ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

APRIL 1ST, 2008

TODAY'S THOUGHT

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment

TODAY’S ACTION

Welcome the freshness of morning and the opportunities that await you the start of each new day

TODAY’S QUOTE

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

Abraham Lincoln

HAPPY TUESDAY !!

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!

March is roared out like a lion and April is roaring in too the weather man said! High winds and rain…oh my! I thought March might give us a break and go out like a lamb . It started out that way early yesterday. The Indians Baseball season did get to start off with out rain and temps in the high 50’s and they won their game too ! The wind and rain didn’t start til late evening.

Just as I thought, Monday was a busy day at work and it looks like another one coming my way today too. Hope you remember to beware of those April Fool jokes… Thankfully there is no one here to pull any one me. The critters don’t much care what day it is..they always leave surprises for me.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY’S PRAYERS

Life throws a lot at me, God. But you are with me every step of the way. Let my scarred life reveal your presence and love as I journey through life. Amen.

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. God Bless You!

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TO REMEMBER…

I am in the hands of God, and in God’s time all things will be made well.

TODAY IS…APRIL FOOL’S DAY

Why is there an April Fool's Day? In 16th century France, New Year's was celebrated from March 25 to April 1. King Charles IX adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1582 - and suddenly the new year began Jan 1. Many people refused to switch or simply forgot the new date. They were called "April Fish", and their celebrations turned into silly pranks. This "fooling" eventually became a holiday of it's own. It later became a custom in England - and the English brought it to the U.S.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is April Fool’s Day, a day to fool others, referred to as All Fool's Day in Poor Robin's Almanack in 1760. Poor Robin said, “The first of April, some do say, is set apart for All Fools’ Day, but why the people call it so, nor I nor they themselves do know.”

Today is National Hug Your Newsman Day, National Sourdough Bread Day, and Sorry Charlie Day

The name "April" may have been derived from Aphrodite, the ancient goddess of love. Or it may have come from the Latin verb asperire, meaning "to open," which could refer to spring blossoms.

Today is National Fun Day and the beginning of Laugh at Work Week.

April birthstone: diamond; April flower: sweet pea or daisy April is Alcohol Awareness Month, Animal Cruelty Prevention Month, Become a Yardnerd Month, Cancer Control Month, Celebrate Diversity Month, Child Abuse Prevention Month, Couple Appreciation Month, National Kite Month, Donate Life Month, Holy Humor Month, Jazz Appreciation Month, National Knuckles Down Month, Keep America Beautiful Month, National Lawn & Garden Month, National Smile Month, Tackle Your Clutter Month, and National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

1778: New Orleans businessman Oliver Pollock created the dollar symbol ($) by adding a vertical line through a capital "S."

1826 - Samuel Morey of Oxford, New Hampshire patented the internal combustion engine. It was pretty much the kind of engine we still use in cars and trucks, but not as complicated and needing less maintenance than those of today. That’s what we call progress

1960 - The first U.S. weather satellite was launched. TIROS I was put into orbit and soon meteorologists saw the first pictures of a midlatitude cyclone over the northeastern United States. Other, more powerful satellites launched since then provide pictures and more exact climatological data.

TODAY’S SMILE

People need people. Laurie was about three when one night she requested my aid in getting undressed. I was downstairs and she was upstairs, and . . . well. "You know how to undress yourself," I reminded. "Yes," she explained, "but sometimes people need people anyway, even if they do know how to do things by themselves."

William C. Schutz

April 1.

This is the day upon which we are reminded of what we are on the other three hundred and sixty-four.

Mark Twain

TODAY’S WORD

xenophobia \ZEN-uh-FOE-bee-uh\, noun:

Fear or hatred of strangers, people from other countries, or of anything that is strange or foreign

The word xenophobia was formed from the Greek elements xenos "guest, stranger, foreigner" + phobos, fear

TODAY’S REFLECTION

O Lord, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it.

Isaiah 26:11

Are you like the soldier who sings the old WW I song, "Oh, How I Hate to Get up in the Morning"? Or are you able to start your day with "Thank you, Lord, for the gift of a new day"?

… if you are able to get out of bed, no matter what the situation may be, see the beautiful sunrise and thank God for another day of life, your day starts on the plus side. We see the beauty and order of God's world, and know that we can trust God.
