ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

DECEMBER 21ST, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

We consider Christmas as the encounter,

the great encounter, the historical encounter,

the decisive encounter, between God and mankind.

He who has faith knows this truly; let him rejoice.

Pope Paul VI

TODAY’S ACTION

Radiate the glow of Christmastime

TODAY’S QUOTE

Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days, that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth, and transport the sailor and the traveler, thousands of miles away, back to his own fireside and his quiet home!

Charles Dickens

HAPPY THURSDAY

Finally !  The last day of the work week and the Christmas weekend is here. 5 days off from work to enjoy!  I heard from DS#4 last night and DS#2 and family will be starting home from his house in the morning.  By tomorrow evening they'll be here.  Long drive for them, but at least our weather is pretty decent.

Have a great day all !  Another wonder one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

TODAY IS…OUR FOREFATHERS DAY

On December 21st, 1620, Pilgrims aboard the "Mayflower" went ashore for the first time at present-day Plymouth, Massachusetts. I'll bet they were glad to set foot on solid ground again!

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Humbug Day, Today everyone is allowed 12 "bah humbugs."

Today is Look at the Bright Side Day.

Today is National French Fried Shrimp Day.

Today is World Peace Day.

Today is Forefathers Day, marking the Pilgrim landing at Plymouth Rock on this day in 1620.

1937: Walt Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" opened in Los Angeles, the first full-length animated feature film. Today is the day we say, “Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It’s off to work we go!”

1966: The Beach Boys received a gold record for the single, "Good Vibrations."

Question: In Christmas celebrations in the U.S. Southwest, streets are often decorated with farolitos. What are they?

Answer: Paper-bag lanterns, said to light the way for the Christ child

TODAY’S SMILE

'Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck...

How to live in a world that's politically correct?

His workers no longer would answer to "Elves".

"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.

And labor conditions at the north pole

Were alleged by the union to stifle the soul.

Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety,

Released to the wilds by the Humane Society.

And equal employment had made it quite clear

That Santa had better not use just reindeer.

So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid,

Were replaced with 4 pigs,

and you know that looked stupid!

The runners had been removed from his sleigh;

The ruts were termed dangerous by the E.P.A.

And people had started to call for the cops

When they heard sled noises on their roof-tops.

Second-hand smoke from his pipe

had his workers quite frightened.

 His fur trimmed red suit was called "Unenlightened."

And to show you the strangeness of life's ebbs and flows,

Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose

And had gone on Geraldo, in front of the nation,

 Demanding millions in over-due compensation.

So, half of the reindeer were gone; and his wife,

 Who suddenly said she'd enough of this life,

Joined a self-help group, packed, and left in a whiz,

Demanding from now on her title was Ms.

And as for the gifts, why, he'd ne'er had a notion

That making a choice could cause so much commotion.

Nothing of leather, nothing of fur,

Which meant nothing for him.

And nothing for her.

 Nothing that might be construed to pollute.

Nothing to aim. Nothing to shoot.

Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise.

 Nothing for just girls.

Or just for the boys.

Nothing that claimed to be gender specific.

Nothing that's warlike or non-pacific.

No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth.

Nothing that seemed to embellish a truth.

And fairy tales, while not yet forbidden,

 Were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden.

For they raised the hackles of those psychological

Who claimed the only good gift was one ecological.

 No baseball, no football...someone could get hurt;

 Besides, playing sports exposed kids to dirt.

 Dolls were said to be sexist, and should be passé;

And Nintendo would rot your entire brain away.

So Santa just stood there, disheveled, perplexed;

He just could not figure out what to do next.

He tried to be merry, tried to be gay,

 But you've got to be careful with that word today.

 His sack was quite empty, limp to the ground;

Nothing fully acceptable was to be found.

Something special was needed, a gift that he might

 Give to all without angering the left or the right.

A gift that would satisfy, with no indecision,

Each group of people, every religion;

Every ethnicity, every hue,

Everyone, everywhere...even you.

So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth...

"May you and your loved ones enjoy peace on earth."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Those who are generous are blessed, for they share their bread with the poor.

Proverbs 22:9

May we this Christmas realize that what we want and what we need aren't always the same thing. I hope we will allow Christ to help us change the direction we travel and the attitude that shapes our thoughts.

Let us play "Follow the Leader" with Christ. Those in the Christmas story did--Mary, Joseph, the Three Kings, and the Shepherds. Let's follow the savior, as we share his love.

TODAY’S ADVICE FROM THE OLD FARMER’S ALMANAC

December changeable and mild, the whole winter will remain a child.

IT’S WINTER !

The winter solstice is one of the two times each year that the Sun is at its farthest point from the equator and appears to stand still. It occurs today at 7:22 P.M. EST. The word solstice is derived from the Latin sol, or "Sun," and stitium, or "stoppage."

The Halcyon Days also occur around this time. According to ancient legend, a grieving wife named Alcyone, or Halcyon, threw herself into the sea upon discovering the drowned body of her beloved husband, Ceyx. The gods took pity on the pair, transforming them into kingfishers with the power to still the stormy seas for 14 days around the time of the winter solstice while they built their nest and hatched their young.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your Heart

 Psalm 37:4

I Love You All !!!

Be Blessed !!!
