ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

APRIL 11th, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.

Nelson Henderson

TODAY'S ACTION

Place your effort where it belongs.

TODAY'S QUOTE

Never cut what you can untie.

Joseph Joubert

HAPPY TUESDAY!

WOW – We finally had a spring-like day! Today will be warmer yet. Of course we can also expect some showers to come our way by Wednesday, but the warmer temps are welcome!!!

This evening I’m going out for dinner with my ‘old camping buddy’. She called and asked me to join her for Taco Salad. I haven’t had that in ages and it sure sounds good.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS...SUBMARINE DAY

A submarine is a vessel designed for underwater operations that can still sail on the water's surface. Aristotle described a submersible used in 332 B.C. by the sailors of Alexander The Great. There is also evidence that a primitive sub was built around 200 B.C. in China. It was centuries later before the first real sub was built in 1620 by a Dutchman (of wood encased in leather). From these beginnings, we have progressed to the nuclear powered subs that sail today

TODAY'S TRIVIA

Today is Barbershop Quartet Day

Today is National Dandelion Day.

1868: U.S. Army Commander Ulysses S. Grant was stopped for speeding in his horse-drawn buggy. Three months later he was stopped again and fined $5.00

1929: Popeye made his first appearance as a supporting character in a comic strip in Hearst's New York newspapers

1956: Elvis Presley held his first recording session with the Jordanaires, cutting the single track "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You."

1965: For the second time, Jack Nicklaus won the Masters golf title

TODAY'S SMILE

One night a wife found her husband standing over their newborn baby's crib. Silently she watched him. As he stood looking down at the sleeping infant, she saw on his face a mixture of emotions: disbelief, doubt, delight, amazement, enchantment, skepticism. Touched by this unusual display and the deep emotions it aroused, with eyes glistening she slipped her arms around her husband. "A penny for your thoughts," she whispered in his ear. "It's amazing!" he replied. "I just can't see how anybody can make a crib like that for only $49.95!

One more…

A man’s wife chewed him out at the company picnic a while back. "Doesn't it embarrass you that people have seen you go up to the buffet table five times?” She asked. "Not a bit," He replied. I just tell them I'm filling up the plate for you

(I have a few sons that might have tried that one -- HA HA)

TODAY'S WORD

de·ri·sive

adjective : Mocking; jeering

TODAY'S REFLECTION

When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots

Matthew 27:35

The soldiers seemed heartless to be casting lots for Jesus' clothes, but he was just one of many prisoners and they thought nothing of it. One can’t imagine this happening today.

When you come down to it, life is a gamble. You make choices -- some are winning choices, some are losers. Others make decisions about your life over which you have no control. But if you, like Job, can say, "Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him" (Job 13:15) God can do wonderful things in your life.
