Celery is part of the parsley family. It was first grown as a medicinal plant, then (during the Middle Ages) as a flavoring. Finally, people started using it as a food - mainly for soups and salads. It's a good source of vitamin C and potassium, but here's the best part... It takes more calories to chew a piece of raw celery than you get from eating it
