TODAY’S QUOTE

It's taken me all my life to understand that it is not necessary to understand everything.

HAPPY MONDAY !!

It is Labor Day in the USA and I’m back to my labors for sure. The painting will be done today and hopefully my bathroom sink and vanity will be installed also. Obviously we can’t both work in that little room at the same time so I’m hoping I get done before they get here. I will still have the trim on the mirror and little minor stuff, but the wood paneling will be done. The fun part will be adding all the accessories that will then go in there. I’ve got a bathmat, towels, shower curtain and a rug so far. More is coming in the mail and should be here the early part of the week. I can hardly wait to show you all the pictures.

Yesterday was totally relaxing and enjoyable. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect and of course the food was all just great. I’m so thankful I had the day away. I’ll have pictures in the GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE JOURAL if you want to take a look.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…LOST DAYS DAY

When England dropped the Julian Calendar to use the Gregorian Calendar, they had to lose 10 days to make the shift. These 10 days were September 3rd thru Septmeber 14th. People rioted in the streets. They thought the government stole 11 days of their lives and wanted them back. Not to worry... THEY'RE BACK

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Labor Day in the U.S. and Canada Always the first Monday in September, Labor Day was the idea of Peter J. Maguire, a labor union leader who in 1882 proposed a celebration honoring the American worker. At his suggestion, 10,000 workers held a parade in Union Square, New York, and followed it with political speeches, fireworks, and a picnic. The date chosen was simply "convenient," according to Maguire, because it was midway between the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving. Although the day’s focus on organized labor has diminished over the years, the legal holiday still marks the end of summer and the traditional time for children to return to school.

Today is Uncle Sam's birthday. Uncle Sam's image was first used on this day in 1813.

Today is National Welsh Rarebit Day

1833 - The first successful one-cent (or penny) newspaper was published. Benjamin H. Day issued the first copy of The New York Sun. By 1836, "The Sun" had the largest circulation in the country: 30,000.

1951 - What was to become the longest-running TV serial (or soap opera) was seen for the first time. Search for Tomorrow debuted on CBS-TV.

1954 - The Lone Ranger was heard on radio for the final time after 2,956 episodes spanning 21 years. Many of the original ABC radio shows later became available through syndication and can still be heard

1971 - The Lawrence Welk Show was seen for the last time on ABC-TV. ABC felt the show attracted “too old an audience ... not good for attracting advertisers.” Syndication allowed the champagne music to continue until 1982 as a weekly favorite for millions of people

1984 - Jerry Lewis smashed all previous records for charity fund-raising. A total of $32,074,566 was pledged on the annual Labor Day Telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association

TODAY’S SMILE

KIDS IN THE FIFTIES

Were you a kid in the Fifties or so ? Everybody makes fun of our childhood! Comedians joke. Grandkids snicker. Twenty-something's shudder and say "Eeeew!" But was our childhood really all that bad? Judge for yourself:

In 1953 The US population was less than 150 million... Yet you knew more people then, and knew them better... And that was good.

The average annual salary was under $3,000... Yet our parents could put some of it away for a rainy day and still live a decent life... And that was good.

A loaf of bread cost about 15 cents... But it was safe for a five-year-old to skate to the store and buy one... And that was good.

Prime-Time meant I Love Lucy, Ozzie and Harriet, Gunsmoke and Lassie... So nobody ever heard of ratings or filters... And that was good.

We didn't have air-conditioning... So the windows stayed up and half a dozen mothers ran outside when you fell off your bike... And that was good.

Your teacher was either Miss Matthews or Mrs. Logan or Mr. Adkins... But not Ms Becky or Mr.Dan... And that was good.

The only hazardous material you knew about... Was a patch of sandburrs around the light pole at the corner... And that was good.

You loved to climb into a fresh bed... Because sheets were dried on the clothesline... And that was good.

People generally lived in the same hometown with their relatives... So "child care" meant grandparents or aunts and uncles... And that was good.

Parents were respected and their rules were law.... Children did not talk back.... and that was good.

TV was in black-and-white... But all outdoors was in glorious color....And that was certainly good.

Your Dad knew how to adjust everybody's carburetor... And the Dad next door knew how to adjust all the TV knobs... And that was very good.

Your grandma grew snap beans in the back yard... And chickens behind the garage... And that was definitely good.

And just when you were about to do something really bad... Chances were you'd run into your Dad's high school coach... Or the nosy old lady from up the street... Or your little sister's piano teacher... Or somebody from Church... ALL of whom knew your parents' phone number... And YOUR first name... And even THAT was good!

TODAY’S WORD

solecism \SOL-uh-siz-uhm\, noun:

1. A nonstandard usage or grammatical construction; also, a minor blunder in speech. 2. A breach of good manners or etiquette. 3. Any inconsistency, mistake, or impropriety.

Solecism comes from Latin soloecismus, from Greek soloikizein, "to speak incorrectly," from soloikos, "speaking incorrectly," literally, "an inhabitant of Soloi," a city in ancient Cilicia where a dialect regarded as substandard was spoken.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

They cried to the LORD, and he answered them.

Psalm 99:6b

Most of us have prayed for something in particular at least once in our lives. For many of us, much more than once. We pray for the health of a loved one, a job or promotion that we have been working toward, strangers who have endured tragedies. Sometimes we pray for peace of mind, or forgiveness for our weaknesses.

Whatever the prayer, we are most certainly changed when those prayers are answered. Be it the answer we are expecting, or the answer that God's wisdom has chosen for us, it matters not; we are changed people When we take time out to talk often with the Father, we are also reminded that we are the Almighty's children, and that as His children we are expected to behave in a certain way.

We simply do not get to be the boss, and considering the sinfulness of our nature, isn't that a good thing to be reminded of? Make praying an integral part of your daily life. Like a chat with a friend, share your life with God. We see things so much clearer when we share them.

What you will find with this type of conversation is that it will lead you to an awareness that will enrich your life in awesome ways. God is the best friend you will ever have, and the benefits of a closer relationship with Him are so great. You will find more peace, you will love deeper, and you will be a better, and yes, changed, person.
