town, or city at that place.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Have faith in God. Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Mark 11:22b—24

I have heard many an individual insinuate, if not out and out articulate, that our prayers need to be censored, as if God might not be able to understand what we are saying or how we are saying it.

If you have ever had this thought, let me reassure you that God can handle whatever emotional weight you need to unload, and can handle it however you may need to say it.

Throughout the pages of scripture we are given stories of people who were sad, upset, and even angry. God was able to handle it all. We come to God in humility recognizing that we are in the presence of the Creator of all.

In the same breath, God did not create us to pretend that we are something that we are not. God created us so that we might have the opportunity to live in relationship Him, and our neighbor.

In the midst of such relationships, there are days that are darker than others and cause us to wonder how we might be able to move forward. It is in that reality that we need to place our trust in God in such a way that we are able to offer up all that we have, all that we are.
