ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

OCTOBER 23rd. 2OO7

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Give plenty of what is given to you,

And listen to pity's call;

Don't think the little you give is great

And the much you get is small.

Phoebe Cary (1824-1871)

TODAY’S ACTION

If we learn how to forgive ourselves, to forgive others, and to live with Thanksgiving, we need not seek happiness. It will seek us.

TODAY’S QUOTE

The next best thing to solving a problem is finding some humor in it.

Frank Clark

HAPPY TUESDAY !!

This evening is the dulcimer get together that was postponed last week. I’m sure it will be fun, it always is

Yesterday was beautiful until it clouded up in the evening. Warm and in the 70’s. Today we’ll have some rain and cool back down to the normal 50’s by tomorrow.

Recently I tried a delicious apple I found out about. They are called Honeycrisp and are about the best eating apple I’ve ever had. “It’s a large, crunchy apple with a sweet zingy flavor,” If you get a chance to get some, try them out for sure. I found this website that tells about them, but the ones I had came from a local orchard . http://www.honeycrisp.com/

I’m not selling them, but if youenjoy apples you’ll probably like these It is really the little things in life that make me happy.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…CANDY CORN DAY

Candy Corn has been made since the 1880s and is one of the most popular holiday candies in history. Over 20 million pounds of candy corn is sold at Halloween. This is about 5 1/2 billion pieces - enough to circle the moon twice with plenty left over. And each piece only has 3.57 calories.

Here’s a Halloween version of trail mix you might like to try

10 c. popcorn

Peanut butter chips or Reese's Pieces

1 c. candy corn

M&M's, plain & peanut

Mix together. Serve.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Traditionally, the swallows leave Capistrano today

Today is National Boston Cream Pie Day.

Nicolas Appert was born on this day in 1752 at Chalons-Sur-Marne, France. He was destined to become a great chef andconfectioner -- and chemist and inventor. In 1809 the French government awarded Appert with twelve thousand francs for his contribution to the world. Nicolas Appert had, in his search to preserve food, invented a process of heating foods and sealing them in airtight containers. In 1812 he was bestowed with the title, Benefactor of Humanity. Just think, we still use his methods of food preservation today!

1941: Walt Disney released the movie Dumbo, about a young elephant with huge ears. Dumbo’s mother, Mrs. Jumbo, was a circus performer. His only friend, a mouse, and some crows helped him learn to fly

1958 - Russian poet and novelist Boris Pasternak was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He, however, was forced to refuse the honor because of negative Soviet reaction. Pasternak won the award for writing Dr. Zhivago.

And here’s some pumpkin trivia

74,354 - The number of acres of pumpkins harvested annually.

25 - The percentage of pumpkins grown in Illinois.

$171,661,000 - The value of all pumpkins harvested annually.

TODAY’S SMILE

Rich McCarrell explained to his young son how his secretary screened his phone calls at the office... He said, "If your Mom calls me and I'm busy, the secretary will tell her what I'm doing, and then Mom will decide if I should be interrupted or if she should leave a message."

Then he said to his son, "If you call me, you'll be put right through. I want you to know that you can call me anytime, because you're my son."

A few days later, the secretary put a call through to Rich from his son. He said hello and asked what he could do for him. He replied, "Nothing, Dad. I just wanted to make sure I could actually get through to you that easily."

One more…

Overheard this conversation between my 4-year-old niece and a boy from her preschool class, in the back seat of the car, on the way home from school:

Her: Do you know what a date is?

Him (slowly): ...Yeah...

Her: It's when you go somewhere with someone. (long silence)

Her (matter-of-factly): But this isn't a date. This is a carpool.

And that day we also celebrate the memory of his goodness in sending a star to guide the three wise men from the east to Bethlehem, that they might there worship, and present him with their oblation of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.-- Izaak Walton

TODAY’S REFLECTION

But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.

Galatians 3:25-26

In Jesus Christ we are all children of God. We are not losers at all. We are not unlovable at all. In fact, because we have met the Master, we are really quite beautiful.

Like a compass, the Bible always points you in the right direction.

Thanks for your tip on the honey crisp apples.  I bought some today and everyone enjoyed them, even my 2 yr. old grandson.

It is raining here in Southern Maryland.  I don't like driving in it but I won't complain because we so deseparately need the rain.  It will be turning very fall like tomorrow with temps falling into the low sixties instead of the upper 70's that we have been used to.

Take care.  Phyllis
