ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

FEBRUARY 7th, 2008

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.

Theodore Roosevelt

TODAY’S ACTION

Welcome the freshness of the morning and the opportunities that await you.

TODAY’S QUOTE

There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life, happiness, freedom, and peace of mind, are always attained by giving them to someone else.

Peyton Conway March

HAPPY THURSDAY !!

We are now back to our colder weather and probably will have a little snow. There was a lot of flooding in our area and the old DIY building that now houses a flea market had it’s roof collapse. Thankfully no one was in it at the time.

DD’s basement had a great flood too and I think she may be ready to build an ark. Thankfully they had some helpers in the way of one of my nieces and her hubby.

So even though we had some rough times of it in our area, there were some blessings too.

I got word from my morning BK gal that our South Side Mall will become a Burlington Coat Factory, so that is good news too. It’s amazing what I find out stopping at Burger King on the way to work.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Lord, we thank you for the blessings of this day Help us to remember those who have so much less than we do Help us to grow in love and care for each other We ask you to comfort and give strength and peace to those who are sick or struggling in any way.

Give us grateful hearts, our Father, for all thy mercies, and make us mindful of the needs of others; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TO REMEMBER… I am in the hands of God, and in God’s time all things will be made well.

TODAY IS…CHARLES DICKENS DAY

Charles Dickens is probably England's most popular author. He was born in Portsmouth, England on February 7, 1812, but spent most of his childhood in London where he based many of his novels. He started writing short stories at the age of 24 and continued to write until his death in 1890. His books related the bad conditions of the working classes and poor people in hopes of bringing about social change.

TODAY’S SMILE

KEEP YOUR FORK

 Author Unknown

There was a woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her things "in order," she contacted her pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes.

She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in. The woman also requested to be buried with her favorite Bible. Everything was in order and the pastor was preparing to leave when the woman suddenly remembered something very important to her.

"There's one more thing," she said excitedly. "What's that?" came the pastor's reply. "This is very important," the woman continued. "I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand."

The pastor stood looking at the woman, not knowing quite what to say. "That surprises you, doesn't it?" the woman asked. "Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request," said the pastor.

The woman went on to explain to the pastor.

At the funeral people were walking by the woman's casket and they saw the pretty dress she was wearing, her favorite Bible and the fork placed in her right hand.

Over and over, the pastor heard the question "What's with the fork?" And over and over he smiled. During his message, the pastor told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either.

He then told the people what the woman had said shortly before she died. "In all my years of attending church socials and potluck dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, ‘Keep your fork'. It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming . . . like velvety chocolate cake or deep dish apple pie.

Something wonderful, and with substance! So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder ‘What's with the fork?'. Then I want you to tell them: ‘Keep your fork . . . the best is yet to come.'

TODAY’S WORD

venial \VEE-nee-uhl\, adjective:

Capable of being forgiven; not heinous; excusable; pardonable Venial comes from Latin venia, "grace, indulgence, favor." It is not to be confused with venal, which means "capable of being bought; salable; open to bribery," and comes from Latin venum "sale." Remember that venial, like sin, has an i in it.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

II Corinthians 5:20

Whether we like it or not, others are observing the way we talk and the way we act. For some, we are the closest they will come to Christ, If they see a sorrowful, anxious or angry Christian, they will not be eager to learn more about Christ. But if they see the joy of the Lord in our smiles and enthusiasm, they'll want to know why we are so content.

Our daily lives can do more for spreading the Good News then many sermons. Make this Lenten season a time of spiritual renewal. You'll not only be more joyful, but you will be a better ambassador for Christ. http://www.ourprayer.org
