ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

February 19th, 2008

TODAY'S THOUGHT

The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.

Voltaire

TODAY’S ACTION

Believe in the sun even when it's not shining

TODAY’S QUOTE Kindness is so sweet, when life is bitter.

HAPPY TUESDAY !!

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR PRINCE CHARMING !

May the dear Lord bless you today and always!

Our ‘Prince Charming’ is 4 years old today . As usual he is one of my grand’babes’ that lives too far away to be celebrating with him. I always mention my family’s birthdays here in this newsletter, but there are many that read this that aren’t mentioned and I do wish you blessings on your special day too !

As predicted, we had our snow yesterday. Not much accumulated on the ground, but very often it looked like one of those snow globes outside. Big white flakes were swirling around as it was very windy and cold I might add.

We have a 50 % chance of more of that white stuff today and it’ll be a blustery one they say. A good day to put on my ‘winter silks’ for sure!

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TO REMEMBER…

I am in the hands of God, and in God’s time all things will be made well.

TODAY IS…WATCH CASSABLANCA DAY

Casablanca is rated second (behind Citizen Kane) on the American Film Institute's Top 100 Greatest American Movies list. It was filmed in 59 days on the sound stages of Warner Bros. in 1942. The script was based on a play called "Everybody Goes to Rick's" that was never produced. With pages reaching the set as they were scheduled to be shot, nobody knew how the movie would end until the final days of production.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Nose-Blowing Day, a day for everyone with a stuffy nose to stop everything at nigh-noon and blow seriously for 10 seconds. Then take a deep breath

Today is National Chocolate Mint Day

Today is Straw Wrapper Appreciation Day, a day to remember how much fun it was to blow the wrapper off a straw

1878 - Thomas Alva Edison, famed inventor, patented a music player at his laboratory in Menlo Park, NJ. (This music device is the one we know as the phonograph)

1934: Comedian Bob Hope and Delores Reade were married in Erie, Pennsylvania. The marriage lasted 69 years until Hope's death at age 100 in 2003

1964: Simon & Garfunkel completed the original version of "Sounds of Silence" using only acoustic guitars

1985 - Cherry Coke was introduced by the Coca-Cola Company, not at company headquarters in Atlanta, but in New York City, instead. Many who grew up in the 1950s rushed to buy the canned and/or bottled taste of nostalgia; hoping it would taste the same as they remembered. Soda jerks at drug store fountains had been mixing it since the 1930s.

TODAY’S SMILE A KITTEN FROM HEAVEN

A Pastor had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed and offered warm milk. The kitty would not come down.

The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and drove away so that the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten. He did all this, checking his progress in the car frequently, then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten.

But as he moved a little further forward The tree went "boing!" and the kitten instantly sailed through the air - out of sight. The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So, he prayed, "Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping," and went on about his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. Now this woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, "Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?" She replied, "You won't believe this," and told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing.

Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, "Well, if the Lord gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it." She told the pastor, "I watched my child go out in the backyard, get on her knees, and ask Lord for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws spread out, and landed right on our tree in the backyard.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow

Isaiah 1:18

To the upright I will show the saving power of God

Psalm 50:23

The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted

Matthew 23: 11-12

Astonishing, isn’t it, when God says that all our terrible sins can be ‘invisibly mended’ overnight. No scars, no festering, no lingering shame, no unforgiven hurt: all gone! But we must acknowledge God’s rights and God’s sense of justice-help the oppressed, be just to the orphan, plead for the widow… The power and infinity of God add a whole dimension and give us room for freedom.

The humble are exalted, as the gospel says today, and the greatest among us must act as servants. Forgiveness comes not from tearing up of debts, but in the strong embrace of God’s love as we share in God’s work
