ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JUNE 6TH, 2008

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

Michael Jordan

TODAY’S ACTION

Learn to think of opportunity instead of security

TODAY’S QUOTE

A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.

Henry David Thoreau

HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY !!

It is the end of another work week for sure and today will be a long one. My boss is out for the day (golfing) so I will probably work 10 hours straight. There is little of anything to do in the office so I suppose it is cleaning day there. It’ll be late when I finally reach the camper as I’ll be leaving an hour later than usual.

It will also be a hot day in the 90’s . Thankfully our new unit at work is in place and the a/c is working once more. They had it finished about 1:00 yesterday afternoon. Believe me I was dripping before they got it done and yes, I dozed off for a few minutes in front of the computer too, but woke up before anyone found out.

I hope your weekend is a great one – I’ll see you all again on Monday morning !

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL !

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TO REMEMBER…

I am in the hands of God, and in God’s time all things will be made well.

TODAY IS…BIG RIVER DAY

Down through history, rivers determined where people lived, what they ate and what they drank. Poets have written about their mystery and magic, but their contribution to our planet is providing fresh water for all living things. They have also carved out the landscape we know today. Just think of the Colorado cutting out the Grand Canyon! And what's the largest river in the world? Yes, it's Cleopatra's favorite barge trip, the Nile!

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Yo-Yo Day, marking the birthdate of businessman Donald F. Duncan Sr., who manufactured the popular "Duncan Yo-Yo" in the early 1900s

Today is the anniversary of D-Day. In 1944, before dawn, 2,727 ships of every description converged on Normandy, carrying 2-million tons of war materials, including tanks, armored cars, trucks, jeeps and half-tracks and 155,000 fighting men the first day

Today is National Gardening Exercise Day

1882: Henry W. Seely of New York City patented the electric iron

1933: Richard Hollingshead opened the world’s first drive-in movie on 10 acres off Wilson Boulevard in Camden, New Jersey. The screen was 40 by 30 feet. Admission was 25 cents per car plus another quarter for each passenger.

1960: Roy Orbison released Only the Lonely

1844 - The first YMCA was founded in London by George Williams, a young draper’s assistant who had come to London to learn the drapery trade. At that time, wholesale drapery houses employed large numbers of young men, who were given room and board at their work places. They worked long hours and had poor living conditions. Williams sought permission to hold prayer meetings in his bedroom with other young men who, like himself, shared the Christian faith. Soon, the group expanded, drawing to it young men who were alone and lonely in the City of London.

1904 - The National Tuberculosis Association was formed in Atlantic City, NJ

TODAY’S SMILE

Ole and Clarence

Ole lived across River from Clarence who he didn't like at all. They all the time were yelling across the river at each other. Ole would yell to Clarence, "If I had a vay to cross dis river, I'd come over dere an beat you up good, yeah sure ya betcha by golly!"

This went on for years. Finally the state built a bridge across the river right there by their houses. Ole's wife, Lena, says, "Now is you chance, Ole, vhy don't you go over dere and beat up dat Clarence like you said you volud?" Ole says, "OK, by yimmy I tink I vill do yust dat"

Ole started for the bridge but he sees a sign on the bridge an he stops to read it, then he turns around and comes back home. Lena asked, "vhy did you come back?" Ole said, "Lena, I tink I change my mind 'bout beatin' up dat Clarence, you know, dey put a sign on da bridge dat says "Clarence is 13 ft. 6 in."

You know, he don't look near dat big vhen I yell at him from across da river"

TODAY’S WORD

1. Shaking; shivering; quivering; as, a tremulous motion of the hand or the lips; the tremulous leaf of the poplar.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

Galatians 6: 3-4

In today's scripture, Paul was urging his Christian friends to be honest with themselves and he promised them rejoicing, when they were able to do this. Jesus asked us to "Love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 19:19).

When we are honest with ourselves and strive to bring about the best in ourselves, we shall be better able to love others. http://www.ourprayer.org
